The Power of Pinterest: How Tiffany Hayes Turns a Facebook Audience Into Pinterest Growth

This lesson is part of Unstoppable Dream
The full recording is free with an account. One email gets you in.

You’ve spent real hours building a Facebook page that actually works. People comment. Content gets shared. You’ve learned the rhythm of it, and now someone tells you there’s another platform you should be building too, from nothing, with no following and no sense of what performs. The honest reaction isn’t curiosity. It’s fatigue, and a small voice asking whether it’s worth doing all over again somewhere else.

Tiffany Hayes, half of the business she and her husband run as The Traveling Dog, opens her session at the Unstoppable Mastermind by naming that exact resistance before she ever gets to a single tactic. She’s not asking anyone to abandon what they’ve already built on Facebook. She’s showing how to point it at Pinterest instead.

Why does building on Pinterest feel like starting over?

As Tiffany Hayes puts it, the hesitation she hears most often comes down to one worry.

Because sometimes people think, well I’m doing so well on Facebook I don’t want to go and have to start this new thing and start building a fan base again.

That worry is reasonable on the surface and wrong underneath it, because the two platforms aren’t separate audiences you have to build twice. They’re connected in a way most people never bother to check. Pinterest lets people log in directly with a Facebook account, and Tiffany points to the number behind that: twelve million-plus users have already linked the two. That’s not a hypothetical bridge. It’s a bridge people are already walking across on their own, and the question is only whether your content is waiting for them when they get there. Once you see the two platforms as connected rather than competing, the dread of starting over lifts, and setting up a Pinterest board starts to feel like the easiest addition you’ll make to your business all year.

There’s a second number worth sitting with too. As Tiffany Hayes puts it, “80% of the users would rather follow a brand than a celebrity.” For anyone running a business page instead of a personal brand chasing fame, that’s the entire platform tilted in your favor before you’ve posted a single pin. Add in the fact that Pinterest had not yet rolled out advertising broadly at the time of this session, only testing it quietly in the U.S. market since that May, and the case for moving early gets stronger. Once ads show up in force, organic reach gets more expensive to earn. Getting established before that shift is the whole advantage of starting now instead of waiting for a more comfortable moment that costs more later.

What’s the actual move that puts your Pinterest content in front of your Facebook fans?

Here’s where the session stops being theory and turns into a checklist. Tiffany walks through several concrete ways to route the audience you already built on Facebook toward your growing Pinterest boards, rather than hoping people stumble onto your Pinterest account cold.

  • Post status updates on your Facebook page that call out a specific Pinterest board, with a question or hook rather than a flat link, the way she framed one post by asking her fans if they wanted to read her most popular posts instead of just dropping a URL.
  • Add a dedicated tab to your Facebook fan page, built through a service like Woobox, that displays your entire Pinterest board setup right inside Facebook, so visitors can browse your pins without ever leaving your page.
  • Build unique cover images for every board instead of relying on whatever photo Pinterest grabs by default, with the board’s name lettered right onto the image so a scrolling visitor knows what they’re looking at before they click.

That tab detail matters more than it sounds like. Facebook keeps people on Facebook by design, and a visitor who clicks through your Pinterest tab stays inside your fan page the entire time, right up until they click through to the original pin’s source. You get the benefit of Pinterest content without losing the Facebook attention you already paid to earn.

How do you write a pin description that actually gets shared?

A pin lives or dies on its description, and Tiffany treats that space as real copywriting territory, not an afterthought. She treats that field as space you should use for your branding, and it’s also where keywords belong so the pin surfaces in search. Her best-performing pin proves the point: a board post referencing the book The 4-Hour Work Week, framed with a warning and a promise of consequence rather than a plain summary, became her most repinned piece of content by a wide margin.

For anyone who freezes up trying to write dozens of these descriptions and titles, she recommends a free resource called Headline Hacks, a collection of more than three hundred fill-in-the-blank headline templates originally built for magazine writers, which doubles just as well for blog titles and pin copy. Pair that with a simple photo editor like PicMonkey to letter text onto images, and there’s no excuse left for a board full of plain, wordless pins on a platform where visual pins are what actually get repinned.

Is it worth paying attention to the business account and the promotion tools?

Tiffany is direct about one setup choice: open a business account rather than a personal one, because it turns on analytics that show your top pins, impressions, clicks, and the age, gender, and interests of the people repinning your content. That data tells you which board and which topic is actually resonating, instead of guessing.

On promotion, she’s honest about a tool called Viral Woot, where users trade credits, called seeds, earned by liking and sharing other people’s pins for the ability to get their own pins shared back. She doesn’t oversell it. Used with intention rather than spammed out to strangers, she says the payoff has been modest but real: “I’ve really been getting probably 15, 20 people just kind of adding onto the Pinterest account.” Not leads in the strict sense, she’s careful to say, but real interaction from real accounts, which is the seed every future lead grows from.

The throughline across every tactic in this session is the same one she opens with. Your Facebook audience already exists. Your job isn’t to build a second one from zero. It’s to walk the one you have across a bridge twelve million people have already found on their own, and hand them something worth repinning once they arrive.

So what we're going to do is we're going to bring Tiff up from the traveling dog and Tiff is going to really get you guys using Pinterest in a way that is beneficial to all. Let's go here Tiff. Let me get your slides babe. Sweet.

So I'm going to talk a little bit about Pinterest today and it's a nice sort of easy start today too because it's not like rocket science. So it's something I think that's going to start out after the late night you guys had last night. And I'm going to relate it because we are all into Facebook here and we get so much value out of Facebook and we work so much with Facebook and we're all becoming these little ninjas at Facebook. I'm going to talk a little bit more today about how Pinterest and how you can use your Facebook to really leverage your Pinterest account.

Because sometimes people think, well I'm doing so well on Facebook I don't want to go and have to start this new thing and start building a fan base again. So that's kind of going to be my focus today. I'm not talking much about how to open a Pinterest account because you guys all open a Facebook account and again it's not that difficult. I'm more than happy to answer any questions you have about that during the break or just send me, whatever, a message and I'm happy to do that.

So using Pinterest to expose your business. The polite and effective way. It's not really polite but I just thought that went with the picture. You can all laugh there.

That's like kind of part of the joke. So let's see how I use this. You laugh. Ha ha ha ha ha.

Hey guys it's Tiffany here from The Travelling Dog. You know it's like your video voice and then when you talk normally you don't talk like you do on your video. I was doing a video this morning and I'm like alright well that was good and I'm like why can't I use this voice in my videos? So why this too?

People, all people do is spread your content. So sort of like a virus. So you put it on there and someone's like oh I like this and then they share it and someone likes it. So we'll get into sort of what kind of stuff you should be putting on there but it's really nice because it really can go on to autopilot for you.

So again you put something there like Facebook and people can share it all over the place. Doesn't take much time, pins, whatever. 80% of the users would rather follow you. 80% of the users would rather follow a brand than a celebrity.

I don't really know what that means but I thought that was kind of a cool stat when I was looking up things. Probably relates a lot to here too because I think a lot of us don't watch the news. We don't follow a lot of celebrities. I don't know maybe we're all kind of celebrities so maybe we all follow celebrities but I just thought that was a bit of an interesting fact on there.

There's 12 million plus users have connected their Facebook accounts to their Pinterest accounts. Alright so we're going to get into that and that's a really powerful number. Using Facebook to leverage. People can share your pins on Facebook and Twitter.

Does anyone Twitter here? Tweet. Tweet. Tweet.

Tweet. Are leadership hip chats on? And they're going to start chit chatting. It is going to make us nervous.

Tweet, twat, twit, tweet. That's always great for recording. Talking about twitting and chatting. At least they know we're real.

I'm not going to say that much. swear in this presentation all right so obviously because of that statement I just made I don't use Twitter tweeter twatter so you can you can share stuff on there too and it has analytics and business accounts which is cool and it's free yay free not that we don't like to spend money but for you things are fine so shiny new things ads are coming this is huge all right so right now Pinterest there is no ads on it they are coming they've been sort of I think experimenting with it a bit in the US market but and it's been since May that's a long time so they should be coming soon I'm super stoked on that and you guys all should be because again the way that we're dealing all this Facebook marketing I don't know really what Pinterest is going to be about but it can't be that far off from that so if you guys are mastering all the stuff in Facebook and then suddenly Pinterest comes out with it you're gonna have such a head above everyone else and , I don't know how that whole monetary thing goes but I'm guessing when it might start it might be a little bit more reasonable too so if you guys are ahead of the game and you go in there and you can kind of swing everything over I think that's super brilliant they now have messages on there so it's easier to connect with people so it's kind of cool because you can when someone adds you you can now send a little message to them and say thanks for the ad so very similar to Facebook as well right and there's new analytics section so this is sort of the website you go to for that you must have a business account for this so there is a difference between personal and business I'll talk a little bit more about that but you must have a business account it'll show you your top pins impressions clicks most repin but it's really I don't know it's really kind of cool and colorful the way it comes up so we'll say this is literally out of all the pins you've done this is your top pin this is the one that's been most repin so repinning means when someone basically shares okay so your most shared thing on Facebook is your most repinned thing on Pinterest and then audience and it breaks it down to age gender interest what audience boards your pins are on so you can also see oh this person's board maybe whatever they've named it or category that's where my pin is so it allows you to see all the boards of your audience that have chosen to share your pin so again I think that's just kind of I'd like to collect data a lot and I'm I may not seem it I'm very observant and I'm always like oh yeah I remember names and I remember things that I see I remember boards and I'm like oh that's kind of neat that that was on that so maybe that's a subject or something that I can target all right so always keep that in mind if you have any questions feel free to kind of digging deeper deeper into things I think this is what I'm going to cover maybe I went over that so similar to Facebook fans the more you have the further your reach is all right these are all the similarities despite all the hype surrounding Pinterest Facebook's still the largest social media right it's always going to be so that's why we're going to show you a little bit how to leverage all those fans so we're not starting from scratch in Pinterest all right using status updates to highlight highlight different content on your Pinterest board so that's referring you to your Pinterest board so that's referring you to your Facebook board so that's referring you to your Facebook board so that's referring you to Facebook you can also see all those different links you can download to guys for free and then what we're going to do is I'm going to send you a message so it's really dipping down okay you like Facebook and and this is really what it's alla ançole that went a little bit thing for you right you know it's addingической so it's all a different kind of user experience to understanding your services and your knowledge now let's dive more right now I'm going to have to say that I know this is gonna be a really helpful tip I'm sorry do you know what they said I don't know if you 안녕 we're not sure if they've complied with the quelle and you're do you get these things now that's cool okay I'm going to tell you right about things that are only approximately speaking we're going to see other people who are alright with your Facebook feed okay so this was some of our dog related boards so training tips honeymoon stage of dog training so it shows the title it shows the subject of the description you've put in it shows the picture and then it says Tiffany pin something on Pinterest alright so people can click on that so that's what it will look like on your personal page every time you do something so you're not having to create that on Facebook when you go to your fan page you can't yet link those alright so there's probably reasoning for that but what you can do is you can get a little tab so you know how you guys have different tabs at the top that are for random other things you can get one I did mine from woobox there might be other like woobox woobox woobox there might be other apps that you guys know I don't know shout them out if you do but it's cool because then you have that on there so what sort of need about that if you're now looking at your fan page how there's the different sections on the left-hand side you'll see all of your Pinterest boards there or someone clicks on that Pinterest tab for that you've put up top your whole Pinterest set up goes right onto that Facebook all right and they can look through all of your Pinterest stuff without actually leaving your Facebook page and that's something that we know Facebook likes to keep people on Facebook right so until they have clicked to the original source of that pin they're going to actually stay on your Facebook account so that's kind of cool are you guys following me like is anyone like what's a pin what's a repin what's a woobox I think you go to woo box calm or google who box and it basically has all different tabs so there might be things I don't think Instagram is on there but there's other random like apps that you can put onto your fan page all right so there might be other ways you can do that I don't know if you can do it through Facebook but that was just something that I'd I'd found so a few ways to use Facebook to build your following so here we go so that's what the the Pinterest tab will look like right so that's up top so we've got your timeline about photos Pinterest and then more so whatever you guys want to know then more so whatever else I have under more and then when I click on it this is exactly what it looks like so that's my traveling dog so this is Bernie in my page let's not forget about Bernie hi Bernie can you wave the camera and say hi to Bernie so this shows all your boards right there all right so we've got maybe nine on there and I'll get into what I want to talk about that stuff sorry these are they're a little ugly so this is what the top of your Pinterest will look like so I have the traveling dog so I have our logo again our brand I have our name I have our website so once you enter the website it will walk you through steps that you have to verify I don't really want to talk about that today because it's kind of bland but you guys again are all smart you can figure that out and then this is the one we have to change this a little bit but this is the description of what our page is about so right here we have we focus on getting your dog related business out of the dog house follow our adventures learn dog training tips and make a dog place in your life.

part of your lifestyle so a lot of our Pinterest stuff is we have a few boards that are focusing on helping people in the dog related industry so I talked about that the other day about groomers and other dog trainers so we kind of have our Pinterest board focus towards that a little bit as I start to understand it that I'm going to shift it a little bit more to kind of what we're all selling here but this is nice for drawing in people on there because I find there are so many dog people on Pinterest so it sort of benefits us that way so you can post Pinterest links and updates on your Facebook page all right so this is the same thing I'm just going to go into these because that's in I'll go back so traveling dog shared a link all right so again instead of all everything automatically goes to your personal page so I'm talking about your fan page so what I've done here because this doesn't go on there I said want to read through our more popular blog posts so I sort of put a question there and something that might grab the audience's attention even though it goes to all of our blog posts I just put hey do you want to read our most popular ones because then someone's like oh wow yeah let's read the ones that are more popular and then it says follow our blog board here so you put in the Pinterest web and then as it shows things and it shows again the picture okay so that's the cover photo I'll talk a bit more about that blog post it has the website and then also the description there okay use status updates to highlight different content pin your boy blah blah that's kind of just what I covered so you need to take good advice and feedback.

of that description area and you're able to edit it if you go into edit pin and hit description use this space for your branding purposes right so branding branding we all know how important that is everyone's cover that today Rhonda's the branding queen right and has really helped us build our business that way and you can put keywords there too so one of our pins that have been like repinned the most the top one that we've had shared throughout is for our work week surprise surprise so it's on my blog post board the description is for our work week by Tim Ferriss warning exclamation exclamation one of two things could happen and both happen to us read this book with caution so I'm not giving away necessarily too much all right and then they there's a source so when they are to click on this picture what we've done is that goes to our blog page again so there it's taking them off of Pinterest but it's sending them to our blog all right where our blog is set up on a bit more of a website where they can use it for their blog and then they can use it for their blog and then they can also buy things because again we want to make money but we're giving them again the description this is very right this isn't boring it's not just about the book it's saying like caution oh no two things could happen what could happen well it changed our lives it brought us together right and there's it was it was all good stuff but I feel like this is nice and suspenseful okay okay make unique cover photos so Pinterest is very very visual so when you make a cover photo it's very very visual so when you make a cover photo it's very very visual so when you log on and you see you look at your news feed log on and you see you look at your news feed log on and you see you look at your news feed of Pinterest you're gonna have all of Pinterest you're gonna have all of Pinterest you're gonna have all the people that you follow and all their the people that you follow and all their the people that you follow and all their pictures and pins kind of all mixed onto pictures and pins kind of all mixed onto pictures and pins kind of all mixed onto one one board or one screen so it's very one one board or one screen so it's very one one board or one screen so it's very visual there's ones that you don't look visual there's ones that you don't look visual there's ones that you don't look out because it's just words right so you out because it's just words right so you want nice colorful photos.

What I did is I made a cover photo for all my blogs. So technically, I could change any of these to be my board cover photo. But what I did is I took and put titles on them. So they looked a little bit more professional, and people knew what they were getting into.

So instead of just having the title up here, I had it actually on the photo. So Traveling Dog TV, right? That sounds like we have our own TV station. But it's actually our YouTube channel, so Traveling Dog on YouTube.

So people click on that, and we have all of our YouTube videos that are right on there. That works very smoothly like it does on Facebook. The videos actually play right there, so it's really cool. And it's more exciting than just saying my videos.

Blog posts, well, that's still kind of dull. But Traveling Dog blog, right? It rhymes. People like that.

And then it's nice and colorful and whatnot. And you can see some of them underneath there. This one, we just started. So I just started.

I enlarged this one. But the title of this one is Who is Tiffany? And then how I went from where I was to living a life of adventure, travel, and freedom, all right? So this is actually my story.

So I was kind of putting this together the other day and just sort of added this in maybe a couple days ago. And this is also my Facebook profile picture right now. So it sort of ties everything in. They're going to know if they go to Facebook that they're going to see my profile picture.

They're going to know how to find me. But I'm sort of experimenting with this a little bit because it's my story. So that's the story that I use for some of my Facebook ads. So if I can put that on there and start pulling some people in or be ready for when that advertising starts to come in, then it's kind of exciting that way too.

I actually did. And I was really surprised because they used to have a cap. Our stories are quite long. I did put it all in there.

It doesn't look. Well, I tried two things. I put part of it and then I was going to put read more here and send it somewhere. Or I could put it all and put my lead capture page link at the bottom to send them there too.

But it did actually fit all of it. So I was surprised. What that might look like when someone has it on their board though is it might have my picture and then they might have what they call a long pin and it might go all the way down to their screen. So it might look too long to read.

So I think visually that I should have maybe the first paragraph, or so, that they would see on Facebook or something that gets them exciting because we're supposed to start our stories off exciting, not boring, right? To get people's attention. And then sort of swing it into read more here or find out how and then send them to my lead capture page. So that's sort of another funnel that is going to be more of a story funnel that I'm working on.

But yeah, I thought that was cool. So a few other boards we have just to give you guys ideas. So getting your business out of the doghouse. Bernie does some social media.

He does some social media stuff for businesses around town and things too from everything that he's learned from this. So it's been super awesome to see his courses. But this is our focus on when we help people in the dog industry. We do have people that contact us or Bernie and say, well, we don't have a dog business, but we have a small business.

And we're like, yeah, join. It's all the same, right? We just cater and have some more play on words to like wagging tails and stuff and whatnot. So this is very business oriented here.

And a lot of this eventually goes back to why we're all selling here and why we're all here. And then training tips. So again, the cover photos, right? So this is kind of what we use in some of our other presentations that we do for the people in the dog industry.

And then dog training tips for you and your dog because we're all about training the owners, not the dogs. We put you there first, just in case you're wondering. And here we have lots of e-books as well. So we've done e-books on like how to have a nice walk with your dog because a huge problem everyone has, I won't get too much into dog training, is their dog pulling them down the street.

Yeah. Right? So we have lots of free e-books if you guys have dogs and want help on your dog stuff, you can go there. But so some of those do track back to what we're selling here.

Some don't. Some go to our dog business. And then they sign up for dog classes because of what we're doing. So this is kind of mixed in for the two.

And that's sort of all I had. I have something else to show you to help you with some titles. Actually, I'll do that and then we can chat a little bit and let me know how I went through that. So I don't know if you guys have heard of this.

I'm going to put it into the files because I have a free link to this book. It's called Headline Hacks. Has anyone heard of this? No?

OK. Cool. It's a cool book. So he writes something about, he says, I've received a lot of complaint letters about the content of articles I've written, but no one's ever criticized me for failing to develop an original headline.

So the whole basis of this book is that basically, copyright, you get in a lot of trouble for going and copying exactly what someone's written or whatever, right, and passing it on. But headlines are copied all the time. So. What I found that was kind of cool with this was you could go and get, I don't know how many, there was, I think, over 300 and something headlines that you could use in here.

So technically, you're not going to run out of blog ideas. So if you're having a slow day and you're like, I don't know what to write about, you can go and pick something from there. It's also really, really good for Pinterest. So things like checklists, you could say, five ways to start off your morning working online.

That's not really a good example. But and then you have five things, right? Five ways I start my Monday. And then someone's like, oh, how do you start your Monday?

And you're like, well, I wake up slowly, I have a coffee, I turn on my computer, I send my kids to school, whatever it is that you guys are doing. So there's all different sections in here. And it basically gives you a whole bunch of blanks and you just plug in what it is that you want to do. So I find it very useful for finding some sort of snappy titles that have been used in magazines a lot, right?

So this is very much referring to that style, too, that are always using, you know, the 10 best styles. The styles to wear for the fall, or the 10 easiest ways to get your dog to stop peeing in the house, that kind of stuff. So whatever you're filtering in, and again, relating to what you guys are doing specifically. So this book was really cool.

And I have a free, whatever it's called, PDF thing that I can put in. And it has kind of all the. And then PicMonkey, you guys probably use all sorts of different stuff. That's what I use to put words on pictures.

It's just kind of fun. It's easy to use. Easy. Basic.

Not too much thinking. So I like PicMonkey. And then Viral Woot. I should have done more slides for that, but I didn't.

So this Viral Woot thing, I think there's pros and cons to it, all right? So we want to make sure that we're not spammy, and not just kind of going out and getting almost like free likes to Pinterest. But it also really has benefited my business one way. And I will show you how.

So basically, when you log on to. Viral Woot, you make a thing. And you can earn free seeds, they call it. I don't know why they call it seeds, because I don't know how that relates to Pinterest.

But if you go on and like someone else's picture that's registered to this little system, or you share someone else's pin that's of interest to you, you get like a seed or two. And then you can spend your seeds by putting your stuff out there for people to like. So it's a little bit. We like to have real people that are interested in what we're doing.

So I find that I don't really like the people that are just maybe selling socks or cat stuff, because we're dog people. Just kidding. I like cats too. But what was the coolest benefit of this Viral Woot?

I could log in, but I have no idea what my login is. Or you know what? I probably do. It's probably the same thing.

Let me just have a little look here. So the coolest part about this I like is that you can do the sharing. It's one of two passwords. It always is.

So this is what it looks like. So I only have two seeds left. But what's really cool here is you can promote your pins. And I like that because when you use them for free, you can put what ones we want out there.

And that's how we got so many shares on our Tim Ferriss and a few of our other ones that we found were more powerful posts. So we put that there. And then people would go into this category and share them. Really, they're just sharing them so that they get free seeds to do other stuff.

But we were actually getting. a bit more connection through the ones that we were sharing. So that was kind of the coolest feature I found of this. And it is somewhat free.

You can buy seeds if you want. But again, this isn't a huge thing that I say you should do. But there is some benefit to it. And I think it just kind of starts get you rolling and gets you excited because you're like, somebody shared my pin.

And since I've used this a bit and when I am active on Pinterest, I'm trying to get better about using it consistently, like everything that I should be doing. So what I like best about. But is when I've been consistent using this a little bit, I've really been getting probably 15, 20 people just kind of adding onto the Pinterest account. So those aren't necessarily leads.

But we are getting a lot of interaction on it. And again, if you can keep your Pinterest tight and you have maybe a personal one that has all your crafts and what kind of Pinterest was originated for, and then you have this business board, it's a little bit more exciting for that. All right. So that sort of sums it up.

Do you guys have questions about that? Yes. Vashon. I wanted to ask you, one of the personal ones that's available now, is that what you did?

Yes. So when you sign up for a new account, it'll ask you, do you want a business account or what's it for? So you can. Do you recommend that?

I do because it gives you the analytics. OK. Yeah. All right.

So I should end and go on the business side. Totally. And then you can put, like we do have categories where we have fun stuff to show people that we're real and not just there for business as well, or places that we want to travel. So it's again, very much in our niche, places we want to go.

Those are hugely shared because people like to travel and they like these colorful pictures of these canyons they've never seen. Right? But we always kind of tie our business in there or our link in there somewhere. So they're always kind of ending up back with us.

Anyone else? Yes. The question was, Zaya, you want me to repeat it? The question was, do you re-pin, on my business board, do I just put our business pins or do I re-pin other people's?

I will re-pin other people's. OK. All right. More for the dog stuff.

So if I find a cool dog training article that supports the style of training that we do, I will do that. There's a few online things that maybe say like, there's not much of what we're doing on there. It's getting there. You're starting to see more people kind of starting the whole online thing and getting a little bit messy with it.

But there's not many people doing what we're doing. So if I find a valuable article that just talks about more traveling or more of what our lifestyle is, I'll pin that to some things. But our strict business board is mainly our articles or things that link back to our blog or our, you know, Bernie's Facebook marketing little thing that he does and whatnot. Does that help?

You're welcome. Anyone else? Cool. All right.

Thank you for listening to me. I appreciate it. And oh, wait. And I just thank you.

Thank you, Rhonda. Thank you, everyone. It's been so much fun.

So what we're going to do is we're going to bring Tiff up from the Traveling Dog, and Tiff is going to really get you guys using Pinterest in a way that is beneficial to all. Let's go here, Tiff. Let me get your slides, babe. Sweet. So I'm going to talk a little bit about Pinterest today, and it's a nice sort of easy start today too because it's not like rocket science.

So it's something I think that's going to start out after the late night you guys had last night. And I'm going to relate it because we are all into Facebook here and we get so much value out of Facebook and we work so much with Facebook and we're all becoming these little ninjas at Facebook. I'm going to talk a little bit more today about how Pinterest, and how you can use your Facebook to really leverage your Pinterest account. Because sometimes people think, well, I'm doing so well on Facebook I don't want to go and have to start this new thing and start building a fan base again. So that's kind of going to be my focus today.

I'm not talking much about how to open a Pinterest account because you guys all open a Facebook account, and again it's not that difficult. I'm more than happy to answer any questions you have about that during the break, or just send me, whatever, a message and I'm happy to do that. So, using Pinterest to expose your business. The polite and effective way. It's not really polite, but I just thought that went with the picture.

You can all laugh there. That's like kind of part of the joke. So let's see how I use this. You laugh. Ha.

Hey guys, it's Tiffany here from the Traveling Dog. You know, it's like your video voice, and then when you talk normally you don't talk like you do on your video. I was doing a video this morning and I'm like, alright, well that was good, and I'm like, why can't I use this voice in my videos? So why this? People, all people do is spread your content.

So sort of like a virus. So you put it on there and someone's like, oh, I like this, and then they share it and someone likes it. So we'll get into sort of what kind of stuff you should be putting on there, but it's really nice because it really can go on to autopilot for you. So again, you put something there like Facebook and people can share it all over the place. Doesn't take much time, pins, whatever.

Eighty percent of the users would rather follow a brand than a celebrity. I don't really know what that means, but I thought that was kind of a cool stat when I was looking up things. Probably relates a lot to here too, because I think a lot of us don't watch the news. We don't follow a lot of celebrities.

I don't know, maybe we're all kind of celebrities so maybe we all follow celebrities, but I just thought that was a bit of an interesting fact on there. There's 12 million plus users have connected their Facebook accounts to their Pinterest accounts. Alright, so we're going to get into that, and that's a really powerful number. Using Facebook to leverage. People can share your pins on Facebook and Twitter.

Does anyone Twitter here? Tweet. Tweet. Are leadership hip chats on? And they're going to start chit-chatting.

It is going to make us nervous. Tweet, twat, twit, tweet. That's always great for recording. Talking about twitting and chatting. At least they know we're real.

I'm not going to say that much. I'm going to swear in this presentation, alright. So obviously, because of that statement I just made, I don't use Twitter, tweeter, twatter. So you can share stuff on there too, and it has analytics and business accounts, which is cool, and it's free. Yay, free. Not that we don't like to spend money, but for you things are free, so, shiny new things: ads are coming. This is huge, alright.

So right now Pinterest, there is no ads on it. They are coming. They've been sort of, I think, experimenting with it a bit in the US market, but it's been since May. That's a long time, so they should be coming soon. I'm super stoked on that and you guys all should be, because again the way that we're doing all this Facebook marketing, I don't know really what Pinterest is going to be about, but it can't be that far off from that. So if you guys are mastering all the stuff in Facebook and then suddenly Pinterest comes out with ads, you're going to have such a head above everyone else. And I don't know how that whole monetary thing goes, but I'm guessing when it might start it might be a little bit more reasonable too. So if you guys are ahead of the game and you go in there and you can kind of swing everything over, I think that's super brilliant.

They now have messages on there, so it's easier to connect with people. So it's kind of cool because when someone adds you, you can now send a little message to them and say thanks for the add. Very similar to Facebook as well, right? And there's a new analytics section. So this is sort of the website you go to for that. You must have a business account for this, so there is a difference between personal and business. I'll talk a little bit more about that, but you must have a business account. It'll show you your top pins, impressions, clicks, most repinned. But it's really, I don't know, it's really kind of cool and colorful the way it comes up.

So we'll say this is literally out of all the pins you've done, this is your top pin. This is the one that's been most repinned. Repinning means when someone basically shares. So your most shared thing on Facebook is your most repinned thing on Pinterest. And then audience, and it breaks it down to age, gender, interest, what audience boards your pins are on. So you can also see, oh, this person's board, maybe whatever they've named it or category, that's where my pin is. So it allows you to see all the boards of your audience that have chosen to share your pin. So again, I think that's just kind of, I'd like to collect data a lot, and I may not seem it, but I'm very observant, and I'm always like, oh yeah, I remember names and I remember things that I see, I remember boards, and I'm like, oh, that's kind of neat, that was on that. So maybe that's a subject or something that I can target.

Alright, so always keep that in mind if you have any questions, feel free to kind of dig deeper into things. I think this is what I'm going to cover, maybe I went over that. So, similar to Facebook fans: the more you have, the further your reach is. Alright, these are all the similarities. Despite all the hype surrounding Pinterest, Facebook's still the largest social media, right? It's always going to be, so that's why we're going to show you a little bit how to leverage all those fans, so we're not starting from scratch in Pinterest.

Alright, using status updates to highlight different content on your Pinterest board. So that's referring you to your Facebook board, so that's referring you to Facebook. You can also see all those different links, you can download those for free, and then what we're going to do is I'm going to send you a message. So it's really, okay, you like Facebook, and this is really what it's about, that went a little bit into a thing for you, right, so it's adding a different kind of user experience to understanding your services and your knowledge. Now let's dive more.

Right now I'm going to have to say that I know this is going to be a really helpful tip. I'm sorry, do you know what they said? I don't know. We're not sure if they've complied with it, but you get these things, now that's cool. Okay, I'm going to tell you right about things that are only approximately speaking. We're going to see other people who are alright with your Facebook feed.

Okay, so this was some of our dog-related boards, so, training tips, honeymoon stage of dog training. So it shows the title, it shows the subject of the description you've put in, it shows the picture, and then it says Tiffany pinned something on Pinterest. Alright, so people can click on that. So that's what it will look like on your personal page every time you do something. So you're not having to create that on Facebook. When you go to your fan page, you can't yet link those, alright, so there's probably reasoning for that. But what you can do is you can get a little tab, so you know how you guys have different tabs at the top that are for random other things, you can get one. I did mine from Woobox. There might be other apps like Woobox that you guys know, I don't know, shout them out if you do. But it's cool because then you have that on there.

So what's neat about that, if you're now looking at your fan page, how there's the different sections on the left-hand side, you'll see all of your Pinterest boards there. Or someone clicks on that Pinterest tab that you've put up top, your whole Pinterest setup goes right onto that Facebook, alright, and they can look through all of your Pinterest stuff without actually leaving your Facebook page. And that's something that we know Facebook likes, to keep people on Facebook, right, so until they have clicked to the original source of that pin, they're going to actually stay on your Facebook account. So that's kind of cool. Are you guys following me? Like, is anyone like, what's a pin, what's a repin, what's a Woobox? I think you go to woobox.com or google Woobox, and it basically has all different tabs. So there might be things, I don't think Instagram is on there, but there's other random apps that you can put onto your fan page. Alright, so there might be other ways you can do that, I don't know if you can do it through Facebook, but that was just something that I'd found.

So, a few ways to use Facebook to build your following. So here we go. So that's what the Pinterest tab will look like, right, so that's up top. So we've got your timeline, about, photos, Pinterest, and then more. So whatever you guys want to know, then more, so whatever else I have under more. And then when I click on it, this is exactly what it looks like, so that's my Traveling Dog. So this is Bernie on my page, let's not forget about Bernie, hi Bernie, can you wave to the camera and say hi. So this shows all your boards right there, alright, so we've got maybe nine on there, and I'll get into what I want to talk about with that stuff.

Sorry, these are a little ugly. So this is what the top of your Pinterest will look like. So I have the Traveling Dog, so I have our logo, again our brand, I have our name, I have our website. So once you enter the website it will walk you through steps that you have to verify. I don't really want to talk about that today because it's kind of bland, but you guys again are all smart, you can figure that out. And then this is the one, we have to change this a little bit, but this is the description of what our page is about. So right here we have, we focus on getting your dog-related business out of the dog house, follow our adventures, learn dog training tips, and make a dog part of your lifestyle.

So a lot of our Pinterest stuff is, we have a few boards that are focusing on helping people in the dog-related industry, so I talked about that the other day, about groomers and other dog trainers. So we kind of have our Pinterest board focused towards that a little bit, as I start to understand it, that I'm going to shift it a little bit more to kind of what we're all selling here. But this is nice for drawing in people on there because I find there are so many dog people on Pinterest, so it sort of benefits us that way.

So you can post Pinterest links and updates on your Facebook page. Alright, so this is the same thing, I'm just going to go into these because, I'll go back, so Traveling Dog shared a link, alright. So again, instead of everything automatically going to your personal page, I'm talking about your fan page, so what I've done here, because this doesn't go on there, I said, want to read through our more popular blog posts? So I sort of put a question there, something that might grab the audience's attention. Even though it goes to all of our blog posts, I just put, hey, do you want to read our most popular ones, because then someone's like, oh wow, yeah, let's read the ones that are more popular. And then it says, follow our blog board here. So you put in the Pinterest web, and then as it shows things, it shows again the picture, okay, so that's the cover photo. I'll talk a bit more about that. Blog post, it has the website, and then also the description there.

Okay, use status updates to highlight different content, pin your blog, that's kind of just what I covered. You need to take good advice and feedback on that description area, and you're able to edit it. If you go into edit pin and hit description, use this space for your branding purposes, right, so branding, we all know how important that is, everyone's covered that today, Rhonda's the branding queen, right, and has really helped us build our business that way. And you can put keywords there too.

So one of our pins that have been like repinned the most, the top one that we've had shared throughout, is for our workweek surprise, so it's on my blog post board. The description is, for our workweek by Tim Ferriss, warning, exclamation, one of two things could happen and both happened to us, read this book with caution. So I'm not giving away necessarily too much, alright. And then there's a source, so when they click on this picture, what we've done is that goes to our blog page again, so there, it's taking them off of Pinterest, but it's sending them to our blog, alright, where our blog is set up on a bit more of a website where they can use it for their blog, and then they can also buy things, because again we want to make money. But we're giving them, again, the description, this isn't boring, it's not just about the book, it's saying like, caution, oh no, two things could happen, well, it changed our lives, it brought us together, right. And it was all good stuff, but I feel like this is nice and suspenseful.

Okay, make unique cover photos. So Pinterest is very visual. When you log on and you look at your news feed of Pinterest, you're going to have all the people that you follow and all their pictures and pins kind of all mixed onto one board or one screen, so it's very visual. There's ones that you don't look at because it's just words, right, so you want nice colorful photos.

That works very smoothly, like it does on Facebook.

But the title of this one is, Who is Tiffany? And then how I went from where I was to living a life of adventure, travel, and freedom, alright? So this is actually my story. So I was kind of putting this together the other day and just sort of added this in maybe a couple days ago. And this is also my Facebook profile picture right now.

So it sort of ties everything in. They're going to know, if they go to Facebook, that they're going to see my profile picture. They're going to know how to find me. But I'm sort of experimenting with this a little bit because it's my story. So that's the story that I use for some of my Facebook ads.

So if I can put that on there and start pulling some people in, or be ready for when that advertising starts to come in, then it's kind of exciting that way too. I actually did, and I was really surprised because they used to have a cap. Our story is quite long. I did put it all in there.

It doesn't look. Well, I tried two things. I put part of it and then I was going to put "read more here" and send it somewhere. Or I could put it all and put my lead capture page link at the bottom to send them there too. But it did actually fit all of it.

So I was surprised. What that might look like when someone has it on their board, though, is it might have my picture and then they might have what they call a long pin, and it might go all the way down their screen. So it might look too long to read. So I think visually I should have maybe the first paragraph or so that they would see on Facebook, or something that gets them exciting, because we're supposed to start our stories off exciting, not boring, right, to get people's attention.

And then sort of swing it into "read more here" or "find out how," and then send them to my lead capture page. So that's sort of another funnel, that is going to be more of a story funnel that I'm working on. But yeah, I thought that was cool. So a few other boards we have, just to give you guys ideas. So, getting your business out of the doghouse.

Bernie does some social media stuff for businesses around town, and things too, from everything that he's learned from this. So it's been super awesome to see his courses. But this is our focus, when we help people in the dog industry. We do have people that contact us, or Bernie, and say, well, we don't have a dog business, but we have a small business.

And we're like, yeah, join, it's all the same, right? We just cater and have some more play on words, like wagging tails and stuff and whatnot. So this is very business-oriented here. And a lot of this eventually goes back to why we're all selling here and why we're all here.

And then training tips. So again, the cover photos, right? So this is kind of what we use in some of our other presentations that we do for the people in the dog industry. And then, dog training tips for you and your dog, because we're all about training the owners, not the dogs. We put you there first, just in case you're wondering.

And here we have lots of e-books as well. So we've done e-books on like how to have a nice walk with your dog, because a huge problem everyone has, I won't get too much into dog training, is their dog pulling them down the street. Yeah, right?

No? Okay, cool.

It's a cool book. So he writes something about, he says, "I've received a lot of complaint letters about the content of articles I've written, but no one's ever criticized me for failing to develop an original headline." So the whole basis of this book is that basically, copyright, you get in a lot of trouble for going and copying exactly what someone's written or whatever, right, and passing it on.

But then you have five things, right? Five ways I start my Monday. And then someone's like, oh, how do you start your Monday? And you're like, well, I wake up slowly, I have a coffee, I turn on my computer, I send my kids to school, whatever it is that you guys are doing.

So there's all different sections in here. And it basically gives you a whole bunch of blanks and you just plug in what it is that you want to do. So I find it very useful for finding some sort of snappy titles that have been used in magazines a lot, right? So this is very much referring to that style too, that are always using, you know, the 10 best styles.

So this Viral Woot thing, I think there's pros and cons to it, alright?

So we want to make sure that we're not spammy, and not just kind of going out and getting almost like free likes to Pinterest. But it also really has benefited my business one way, and I will show you how. So basically, when you log on to Viral Woot, you make a thing.

And you can earn free "seeds," they call it.

Just kidding, I like cats too. But what was the coolest benefit of this Viral Woot?

I could log in, but I have no idea what my login is. Or, you know what, I probably do. It's probably the same thing. Let me just have a little look here.

So the coolest part about this I like is that you can do the sharing. It's one of two passwords, it always is.

But we were actually getting a bit more connection through the ones that we were sharing. So that was kind of the coolest feature I found of this. And it is somewhat free.

You can buy seeds if you want. But again, this isn't a huge thing that I say you should do. But there is some benefit to it. And I think it just kind of starts to get you rolling and gets you excited, because you're like, somebody shared my pin. And since I've used this a bit, and when I am active on Pinterest, I'm trying to get better about using it consistently, like everything that I should be doing.

So what I like best about it is when I've been consistent using this a little bit, I've really been getting probably 15, 20 people just kind of adding onto the Pinterest account. So those aren't necessarily leads, but we are getting a lot of interaction on it. And again, if you can keep your Pinterest tight, and you have maybe a personal one that has all your crafts and what kind of Pinterest was originated for, and then you have this business board, it's a little bit more exciting for that.

Alright, so that sort of sums it up. Do you guys have questions about that? Yes, Vashon.

I wanted to ask you, one of the personal ones that's available now, is that what you did? Yes. So when you sign up for a new account, it'll ask you, do you want a business account or, what's it for? So you can. Do you recommend that?

I do, because it gives you the analytics. Okay. Yeah. Alright, so I should end and go on the business side.

Totally. And then you can put, like we do have categories where we have fun stuff to show people that we're real and not just there for business, as well, or places that we want to travel. So it's again, very much in our niche, places we want to go. Those are hugely shared because people like to travel and they like these colorful pictures of these canyons they've never seen. Right?

But we always kind of tie our business in there, or our link in there somewhere. So they're always kind of ending up back with us. Anyone else? Yes. The question was, Zaya, you want me to repeat it?

The question was, do you repin, on my business board, do I just put our business pins or do I repin other people's? I will repin other people's. Okay, alright. More for the dog stuff.

So if I find a cool dog training article that supports the style of training that we do, I will do that. There's a few online things that maybe say, there's not much of what we're doing on there. It's getting there. You're starting to see more people kind of starting the whole online thing and getting a little bit messy with it. But there's not many people doing what we're doing.

So if I find a valuable article that just talks about more traveling or more of what our lifestyle is, I'll pin that to some things. But our strict business board is mainly our articles, or things that link back to our blog, or our, you know, Bernie's Facebook marketing little thing that he does and whatnot. Does that help? You're welcome. Anyone else?

Cool, alright. Thank you for listening to me. I appreciate it. And, oh wait.

And I just, thank you. Thank you, Rhonda. Thank you, everyone. It's been so much fun.
