About David Wood and Empower Network

The domain was first registered in 2006. I bought empowernetwork.com from its previous owner in 2011, as the company was being born, and I have owned it every day since. Through the launch. Through the arenas. Through the collapse in 2017, and through nine years of silence afterward, when the smart move was to let the name die quietly and start over somewhere clean.

I didn’t let it die. This page tells you who I am, what this site is now, and why I came back to the one brand everyone told me to bury.

From a Van to a Founder

My name is David Wood. I joined the network marketing industry part-time in 2002 and failed for five straight years. Not struggled. Failed. I chased away most of my friends pitching them things they didn’t want, and after five years I had less to my name than when I started.

By 2009 I was living out of a 1996 Dodge Caravan in Hawaii with my wife. I showered at public beaches and ate canned beans. One night a police officer knocked on the window, shined a light in my face, and wrote me a ticket for sleeping in my own vehicle. I paid it with the last money I had.

Then I borrowed money from my mom and started publishing online. That one decision built everything that came after. I learned to write, to make videos, to show up every day whether anyone was reading or not. Within a couple of years, people who had watched me start from nothing were asking me how I had done it.

The answer never changed. I blogged.

The Rise and the Collapse

I launched Empower Network on October 31, 2011. Our first event was 37 people packed into an actual hotel room. Not a conference room. A hotel room, with people sitting along the floor. Eight months later, in June of 2012, 1,250 people filled a ballroom at the Omni in downtown Atlanta. In its biggest year the company did $64 million in sales, and it reached people in countries I have never set foot in.

Read those numbers as history, because that is all they are. They describe what one company did between 2011 and 2017, in an era with different tools and a different internet. They are not a forecast for you, they are not typical of anything, and nothing on this site promises you an income of any size. The formal version of that is on the income disclaimer, and it is worth two minutes of your time before you buy anything from me.

Then it collapsed. In 2017 the company shut down, fast, and a lot of people got hurt in the fall. I won’t compress that story into a tidy paragraph, and I won’t sand the edges off it either. I wrote the whole account, including the parts that don’t flatter me, and it lives here permanently: What happened to Empower Network.

I lost the company, my marriage, and for a while my direction. I live in the mountains of Costa Rica now, and I spent the years after the collapse rebuilding myself before I let myself rebuild anything else.

What Empower Network Is Today

Three things, plainly stated.

First, it’s a publishing platform. Blog-first, built on the belief that writing and publishing daily on a domain you control is still the most durable skill on the internet.

Second, it’s training. I teach what I actually did: how to publish, how to build an audience you own, and how to keep showing up long enough for the work to compound.

Third, it’s the restored course library. And this part comes with a promise I want in writing where everyone can see it: if you bought a course from the original Empower Network, you get it back. Free. You already paid for it once, and the company that took your money disappeared. Restoring that library is the first act of this relaunch, before the site asks anything of anyone.

What This Site Stands For

Own your audience. Rented reach disappears. Algorithms change, platforms fade, accounts get closed. I have owned this domain since 2011, fifteen years now, and that is the only reason you’re reading this page. Your list, your domain, your archive. Build on ground you hold the deed to.

Publish daily. Back in 2009 I studied what the top producers actually did, expecting to find a secret tactic. The pattern was never a tactic. It was three to five pieces of content a week, sustained for years. I’ve run a Monday night call since 2009 and haven’t missed one. Consistency compounds. Everything else is commentary.

Straight talk. No hype, no manufactured urgency, no income promises. If I can’t stand behind a claim with a straight face, it doesn’t get published here.

Who Owns This Site, and Why That Matters

I do. I own Empower Network, the platform, and the products in the library. When I recommend a course or a training on this site, I built it, and I profit when you buy it. I’m not a review site pretending to be neutral. I created the thing I think you should use, and I’d rather tell you that in plain English at the top of the page than let you discover it in the footer. You deserve to know exactly whose hand is on the pen.

Where to Go From Here

Three doors, in the order I would take them.

Start free. The Daily Shortcut is the 2016 daily broadcast, one short episode a day by email, and it costs nothing. It is the fastest way to find out whether the way I teach is any use to you.

Start publishing. The Blogging System puts your own blog on the restored network for $25 a month or $197 a year, with a 30-day refund and your list exportable any day you want it. The letter on that page tells you what it is and what it isn’t.

Start with the training. The course library is the restored curriculum, and the first lesson of every course is free to watch before you decide anything.

And if you bought from the original company, none of the above applies to you first: claim what you already paid for. That one is free and it always will be.

Thanks for reading. In Prosperity,

David Wood
