The Fear That Leaks Into Your Marketing Before You Say a Word

This lesson is part of Fight The Forces of Evil 2015
The full recording is free with an account. One email gets you in.

You’ve probably avoided live video for the same reason most people do. No retakes, no editing, no chance to fix the sentence that came out wrong. It feels exposed in a way a produced blog post or a polished slide deck never does. But that exposure is exactly why live, unscripted video pulls people in when a rehearsed pitch doesn’t, and the discomfort around it usually has less to do with the camera than with something underneath it that most builders never name out loud.

Why does fear leak through your marketing before you say a word?

There’s a specific reason so many people avoid promoting what they’re building, and it isn’t laziness or lack of belief in the product. It’s that they don’t actually understand what a prospect is going to experience once they click through, and that uncertainty shows up whether they mean it to or not.

You cannot effectively market and promote something to someone. When you have no idea what they’re going to experience or see. It makes you internally nervous and afraid.

That nervousness doesn’t stay hidden. It comes through in your tone, your pacing, your energy while you’re talking, whether you’re doing a live broadcast, a Pinterest strategy, or a plain sales conversation. You end up quietly projecting hesitation instead of confidence, without ever saying a discouraging word out loud. The fix isn’t a better script. It’s actually knowing, firsthand, what someone sees when they go through your funnel, so the confidence you’re trying to project is real instead of performed.

What’s actually holding people back from a platform like this?

Once that internal piece is handled, the technical barrier turns out to be almost nothing. Starting a live broadcast is one button, the same red circle you already know from recording a video on your phone. No editing software, no retakes, no second chances if a sentence comes out wrong, which sounds like a downside until you realize what it actually gives you: permission to just be yourself, because there’s no perfected version of yourself available to hide behind. As it’s put directly, “who else is better at being you than you?”

What’s the real system behind ten minutes of live, unscripted video?

Underneath the apparent chaos of live broadcasting is an actual structure, and it’s what separates someone who rambles for ten minutes from someone who builds real reach from it.

  • Open with a headline, something that tells a stranger scrolling past exactly what they’re about to get
  • Reintroduce yourself periodically, since people join mid-broadcast and never heard your opening line
  • Give people a specific, repeated reason to share and engage, since none of that happens automatically
  • Block hostility the moment it shows up instead of engaging with it, so it doesn’t hijack the room
  • Stay visibly interactive, shouting out names and locations as people join, so strangers watching feel like they’re already part of something

The content itself doesn’t need to be complicated either. Come up with ten problems your specific audience actually has, then ten solutions your business genuinely solves them with. That alone is ten days of broadcasts, each one built around a single problem and a single answer, with nothing invented and nothing padded.

Why do the smartest broadcasters get people off the platform instead of selling on it?

Here’s the part that runs against instinct. A live, worldwide, anonymous audience is not the place to close a sale, no matter how many people are watching or how many hearts are stacking up on the screen. It’s not an intimate environment, and trying to sell into it directly usually backfires. The move instead is to build genuine connection live, then invite people somewhere smaller and more controlled, a blog, an email list, a private group, and let the actual selling happen there, after some real relationship exists.

That two-step sequence, connect broadly and publicly, then sell narrowly and personally, is the entire reason a platform built for strangers can still produce real business relationships. Skip straight to the pitch while you’re still a stranger to the room, and you’ll watch the same people who were engaged a minute earlier disappear the second they sense what’s coming.

The full session walks through every one of these tips live, with a real broadcast running in real time. Watch it in full, free, when you Create your free account.

And please, please stay standing and please help me give a very, very warm welcome to Tracy Walker. I'm sorry I looked a little confused when I came out because I need a whiteboard, guys. That's one. I'm going to try to get you guys some information that can help you with Periscope.

Now, you guys know I don't usually carry notebooks and stuff, but this is a VIP. This is like a working session, right? Everybody understand that? Like, I'm not here to tell you my story.

I'm here to help you create a story. Yes? All right. So I've got some notes.

It's a different type of setup. I'm not really looking to motivate you. I'm looking to give you some things that you can do that you can start taking action on as quickly as right now. All right.

So hold on. Hold on. Hold on. I'm going to sit this stuff here.

How many of you guys have a Twitter account? Okay. How many do not have Twitter? Let's put it like that.

Okay. That's not that many people. So here's your call to action. Create a Twitter account.

It's not that hard. Okay. There is a social network, sort of, a platform, I should say, that is associated with Twitter that's called Periscope. How many of you guys have heard of Periscope?

Okay. Now, Periscope is one of those funky little things that allows you to record yourself live. Now, a lot of people talk about reality TV because it's like a bunch of buffoonery sometimes, all right? However, they keep creating more reality TV shows because no matter how much people talk about it, the ratings keep going up.

Don't they? Television networks do not invest money into things if they do not believe ratings and viewership is going to sustain, right? Therefore, I look at Periscope as a way to have your own reality show, in a sense. Not a show, but your own reality experience.

Right? Because you're not going to have, like, six. I mean, you could, but it's like, I'm not asking you to create 16 episodes with storylines and all this. It's just, in our industry, we have to connect with people, don't we?

We have to connect with. There is no way you are going to build this business or any other business without connecting with the people that are going to buy from you in some shape, form, or fashion. And the way that the world is working now, it's really more about the engagement than it is about. The automation of everything.

Right? This is why with Empower Network, for example, you know from the iPass standpoint, or you should know. How many of you guys went through those videos, the setup videos, all of that? Okay.

Because if not, I'm going to give you a spanking. Quick diversion, right? Diversion. Digression.

Before I get back to Periscope. Periscope. You cannot effectively market and promote something to someone. When you have no idea what they're going to experience or see.

It makes you internally nervous and afraid. And when you are nervous and afraid, then if you try to do Pinterest or you try to do SlideShare, the energy in what you're doing is full of fear. And you are projecting, do not sign up. In your presentation.

You don't even know it. It's energetic. You're not saying do not sign up, but you are projecting that. Do you guys understand what I'm saying?

Okay. Okay. So, the more confident you are in what you have, the better and the easier it is for you to communicate that in your marketing. So, it's important.

So, if you have not gone through that information, if you, yesterday should not have been the first time you saw that video from Chris Jones. Some of y'all were like, oh, that was awesome. And I'm like, y'all be ashamed of yourselves. That's a recap.

You should have already known that. So, my point is you can go back and watch it. You can go back to any time that you want to familiarize yourself with what we're doing. But I'm telling you that the leaders in anything get comfortable knowing what it is that they have.

So, when somebody goes through my sales funnel and they say, oh, my goodness, I just don't understand. It's easy for me to say, you just didn't watch the video. Because I know that the video explains it. Are we clear?

Okay. Sorry. Back to my point. So, with Periscope, you have the ability to instantly.

Tap into your market of people and communicate with them, engage with them, and direct them to wherever you want to direct them to. So, my goal here today is to give you guys ten tips to help you with Periscope. Will that be okay? Okay.

Now, likewise, I had to get permission from some of the powers that be to actually do a Periscope while I'm doing the training on Periscope. I'm into showing you better than I can tell you. And if anything, I can show you and tell you simultaneously. What did I tell you guys the other day?

Stop it with the trying to read the whole 40-page manual and then implement everything you read on page one. Read page one through five and go do what happened on one through five. Right? Take it in chunks.

So, I'm trying to show you simultaneously while I'm telling you so that you can see how easy it is. In fact, it's. It's nothing but a button that says start broadcast. You know how you record a video on your smartphone?

It's like a red button and you hit it? That is the complexity of what you have to do technically to start a Periscope. Now, it took me a minute to even realize that a Periscope was like that submarine thing. You guys know what I'm talking about?

Like, I didn't know what the hell a Periscope was. It didn't make me a difference. All I knew was like, okay, that's a cool name. And somebody was like, oh, isn't a Periscope that?

Submarine thing? I said, oh, I never knew that. I had already made $3,000 by that point. I didn't care.

Some of you guys are caught up in the minutia of, well, what is a Periscope? Exactly. The research. Who's the founder?

What's their social security number? Exactly what company? What country are they located? Where are their servers housed?

And how many data points? Look. Hit the red button and go. Okay?

All right. So, what I'm doing, I'm going to need some help. Somebody. Silvio, somebody.

Or maybe Mark. Mark, yes. Because we were talking about this, right, on leadership. Okay?

Would you mind holding this for me? Ten tips on how. Okay. This is one of the tips.

I'm going to give it to you. There is a section on here. Like, when you first go on the Periscope, there is a section that asks you, what are you seeing? What are you seeing?

In other words, what is your Periscope about? Okay? It's a headline. Think of it that way.

It's a headline. So, that's what I'm typing. So, I'm typing live from the Empower Network stage. Ten tips on how to effectively use Periscope.

Now, some of you guys would stop right there, wouldn't you? How to effectively use Periscope. From a headline perspective, people want to know so it can help them do what? Right?

It's not just on using Periscope. It's using Periscope to help you make more sales. Ah, I want to watch that Periscope now. To help you get more leads.

Oh, yes. If it's just to use Periscope, and if you were like me, you don't even know what the hell a Periscope is, you don't care. Okay? How to effectively use Periscope to, I'm going to say, get more.

If I can spell get. Get. More. Leads.

Right? Now, I'm going to hit start broadcast, and it's going to be all of you guys. Hold on. Hold on, Mark.

We're coming. All right. So, this is Tracy Walker, and I am live from the Empower Network stage. And Mark is getting fine over there.

I'm live from the Empower Network stage, and I'm going to be talking about the ten tips to, on how you use Periscope effectively to get more leads for your business. Whatever the business is that you're in, it doesn't matter whether you're network marketing, internet marketing, you can be an accountant, you can be a chiropractor, you can be a hairstylist, you could sell jewelry. It doesn't really make a difference. The point is, you can get more leads.

Okay? So, here's what we're going to do. I am going to pass this over to my good friend, Mr. Mark Dale.

And there's something going on. I don't see any. Anybody watching this Periscope? It says start as an error.

Please start starting again. You guys got that error? The Wi-Fi? There is no Wi-Fi.

Okay. Hold on, hold on, hold on. Time out, time out. Simple solution.

What's the Wi-Fi? Okay, not connected, Wi-Fi. Look, and as I'm doing this, the quote of the day pops up on my phone, right? It reminds me, it says, work hard.

Oh, wait, let me go back to it, because it went away. It says, work hard and become a leader. Be lazy and never succeed. Guess where that came from?

Wow, it says the Bible. Proverbs 12, 24. Oh, yeah, so some of you guys, that's like, get in your book. Y'all reading a book, which I'm not doing.

Y'all picking and choosing what y'all going to do out the book. Okay. Is there a way I can get Wi-Fi, Mooney, somebody? Okay, which network?

Samsung's. Galaxy Note? Join the network. Okay.

Okay. Okay, perfect. Thank you, darling. Ah, success.

Dang, how'd I use eight, 12 minutes already? Okay, so let's go back to where we were. My headline is still there. And I'm going to hit, wait a minute, it says initialize in the video stream.

Let me copy my headline and come back out. So one of the tips, by the way, is create a headline, just so you know. That's not random. That's, that is one of the tips.

All right. I'm not getting, now I'm not getting the video stream. So we'll come back to it, Mark. Thank you.

Okay, let's do this. Let's keep it moving. All right. So that's number one.

Okay. It's going to ask you, what are you seeing? What are you seeing? And it always is going to face away from you.

Okay. It's going to face away from you. There's a lot of stuff been written on this board. Can you guys see that?

Good Lord. Okay, can you see that one before I write a whole bunch of stuff? Okay, so we want headline. Headline, headline, headline.

Some people start their Periscopes and the headline is, hey, I see it, right? Not saying bad or good. I'm saying this. If you have no influence, hey will not get you influence.

If you are a top earner in a company and everybody is connected to you and you start your Periscope and you say, hey. It works, doesn't it? So it's relative. What I'm saying is that that's not the learning or the teaching that I'm giving to you.

Start with a headline. Something that helps somebody. Something the same way that you would early capture page. Something that you would your slide share.

Something that you would anything where you want someone to actually stop doing what they're doing in such this busy world when you have nine seconds of attention and capture theirs. Are we clear? Okay. So the second thing.

Is your intro some of you guys are like, oh, what do I say? They ramble, ramble, ramble, ramble. Look, it's live TV. Now, if you don't like what you're saying, you could just like abruptly in your broadcast.

Right? People like, oh, what happened? It's not a video. It's not YouTube.

You do not have retakes. The benefit is that you get to just be yourself. It's no pressure. It's just be you.

And who else is better at being you than you? Imagine that. You've been being you all this time. Okay, so your intro, you guys, when I thought I was live, I said, hey, hey, guys, I'm like, that's my thing, like, hey, guys, Tracy Walker here, right, if you guys have been watching my Periscopes, most times I'm saying, hey, my name is Tracy Walker, I'm an internet marketing entrepreneur and a blogger, right, my blog is blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, dot com, where I blog all about marketing, blogging, and entrepreneurship.

That's my intro. That's my intro. That's just my intro, right, because what happens is you have people called trolls, stalkers, haters that jump onto your Periscope because it's associated with Twitter, right, people can just get on, and then they start typing things in the comments section like, who is this broad? What is this about?

You're a scammer. That's a pyramid. So what happens is if you at least. State your intro from the top, the people that are jumping on are aware of what area you're going to be talking about.

That make sense? And isn't that fair? Wouldn't you want someone to tell you that? Okay, so you've got your intro.

So you also have to think of this as a public service announcement. You guys listen to the radio sometimes, and you know how ever so often they'll say, hey, this is the beat 105. Right, FM ever so often, or the DJ would say, hey, you're turning into DJ Phantom, right, DJ Phantom. And it's, you know, the late the night storm.

They have to announce their broadcast station ever so often. I want you to do that, too, because people on Periscope are jumping on your scope and jumping off your scope at different periods of time. So you have to assume that maybe 10 minutes into your scope that the people that are watching may not have heard you. At the very beginning, when you gave your intro the first time.

So you're always reminding people who you are and what you're talking about. Does that make sense? Intro. Intro.

If we can get this going, let me see how much time I got. Jesus. Okay. So remind to share.

Okay, here's one of the powerful things about Periscope. People can be on your Periscope and they can share. Share the Periscope while you're doing the Periscope. It's called word of mouth.

That's what share means in our world. It means word of mouth. So when people say, oh, yeah, word of mouth is the best form of advertising. Then why are you not liking and sharing stuff?

Okay. So you have to tell people that. You're consistently giving calls to actions in your broadcast. Right?

You're consistently, hey, listen, guys, if you are enjoying this content, please go ahead and share right now. And then you have to tell them how to share. You could learn all this. I don't have time to teach all of it in detail.

I'm trying to give you the gist. Are you getting at least enough of what I'm saying? That I promise you, if you just opened up your phone and hit the start broadcast, a lot of it, you would figure out. It's kindergarten material.

I'm trying to not overcomplicate it. Okay? How do you think I learned it? I didn't go to college for it.

And pay 50 grand for it. Just so you know. Okay. So I can't spell remind.

So remind people to share. And there are these things called hearts on Periscope. Remind people to give you hearts. Right?

And people say different cute little things like, okay, guys, if you're feeling this, heart it up, heart it up. And then I had to realize you have to tell people how to give hearts. Okay? Right?

Like, okay, look, take your, so you'll see at times I say, listen, take your index finger and tap the screen. Just tap, tap, tap, tap, tap, tap, tap, tap, tap, tap, tap, tap, tap, tap. And as you tap, you will see a heart on the side. You'll see hearts just going up, going up, going up.

Give me some love, guys. If you like what you're saying, if you like what I'm sharing with you guys, give me some love. Share the love. Yes?

Right? Now, you know, on our blogs and things of that sort, you have the social media icons, right? Like Facebook, Twitter, Google+, whatever. And then you can have a little thing that says share the love or sharing is caring.

Right? It's the same concept, but you're saying it now. What this is is you are being the leader. Do you guys get that?

We're not, we're no longer sitting behind our computer pretending that you're not in the business of marketing products and services to people because you want them to have a better experience in whatever it is that they're doing and you want them to give you the money for it. Okay? So be, be engaging with people. Remind people to give you the hearts.

Now, what do the hearts mean? It means hearts. That's one of the things I'm still really, really working on is trying to figure out, well, what significance is it other than it looks good when you go to somebody's profile and you see that they have nine million hearts? What is the significance?

Right? What do I get? Does something happen? Do you get sponsorships, promotions, features?

There are some of those things that happen, but monetarily, how does that help? I haven't figured out exactly how that transitions yet. In the meantime, it doesn't matter. Get as many hearts as you can.

Got it? Okay. Next thing. Oh, how to stop your broadcast.

Oh, yes, it's a big one, right? It's amazing. You don't think it's that big of a deal because the way that you started the broadcast is not the way that it ends. You're not consciously thinking about that at that time, right?

You hit the button that says start broadcast. It's right there for you, you hit it, you go to town on what you're talking about, and then when it's over, you realize, oh, shh, where the hell is that red stop button, right? Now you're live, and now you're saying, uh-oh, where's the stop button? Where's the stop button?

Guys, can I have like two more seconds, please? Please, please, does it get through my list? Okay. Where's the stop button?

Okay. So how you stop your Periscope is you have to, on your smartphone, you have to swipe down. Everybody know how to swipe down? Is there anyone who does not know how to swipe down?

Because I'm telling you, that is the most difficult thing about Periscope, is swiping down, okay? Because I have seen tons of Periscopes where people are like, oh, God, how do you stop this thing? Oh, God. Oh, God, what do you do?

I don't know. They're live, like, oh, what do I do? How do you stop? They're tapping it, right?

They're looking. They're tapping. They're like, oh, Lord, I don't know how to do this. Oh, God.

Okay. Now they're panicked. This is a big deal. Try to do a broadcast, and I didn't tell you that.

You would be so pissed at me. Why didn't you tell me how to stop it? Okay. Blocking.

Important. Remember the trolls I told you about? They get on there. They get on there.

Nothing against men, but sometimes when you have women on these Periscopes, men say such horrible sexual things. Imagine. Literally. Show me your tits.

Show me your boobs. So what happens is that it's not personal. What happens as a professional is that you do not entertain or give energy to things that are not in alignment with your message, yes? So there's this thing called blocking.

The first time you see a ridiculous, asinine comment such as that, you simply tap on that person's, because comments are coming up on Periscope. People are typing, and you see the comments on your screen. You tap that person's comment. You just tap it.

And when you tap it, another little window pops up that asks you, do you want to block this user? Block user, ban user, and something else it says. Just hit block. During your scope, do not announce, oh, my God, this guy just asked me to show him my tits.

Don't, you know, don't get into all that. Don't get offended. If you see it, be able to acknowledge this is an idiot, it's a fool. You tap the thing.

You hit block user, and guess what happens? It shows all of your viewers that you have blocked that user. Everybody knows that you've blocked that user. But that user is out.

And you continue with what you're doing. Am I clear? Yes. Do not go on Periscope, see people that start antagonizing you, and then you start fighting and fussing with them about it's a pyramid.

Don't do it. Block them instantly. It will not get better. If you think you're going to give somebody a chance because you're nice, see if they have self-correction, it's not going to happen.

They're going to intensify. Am I clear? Okay. Blocking.

Seven. Stay interactive. Stay interactive. So sometimes I might do a Periscope and I'm sitting on my couch, right?

And it's like a dead background. It's just the wall or the picture or whatever it is that's going on. So you got to do stuff. If you are not a person that can keep talking like me, just on and on and on, like nonstop and never ever stop, ever, like never, except when you're asleep.

And then maybe then it's still never. You have to do other stuff, right? You have to create a background for yourself, but I'm not saying you go outside, go, go in the park, create a scenery, do something. Do you understand what I'm saying?

Do something. It's live TV. This is why people act a fool on television because it's ratings. Do you get it?

I'm not saying act the fool. What I'm saying is just do something more exciting than just sit there and just look at the screen. Okay? So you stay interactive.

You ask people to interact with you. Hey guys, if you like, where's everybody from? Right? Go ahead.

In the, in the comment section, give me your name and where you're from and they'll start putting things in. And then what do you do? You say, oh my goodness. Welcome Portugal.

Oh my goodness. Welcome from Spain. Oh, I see you from Colorado. Oh, thank you.

It's so nice to see you. Minnesota in the house, right? You're seeing this stuff. People love to be shouted out to.

Right? They love it. And if your team members get on, then shout them out too. Right?

I'm out. If Dion's on by, oh, Hey Dion, what's up Dion? Right? If, if Tony, Tony always jumps, I'm like, Hey Tony, girl, what's going on?

Right? It's that it's people are right. Like there's, oh my God, she has a relationship with these people. These aren't all strangers to her.

How do they know her like this? How does she know them like this? Okay. So you want to do that.

Now, the crazy thing about Twitter and Periscope is that it uses the same handle for the most part. And because of that, if you have a handle like rich boss, then I don't know that you're Sam Smith. So I have to keep saying in my Periscope, Oh, Hey rich boss. Good to see you.

You understand? So I asked people to give me their name so that I can communicate with them by name. Hey, give value. Is that any different than anything else we are saying?

Give the value. Give the value. So come up with something. Come.

This is a thing everybody should be able to do. Come up with 10 problems. I shared this on the webinar, right? Come up with 10 problems that your market has 10 problems, your target market.

You should have a target market. If you don't, you need to get it before you leave out of here today. So 10 problems that your target market has. And then you want to come up with 10 solutions that you, your company, your products, your services.

10 solutions that how those things solve the solve the problems. Are you with me? 10 problems and 10 solutions. One solution for every problem.

You could do a Periscope every day about one problem in one solution. You've got 10 days worth of stuff already out the gate. Do you understand? It's not that hard, but you got to do this because if you don't do this, you will not get followers.

Fans. People will not share things like that. You want to do. Now, the next thing is you want to get people off.

This is what Lawrence Tam talked about, right? Get people off Periscope. You cannot say you can, but it's harder to make sales and do things with people on Periscope. It is not an intimate environment.

Okay. It is a live worldwide global environment. You have to get people off of Periscope into something a little bit more intimate that you can control. Like a Facebook group.

Does that make sense? Can you control a Facebook group better than you can? Random people jumping on your Periscope. So if you want to sell something, you don't really sell it from Periscope.

Usually you want to get people off of Periscope into a community. Layla talked about that, right? And within your community, then you sell stuff. Two step process.

Stop trying to sell stuff when you don't know people yet. Am I clear? If I get on your Periscope and you do it, I am going to like go berserk. Okay.

Then you have your calls to action, right? So calls to action, if you remember what number nine is, is usually I'm saying to people, hey guys, make sure you head over to my blog at blah blah blah blah blah dot com and subscribe. Subscribe to my blog. And in fact, when you subscribe to my blog, I'm going to give you a free, whatever my free offer is on my blog, right?

It's that. It's that. Hey guys, I'm doing a free webinar. Make sure you join my Facebook group at blah blah blah blah blah, right?

And when you get in there for everybody that gets into this Facebook group today, I'm going to be sending you a free report on how to, do you get where I'm going with this? Okay. This is the same process over and over and over and over and over again. And this is the last, the last tip and then I'm, I'm done.

The bonus here is this, they're called networking parties. Okay. This is really important. I'm telling you right now, this right here, networking parties, if you want to meet a lot of different people.

Don't be selfish. It's not always about what you have and what your business is and how much people, how people can join you. I learned this very, very early. I got on a networking party is what they're called.

And what happens is the girl was on here and she is letting all the people jump on and tell what their businesses, what their business is and how people can connect with them. And in an offline environment, it's the meetup group. In the offline environment, you come to my meetup group and I'm going to let all the different people stand up there for two minutes, right? And talk about what they have.

And pass out business. Pass out business cards. In the online environment, in Periscope, I'm going to do the same thing. I'm inviting as many people to my Periscope and people get to put in the comments, yes, I'm an internet marketer and a blogger.

Follow me. Right? Follow me if you want to learn how to get more leads for your business. Follow me if you want to be able to ease the pain in your back.

Follow me if you want to get, you know, tax time will be coming up soon. Follow me if you want to get, you know, more money back on your taxes or whatever it is. Right? Whatever the value is that you offer, you do this.

What happens is that more people will start inviting other people now, don't they? Because, oh, my God, girl, she's letting you tell what your business is on here. And so everybody's inviting people. I've gotten up to 40,000 hearts in a two-hour period of time all because of that.

And just so you know, if you tap the screen really fast for like two minutes, it's like 500 hearts. I got 40,000 hearts in two hours. All by letting other people come and share and talk. And now guess what?

They're all connected to me. I'm connected to them. And now we can network in different ways, can't we? Right?

I can do different types of things. So this networking party is really, really important. It's fun. I'll do some other things on Periscope to kind of go into some of these details.

But I wanted to give you guys the gist. I'm sorry I went over time a little bit. But was that some value for you? Okay.

And I'm sorry I wasn't able to do the live Periscope. But that's not important. What's important is that you guys have strategies. I'm sorry.

You have strategies today that you can implement today. So what I expect, I'm going to give you a call to action. I'm going to set an expectation. The expectation is that I want to see people doing their Periscopes today.

Today. Okay? Don't ask me if I'll do a Periscope with you. Do your own Periscope.

You don't need me in your Periscope. Do your own Periscope. Are we clear? And once I see you doing your own Periscopes, then I'll get in a Periscope with you because I know you for real.

All right? So. All right, guys. So listen.

I'm going to. I don't know. Am I bringing up the next person or no? I'm good?

All right. So. You guys got all that value. This has been Tracy Walker.

Go do your Periscopes. Y'all have a great VIP day. Ladies and gentlemen, Tracy Walker. She's fabulous.

Still want to know me, Tracy Walker.

And the way that the world is working now, it's really more about the engagement than it is about the automation of everything.

You cannot effectively market and promote something to someone when you have no idea what they're going to experience or see.

It makes you internally nervous and afraid. And when you are nervous and afraid, then if you try to do Pinterest or you try to do SlideShare, the energy in what you're doing is full of fear. And you are projecting, do not sign up, in your presentation.

So, when somebody goes through my sales funnel and they say, oh, my goodness, I just don't understand, it's easy for me to say, you just didn't watch the video. Because I know that the video explains it. Are we clear? Okay.

Sorry. Back to my point. So, with Periscope, you have the ability to instantly tap into your market of people and communicate with them, engage with them, and direct them to wherever you want to direct them to.

In fact, it's nothing but a button that says start broadcast.

It didn't make a difference to me.

All I knew was like, okay, that's a cool name. And somebody was like, oh, isn't a Periscope that submarine thing? I said, oh, I never knew that. I didn't care.

Some of you guys are caught up in the minutia of, well, what is a Periscope, exactly?

I'm live from the Empower Network stage, and I'm going to be talking about the ten tips on how you use Periscope effectively to get more leads for your business.

I don't see anybody watching this Periscope.

Okay. Is there a way I can get Wi-Fi, somebody?

Okay, which network? Samsung's. Galaxy Note? Join the network. Okay.

Okay. Okay, perfect. Thank you, darling. Ah, success. Dang, how'd I use eight, 12 minutes already?

Okay, so let's go back to where we were. My headline is still there. And I'm going to hit, wait a minute, it says initialize the video stream. Let me copy my headline and come back out. So one of the tips, by the way, is create a headline, just so you know.

That's not random. That is one of the tips. All right. I'm not getting, now I'm not getting the video stream. So we'll come back to it, Mark.

Thank you. Okay, let's do this. Let's keep it moving. All right. So that's number one.

Okay. It's going to ask you, what are you seeing? And it always is going to face away from you. Okay.

It's going to face away from you. There's a lot of stuff been written on this board. Can you guys see that? Good Lord. Okay, can you see that one before I write a whole bunch of stuff?

Okay, so we want headline. Headline, headline, headline. Some people start their Periscopes and the headline is, hey, I see it, right? Not saying bad or good. I'm saying this.

If you have no influence, hey will not get you influence. If you are a top earner in a company and everybody is connected to you and you start your Periscope and you say, hey, it works, doesn't it? So it's relative. What I'm saying is that's not the learning or the teaching that I'm giving to you.

Start with a headline. Something that helps somebody. Something the same way that you would in a squeeze page. Something that you would in your SlideShare. Something that you would anything where you want someone to actually stop doing what they're doing in such this busy world when you have nine seconds of attention and capture theirs.

Are we clear? Okay. So the second thing is your intro. Some of you guys are like, oh, what do I say? They ramble, ramble, ramble, ramble.

Look, it's live TV. Now, if you don't like what you're saying, you could just like abruptly stop in your broadcast. Right? People like, oh, what happened? It's not a video.

It's not YouTube. You do not have retakes. The benefit is that you get to just be yourself. It's no pressure. It's just be you.

And who else is better at being you than you? Imagine that. You've been being you all this time. Okay, so your intro, you guys, when I thought I was live, I said, hey, hey, guys. I'm like, that's my thing, like, hey, guys, Tracy Walker here, right, if you guys have been watching my Periscopes, most times I'm saying, hey, my name is Tracy Walker, I'm an internet marketing entrepreneur and a blogger, right, my blog is blah, blah, blah, blah, blah dot com, where I blog all about marketing, blogging, and entrepreneurship.

So what happens is if you at least state your intro from the top, the people that are jumping on are aware of what area you're going to be talking about. That make sense? And isn't that fair? Wouldn't you want someone to tell you that?

Okay, so you've got your intro. So you also have to think of this as a public service announcement. You guys listen to the radio sometimes, and you know how ever so often they'll say, hey, this is the beat 105, right, FM ever so often, or the DJ would say, hey, you're tuning into DJ Phantom, right, DJ Phantom, and it's, you know, the late night storm.

They have to announce their broadcast station ever so often. I want you to do that, too, because people on Periscope are jumping on your scope and jumping off your scope at different periods of time. So you have to assume that maybe 10 minutes into your scope that the people that are watching may not have heard you at the very beginning, when you gave your intro the first time. So you're always reminding people who you are and what you're talking about.

Does that make sense? Intro, intro.

You're consistently giving calls to action in your broadcast. Right? You're consistently, hey, listen, guys, if you are enjoying this content, please go ahead and share right now.

And then you have to tell them how to share. You could learn all this. I don't have time to teach all of it in detail. I'm trying to give you the gist. Are you getting at least enough of what I'm saying?

I promise you, if you just opened up your phone and hit the start broadcast, a lot of it, you would figure out.

Just tap, tap, tap, tap, tap, tap.

What this is, you are being the leader. Do you guys get that? We're not, we're no longer sitting behind our computer pretending that you're not in the business of marketing products and services to people because you want them to have a better experience in whatever it is that they're doing and you want them to give you the money for it.

Okay? So be engaging with people. Remind people to give you the hearts. Now, what do the hearts mean? It means hearts.

That's one of the things I'm still really, really working on, is trying to figure out, well, what significance is it other than it looks good when you go to somebody's profile and you see that they have nine million hearts?

It's right there for you, you hit it, you go to town on what you're talking about, and then when it's over, you realize, oh, shoot, where the hell is that red stop button, right?

Now you're live, and now you're saying, oh, where's the stop button?

You have to create a background for yourself, but I'm not saying you go outside, go in the park, create a scenery, do something. Do you understand what I'm saying? Do something. It's live TV. This is why people act a fool on television, because it's ratings.

Do you get it? I'm not saying act the fool. What I'm saying is just do something more exciting than just sit there and just look at the screen. Okay? So you stay interactive.

You ask people to interact with you. Hey guys, where's everybody from? Right? Go ahead, in the comment section, give me your name and where you're from, and they'll start putting things in.

And then what do you do? You say, oh my goodness, welcome Portugal. Oh my goodness, welcome from Spain.

Oh, I see you from Colorado. Oh, thank you. It's so nice to see you. Minnesota in the house, right? You're seeing this stuff.

People love to be shouted out to. Right? They love it. And if your team members get on, then shout them out too. Right?

If Dion's on, I'm like, hey, Dion, what's up, Dion? Right? If Tony, Tony always jumps on, I'm like, hey, Tony, girl, what's going on? Right?

It's that, it's people are like, oh my God, she has a relationship with these people.

So I have to keep saying in my Periscope, oh, hey, rich boss.

Good to see you. You understand? So I ask people to give me their name so that I can communicate with them by name. Hey, give value. Is that any different than anything else we are saying?

Give the value. Give the value. So come up with something. This is a thing everybody should be able to do.

Come up with 10 problems. I shared this on the webinar, right? Come up with 10 problems that your target market has. You should have a target market. If you don't, you need to get it before you leave out of here today.

So, 10 problems that your target market has. And then you want to come up with 10 solutions that you, your company, your products, your services, 10 solutions, how those things solve the problems. Are you with me? 10 problems and 10 solutions.

One solution for every problem. You could do a Periscope every day about one problem and one solution. You've got 10 days worth of stuff already out the gate. Do you understand? It's not that hard, but you got to do this, because if you don't do this, you will not get followers.

Can you control a Facebook group better than you can random people jumping on your Periscope?

So if you want to sell something, you don't really sell it from Periscope. Usually you want to get people off of Periscope into a community. Layla talked about that, right? And within your community, then you sell stuff. Two step process.

Stop trying to sell stuff when you don't know people yet. Am I clear? If I get on your Periscope and you do it, I am going to like go berserk. Okay. Then you have your calls to action, right?

So calls to action, if you remember what number nine is, is usually I'm saying to people, hey guys, make sure you head over to my blog at blah dot com and subscribe. Subscribe to my blog. And in fact, when you subscribe to my blog, I'm going to give you a free, whatever my free offer is on my blog, right? It's that. It's that.

Hey guys, I'm doing a free webinar. Make sure you join my Facebook group at blah, right? And when you get in there, for everybody that gets into this Facebook group today, I'm going to be sending you a free report on how to, do you get where I'm going with this? Okay. This is the same process over and over and over and over and over again.

And this is the last, the last tip and then I'm done. The bonus here is this, they're called networking parties. Okay. This is really important. I'm telling you right now, this right here, networking parties, if you want to meet a lot of different people.

Don't be selfish. It's not always about what you have and what your business is and how people can join you.

And pass out business cards.

Follow me if you want to get, you know, more money back on your taxes, or whatever it is.
