Why Most of Your Traffic Disappears, and the Pixel That Brings It Back

This lesson is part of Internet Traffic Formula
The full recording is free with an account. One email gets you in.

Most of the people who land on your page never opt in. You already know that. What you might not have worked out is what happens to them after they click away. On a typical landing page, somewhere around 20 to 25 percent of visitors leave you their email. The rest, the majority of everyone you worked to get there, just disappear. Vic Strizheus opens this module by naming that leak directly, then hands over the fix he says belongs underneath every other traffic method you run.

What happens to the visitors who never opt in?

Without anything else in place, the answer is nothing. They came, they looked, they left, and you have no way to reach them again unless they gave you their email. Every dollar spent getting them to the page is sunk the moment they close the tab. That’s the gap Vic Strizheus is pointing at before he even names the tool: most marketers pour money and effort into driving traffic to a landing page and then let three out of every four of those visitors vanish for good.

The fix he teaches is retargeting, and the mechanism is simple even if the result looks like magic to the person on the receiving end. You place a small piece of code, a pixel, on your landing page. The instant someone lands there, even for a second, that code drops a cookie in their browser. It doesn’t matter whether they opt in or not. From that moment on, they’re added to a pool of people you can keep advertising to anywhere they go on the internet.

Why did Vic Strizheus’s wife keep seeing the same purse everywhere she went?

He tells the story to make the mechanism concrete before he explains it. His wife was shopping online and looked at a particular purse on a retailer’s site, just browsing, no sale. Afterward, that same product started following her. As Vic Strizheus tells it, “she sees this ad that’s for this purse that she looked at once”, on YouTube, on weather sites, everywhere she clicked next. She had no idea why, and neither did he at first. That curiosity is what sent him looking for the name of what he’d just watched happen to his own wife.

they will see you everywhere

That’s the whole promise of retargeting stated as plainly as it gets. Once someone’s cookie is in your pool, your ad can show up on CNN, Weather.com, Fox News, Huffington Post, wherever that person happens to browse next, regardless of whether they gave you an email address. You’re not hoping they come back. You’re following them.

Should this run underneath everything else you’re already doing?

Vic Strizheus is direct about where retargeting fits: not as a replacement for your other traffic, but as a layer under all of it. Whatever’s already sending people to your landing page, pay-per-click, Facebook, social video, an agency, even your own email list, keeps doing exactly what it’s doing. Retargeting just makes sure the visitors who don’t convert on the first pass aren’t gone for good.

A few things worth knowing before the next lesson walks through setup:

  • The cookie gets placed the moment someone lands on your page, whether or not they take any action.
  • People who do opt in should eventually get removed from the pool, since there’s no reason to keep advertising to someone who already said yes.
  • It costs very little to run compared to buying ad space directly on the sites where your retargeted ads end up appearing.
  • It works quietly in the background. You set it up once and it keeps following your traffic without any extra daily effort from you.

What makes this worth learning isn’t the novelty of seeing your own ad on a site you didn’t pay to advertise on directly, it’s what it does to the math on everything you’re already running. Traffic you thought you’d lost for good is still recoverable, and the setup is small enough to add this week without touching anything else in your funnel.

The full session goes further into the retargeting networks Vic Strizheus actually uses and why. Watch it in full, free, when you Create your free account.

All right, here we go. Welcome back to, uh, traffic amplifier module. Man, this stuff is awesome. My, uh, one of my favorite modules in, uh, in this particular course. Why? Because this stuff is ninja. This stuff is something you’re gonna absolutely love when I explain this to you, uh, really, really, really powerful stuff.

The, really, you know what really gets me excited about this particular module is, you know, I’ll be showing you some things that not very many marketers know about. And, and, and even out of those people who actually know or heard about this, you know, very, very small percentage of those people actually are using or implementing this type of, you know, traffic getting techniques, um, in their marketing, which, uh, which is great, you know, for guys like myself, like you, right?

So let’s cover this, let’s talk about this. We have quite a few things I wanted to, uh, to cover with you in this module, uh, but, uh, this particular video, I wanted to paint a big picture for you, right? I wanted to show you how this thing works in theory, from, um, you know, 30,000, uh, feet above, kind of, you give you that perspective, uh, and then we are going to dive into the actually, um, you know, how this stuff is, is, uh, is done. All right, kind of stuff. So, but again, please, please watch, you know, all these videos in order, uh, it’ll be important for you to understand this. All right.

Now, this stuff is cool. All right, why is this cool? Because it’s easy to set up. Why is this cool? Because it’s inexpensive. You know, don’t give me any of the excuses that, like, I don’t have thousands of dollars to do this. You know, it’s not like, best man, this stuff is very inexpensive, and, um, and anybody can apply this. Okay, this can increase your conversions exponentially. All right, the reason I call it the traffic amplifier is because you’re literally, you’re amplifying your traffic, okay, without doing much, um, and, you know, without doing a whole lot of extra work, I mean virtually no extra work. You’re going to be doing for this, you’re going to set it up one time, um, you’re going to let it run, and, uh, results can be astonishing. I’m going to let it run and you’re going to let it run. All right.

Now, what happens here is, uh, basically, people visit your page, okay, uh, and, uh, and, and, and, you know, as, as long as they visited your page, whatever page you’re promoting, hopefully it’s a landing page, right, as long as they landed on that at least one time, at least for a millisecond, they don’t have to opt in or nothing like that, right? Guess what? They will see you everywhere, okay? They go, they can go to, like, cnn.com, and, they, you, you know, your, your ad is going to be there. They can go to weather.com, your ad is going to be there. They can go to foxnews.com, guess what, they can see your ad on that site, okay? They can go to Huffington Post and your, your ad is going to be there. And they’ll be like, what the heck, why am I seeing this guy or this gal everywhere I go? Are they following me? Well, the answer is yes. All right, so we’re going to be following them everywhere they go. And it’s all legit, it’s all legal, it’s all, um, it’s really, really cool stuff, okay.

Until, I’m telling you, this is, this is gonna love. I, I say this, this should be applied to all of your marketing. So regardless if you’re doing whatever, you know, campaigns that you’re running, uh, for getting traffic, I, uh, suggest that, you know, you start implementing this type of stuff in all of your marketing efforts. All right, including the emails that you send out to your list. So let’s take a look at how this thing works. All right, here you got your good old-fashioned, uh, different types of, um, traffic. All right, there are different traffic generation methods that you can use to get your ad to Action.

Are deploying out there, you know, as you’re building your business. You can be doing pay-per-click, you can be doing Facebook marketing, you can be doing social media video marketing, you can be getting traffic from email, right, you can, you can be getting traffic from, you know, agencies, pay-per-view, you can be doing media buying, heck, you can be blasting out your own list, for all I know, right? But when people see your link, right, when people see your ad and they click on it and they get to your landing page, that’s what you should be advertising all the time, and you get that, right? I mean, obviously, we’ve been talking about this over and over and over again, and then this is like, I don’t want to sound like a broken record, but I’m telling you, so many people out there, they don’t even, they don’t even run traffic to the landing page. I’m like, what’s wrong with you guys, man, you just, we just losing money like left and right. And not cool, don’t do that.

But typically, all right, you will have traffic going to your landing page so you can get that opt-in, okay? Especially now, obviously, if you probably don’t have traffic on your landing page, you can get that opt-in promoting to your list, if you’re sending out, you know, an email to your own list of people that are already subscribed, you know, of course, you’re not gonna send them, you know, to your landing page again for them to resubscribe. I just wanted to clarify that, I mean, this is just common sense type stuff, but I just wanted to make sure that you understand. But essentially, you just, you know, you’re sending people to your landing page if they are not on your list yet. Make sense? All right.

So then when they opt-in, what happens then is, well, they then, they go and get redirected to your sales page, your, and get redirected to your sales page, your, you know, you want to take them after that, okay, that page can be anything. Now, this is how typical traffic generation is done. All right, or should be done. Now, what we’re gonna do here, all right, is we’re gonna add a little something, we’re gonna add a little twist, called retargeting, okay? And this little cloud, let that represent your own tribe, if you will, okay?

So what happens here is, when people, I’m not sure if you can see my cursor, maybe not, okay, so when people, when people go from pay-per-click, when people see your ad on Facebook, when people see your ad in, you know, if you’re running, getting traffic from a traffic agency or whatever else, right, they click on it, they land on your landing page, and as soon as you, they hit your landing page. See, most people are not going to opt-in. In fact, you know, if you get 30, 40 percent of people opt in, that’s great, okay? Typical opt-in rate in our industry is a 20, 25 percent. Right now, that means that you have about 80, to you know, 80 percent of people, or so, maybe 60 percent of people, that are hitting your landing page and they’re not doing anything, okay, they’re not leaving you their email address, and they’re just clicking off. And guess what, you will never ever see them again unless you have this thing called retargeting set up in place.

So what retargeting is going to do is, it will, you’re gonna put, you’re gonna set this up, I’m gonna show you how to do that in a minute here, okay, or a few minutes. All right, but essentially, what we’re gonna do is we’re gonna set up a retargeting campaign, and, and, and we’re gonna put a little code on our, a landing page. All right, as soon as people hit that landing page, even for a millisecond, that code is gonna be, it’s gonna place a cookie on their computer, on their browser, okay, all legal and everything, don’t freak out. All right, so then that person, that visitor, they can go to any website out there, regardless if they opted in or not, okay, especially if they didn’t opt-in, okay, especially if they did not opt-in, if they visit your site, they clicked off, they can be anywhere on the internet, okay? And guess what, retargeting is going to follow them, your campaign, right, they’re gonna be added to this retargeting pool of people that you are retargeting, and you’re following in the internet, if you can imagine this, this giant pool of people, this, in this cloud. All right.

And, and, you have more people being added, you know, all the time, on the ongoing basis, as you are, you know, doing promotions, and, you know, and you’re expanding your brand, and you’re getting, you know, your message out there, you’re getting more people to visit your, you know, your landing page, right? So essentially, what you’re doing here is you are building your own pool of people that you follow on the internet. Make sense? And so what these people will see is, they will see your banner everywhere they go, literally, okay?

I, you know, I was first introduced to this concept, I did not know what it was called, it was several years ago. You know, my wife, she’s, she does a lot of online, she buys a lot of stuff on the internet, you know, and, you know, and she was shopping for these, I don’t remember what purse she was looking at, but, you know, she was, she was looking at this particular purse, and then, and then all of a sudden, you know, she just went to that website, that company, and then all of a sudden she sees that, you know, purse being advertised everywhere, everywhere she goes. I mean, she can be on YouTube, she can be on, you know, I’m like weather calm, and all of a sudden she sees this ad that’s for this purse that she looked at once, okay? And she’s like, what is going on here? And I, and I got that, got me really, really curious and really interested. I immediately, I thought, you know what, how can I do that in my business, you know, how can I, how can I find a way? And so I was, I was, you know, started to do a little bit of a research on how that’s done. Well, it turns out it’s retargeting. All right.

And this concept has been around for, you know, for quite some time, it’s not anything brand new or, like, you know, groundbreaking or anything, has been around, okay? There are networks, giant networks, that allow us marketers to do retargeting campaigns. But fortunately for us, okay, unfortunately for a lot of people, you see, a lot of marketers don’t even understand this, and yet it’s very, very simple to set up, but the results can be absolutely mind-blowing, okay? So as a marketer, the reason I wanted to save this to the end, kind of, is so that, you know, you would understand, you know, how to get traffic from all these different other traffic getting methods and all that good stuff, right?

So, you know, as you are building your, you know, your campaigns, as you’re expanding, all you need to do at this time is set up your retargeting, and you already have traffic coming into your landing page, hopefully, by this time, right? So we’re just gonna add this retargeting pixel to our, to our site, we’re gonna set up this campaign, which, very, very easy to do, okay? But I’ll walk you through, you know, and show you how to do that in, in this particular module. And then, you know, you’re gonna, you’re gonna have people who visit your website being added to this retargeting cloud. All right.

And then what’s gonna happen is, they’ll see your ads everywhere, and they’ll keep coming back. You can send them anywhere you want to send them to, right? You can send them back to the same landing page if they didn’t opt-in. If they opted in, they’ll be taken out from that cloud, okay? Or you can send them directly to your, note, to your sales video, or at a different, you know, landing page, or guess what, you can send them to a rotator link, right, that you can split them up and send them to a website, and you can send them to a store, so you can send them to your landing page, and then you can make your landing page right in your website, and you can send them to your most recent update. So I recommend me to send them to your most recent update, because it’s going to be super, super, super efficient. And so let me close this video right here.

And I want to make sure, if you’re watching this video, that you’re watching this, I want you to know that you’re not my email address, I’m really, really good at sending emails to you, so please send me an email one day, and send me that email, and I’ll send it, all right, a brand, you know, that can, can help out really, really well as well, okay? So it’s really cool, I use it in my business, um, you should be using it too. Uh, in the next video, I’m going to talk about different types of networks that we can use, uh, in order for us to set up our retargeting campaigns. There’s a couple different ones that I highly recommend you check out, okay, that I personally work with, and then we’re gonna dive in, and I’m gonna show you how this is done. So simple is that, again.

You know me by this time, right, I’m gonna keep it very simple, uh, very easy going, very laid back, uh, but I do want you to understand that the stuff I’m showing you in this, uh, you know, um, in this module is, even though you can take this information, you can set it up, right, you can, you can run with it, um, however, we are going to be diving in more into, you know, some advanced material, uh, with, you know, the, the second and third round of, of the trainings and all that good stuff, okay? So just stay tuned, um, and, uh, you know, I’ll let you know, we’ll have more follow-ups and more advanced, uh, type, uh, strategies on, on these techniques as well, okay? So with that being said, let’s go ahead and, um, turn to video number two, and I’ll see you right over there. Bye.

All right, here we go. Welcome back to Traffic Amplifier module. Man, this stuff is awesome. This is one of my favorite modules in this particular course. Why? Because this stuff is ninja. I wanted to show you how this thing works in theory, from, you know, 30,000 feet above, kind of give you that perspective, and then we are going to dive into actually how this stuff is done. All right, kind of stuff. So, but again, please watch all these videos in order, it'll be important for you to understand this.

All right, now this stuff is cool. All right, why is this cool? Because it's easy to set up. Why is this cool? Because it's inexpensive. Don't give me any of the excuses like "I don't have thousands of dollars to do this." This stuff is very inexpensive and anybody can apply this. Okay, this can increase your conversions exponentially. All right, the reason I call it the Traffic Amplifier is because you're literally amplifying your traffic. Okay, without doing much, and without doing a whole lot of extra work. I mean virtually no extra work you're going to be doing for this. You're going to set it up one time, you're going to let it run, and results can be astonishing. You're going to set it up, let it run, and you're going to let it run.

Okay, they can go to Huffington Post and your ad is going to be there, and they'll be like, "What the heck, why am I seeing this guy or this gal everywhere I go, are they following me?" Well the answer is yes. All right, so we're going to be following them everywhere they go, and it's all legit, it's all legal, it's really cool stuff. Okay, I'm telling you, you're gonna love this. I say this should be applied to all of your marketing, so regardless if you're doing whatever campaigns you're running for getting traffic, I suggest that you start implementing this type of stuff in all of your marketing efforts. All right, including the emails that you send out to your list.

So let's take a look at how this thing works. All right, here you've got your good old-fashioned different types of traffic. All right, there are different traffic generation methods that you can use to get your ad deployed out there. You know, as you're building your business, you can be doing pay-per-click, you can be doing Facebook marketing, you can be doing social media video marketing, you can be getting traffic from email, right, you can be getting traffic from agencies, pay-per-view, you can be doing media buying, heck, you can be blasting out your own list, for all I know, right? But when people see your link, right, when people see your ad and they click on it and they get to your landing page, that's what you should be advertising all the time, and you get that, right, I mean obviously we've been talking about this over and over and over again, and I don't want to sound like a broken record, but I'm telling you, so many people out there, they don't even run traffic to the landing page. I'm like, what's wrong with you guys, man, you're just losing money left and right, and that's not cool, don't do that.

But typically, all right, you will have traffic going to your landing page so you can get that opt-in. Okay, especially now, obviously, if you probably don't have traffic on your landing page, you can get that opt-in promoting to your list. If you're sending out an email to your own list of people that are already subscribed, of course you're not gonna send them to your landing page again for them to resubscribe. I just wanted to clarify that, I mean this is just common sense type stuff, but I just wanted to make sure that you understand. But essentially you're sending people to your landing page if they are not on your list yet. Make sense? All right, so then when they opt-in, what happens then is, well, they then go and get redirected to your sales page, wherever you want to take them after that. Okay, that page can be anything.

Now, this is how typical traffic generation is done, all right, or should be done. Now what we're gonna do here, all right, is we're gonna add a little something, we're gonna add a little twist called retargeting. Okay, and this little cloud, let that represent your own tribe, if you will. Okay, so what happens here is when people, I'm not sure if you can see my cursor, maybe not, okay, so when people go from pay-per-click, when people see your ad on Facebook, when people see your ad if you're getting traffic from a traffic agency or whatever else, right, they click on it, they land on your landing page, and as soon as they hit your landing page, see, most people are not going to opt in. In fact, if you get 30, 40 percent of people opt in, that's great. Okay, typical opt-in rate in our industry is 20, 25 percent. Right, now that means that you have about 80 percent of people, or so, maybe 60 percent of people, that are hitting your landing page and they're not doing anything. Okay, they're not leaving you their email address and they're just clicking off, and guess what, you will never ever see them again, unless you have this thing called retargeting set up in place.

So what retargeting is going to do is, you're gonna set this up, I'm gonna show you how to do that in a minute here, okay, or a few minutes. All right, but essentially what we're gonna do is we're gonna set up a retargeting campaign and we're gonna put a little code on our landing page. All right, as soon as people hit that landing page, even for a millisecond, that code is gonna place a cookie on their computer, on their browser. Okay, all legal and everything, don't freak out. All right, so then that person, that visitor, they can go to any website out there, regardless if they opted in or not. Okay, especially if they did not opt in. If they visit your site, they click off, they can be anywhere on the internet, okay, and guess what, retargeting is going to follow them, your campaign, right, they're gonna be added to this retargeting pool of people that you are retargeting and following on the internet. If you can imagine this giant pool of people, this cloud, all right, and you have more people being added all the time, on an ongoing basis, as you are doing promotions and you're expanding your brand and you're getting your message out there, you're getting more people to visit your landing page, right. So essentially what you're doing here is you are building your own pool of people that you follow on the internet. Make sense?

And so what these people will see is they will see your banner everywhere they go, literally. Okay, I was first introduced to this concept, I did not know what it was called, it was several years ago. My wife, she does a lot of online, she buys a lot of stuff on the internet, and she was shopping for this, I don't remember what purse she was looking at, but she was looking at this particular purse, and then all of a sudden she just went to that website, that company, and then all of a sudden she sees that purse being advertised everywhere she goes. I mean she can be on YouTube, she can be on Weather.com, and all of a sudden she sees this ad for this purse that she looked at once. Okay, and she's like, "What is going on here?" And that got me really curious and really interested. I immediately thought, you know what, how can I do that in my business? How can I find a way? And so I started to do a little bit of research on how that's done. Well, it turns out it's retargeting. All right, and this concept has been around for quite some time, it's not anything brand new or groundbreaking, it has been around. Okay, there are networks, giant networks, that allow us marketers to do retargeting campaigns, but fortunately for us, okay, unfortunately for a lot of people, you see a lot of marketers don't even understand this, and yet it's very simple to set up, but the results can be absolutely mind-blowing.

So as you are building your campaigns, as you're expanding, all you need to do at this time is set up your retargeting, and you already have traffic coming into your landing page hopefully by this time, right. So we're just gonna add this retargeting pixel to our site, we're gonna set up this campaign, which is very easy to do, okay, but I'll walk you through and show you how to do that in this particular module. And then you're gonna have people who visit your website being added to this retargeting cloud, all right, and then what's gonna happen is they'll see your ads everywhere and they'll keep coming back.

You can send them anywhere you want to send them to, right, you can send them back to the same landing page if they didn't opt in. If they opted in, they'll be taken out from that cloud. Okay, or you can send them directly to your sales video, or to a different landing page, or guess what, you can send them to a rotator link, right, that you can split them up and send them to a website, and you can send them to a store. So you can send them to your landing page, and then you can make your landing page, and in your website you can send them to your most recent update, so I recommend to send them to your most recent update because it's going to be super efficient.

And so let me close this video right here, and I want to make sure, if you're watching this video, that you know my email address, I'm really good at sending emails to you, so please send me an email one day and send me that email and I'll send it, all right, a brand that can help out really well as well. Okay, so it's really cool, I use it in my business, you should be using it too.

In the next video I'm going to talk about different types of networks that we can use in order for us to set up our retargeting campaigns. There's a couple different ones that I highly recommend you check out, okay, that I personally work with, and then we're gonna dive in and I'm gonna show you how this is done. Okay, so just stay tuned, and I'll let you know, we'll have more follow-ups and more advanced type strategies on these techniques as well. Okay, so with that being said, let's go ahead and turn to video number two, and I'll see you right over there. Bye.
