Don’t Fall For It Too Easily: What LeadPages Won’t Tell You In Its Rankings
You sort a template library by highest converting and the top result is ugly. Cluttered text, a form that takes up half the page, nothing about it looks like something you’d stop scrolling for. It’s tempting to trust the algorithm anyway, the numbers say it converts, so it must work. Vic Strizheus uses exactly this moment, sitting inside his own LeadPages account, to make a point that has nothing to do with the software and everything to do with how you evaluate any tool that hands you a ranked list.
What can LeadPages actually build beyond a landing page?
Where the previous lesson’s tool puts a single opt-in page on your own hosting, LeadPages is a hosted platform built to produce an entire funnel, not just the front door. Inside one account you can build.
- Opt-in and squeeze pages
- Sales pages
- Webinar registration pages
- Thank you pages
- Upsell and launch pages
It’s a paid tool, with a standard tier and a higher-cost pro tier for more features. And Vic is direct that if you’re going to pay for it, it’s worth using. The appeal is real: instead of stitching together separate tools for each step of a funnel, an opt-in page here, a webinar registration page somewhere else, a thank you page cobbled together on a third platform. You’re picking templates from one library and connecting them into a single flow. That matters more than it sounds like it should. Every extra tool in a funnel is another login, another integration, another place for something to quietly break between one page and the next.
Why shouldn’t you trust highest converting sorting on its own?
LeadPages lets you sort its opt-in templates, there were 34 available at the time of the recording, by conversion performance, pulling from data across its whole user base. That sounds like a shortcut worth taking. Vic’s warning is that it isn’t automatic proof of anything for your specific audience or offer.
don’t fall for that too easily
He points at a page that ranked near the top of the “highest converting” sort and describes it plainly. Heavy on text, heavy on form fields, not something that looks especially persuasive on sight. The lesson underneath that example is that a ranking built from aggregate data across every user isn’t the same thing as a ranking built from your traffic, your offer, and your specific audience. A page that wins across thousands of accounts selling everything from supplements to software isn’t guaranteed to win for your list, your headline, and your particular hook. Treat the sort as a starting point to explore, not a verdict to accept without looking.
This is a smaller version of a mistake that shows up everywhere in online marketing: outsourcing judgment to a number because the number feels objective. A conversion percentage pulled from somebody else’s traffic is real data, it’s just not your data yet. The fix isn’t to ignore the sort feature. It’s to open a handful of the top-ranked templates, actually look at them the way a stranger landing on them cold would, and pick from there instead of clicking whatever sits in the number one slot.
So what’s the actual workflow if you use it?
Vic doesn’t walk through a full build here, and he says so directly. LeadPages already has its own tutorial baked into nearly every template, so duplicating that instruction would just waste your time watching the same thing twice. What he does hand you is the strategy for using the tool well: pick a few templates that fit your offer, ignore the ranking as gospel, and build more than one version.
As he puts it, the move is to “go use it, you know, create like a bunch of them and split test them.” So you’re making decisions off your own data instead of somebody else’s aggregate. That’s a different mechanism than the manual, one-page-at-a-time build in the previous lesson. Here the leverage comes from speed and volume, spinning up several page variations quickly and letting real traffic tell you which one earns its place before you commit your ad budget to it.
Whether you end up on LeadPages, ELPP, or something else entirely, the underlying discipline is the same: build more than one option, and let actual opt-in data make the call instead of a badge that says highest converting.

Another really cool service you can use to create your landing pages, and not only landing pages, but you can create sales pages, you know, opt-in pages, webinar pages, thank you pages, upsell, you can literally create the entire funnel if you wanted to. It’s called Elite Pages, okay, leadpages.net. I’m actually gonna include the link right below this video if you want to check it out. Now this is a paid platform, I think it’s starts out at like $37 a month if I’m not mistaking, and there is also like a $67 pro version. To use this, you know, if you want to check it out, but it’s actually pretty, pretty easy to use as well.
So they give you a whole bunch of templates here, this is the back office. I, you know, I obviously have an account, so if I go to, let’s say I want to create an opt-in page, right, there is 34 templates right now, as you can see, okay? And see what’s cool about this is I can actually sort these templates based on the highest converting, you know, the highest converting, you know, to show up the highest converting pages at the top, right? So what, what these guys are doing is they are pulling users for different style and different versions of landing pages, and they’re tracking opt-in rates, and, and you know, which one converts the best, you know, they’re gonna display that first, all right?
So if you want to, to play with it, now I will warn you though, don’t fall for that too easily, all right? Sometimes I found, like, for example, when you look at the page, well, you know, we click on this template right here, I mean, it’s pretty ugly, okay? It’s a lot of text, you know, a lot of form. But you know, sometimes, sometimes, if you, if you, if you fall for the, you know, for, for selecting the, the first one that shows up as the highest converting, a lot of times what I found is that it’s not going to actually be the, the actual one that converts the highest, okay? So just kind of, you know, use your judgment on that.
And if you want to create a three和位置上去 landing page here, it’s actually really, really simple. I don’t think I actually need to do an entire tutorial on how to do that, just because, let’s say, when we go to opt-in pages here, time, see, when you go to, you know, when you go out and take a look at the different templates here, let’s say this one right, you can actually watch a tutorial right, and how to do that, and how to create a landing page, and they actually walk you through how to create a landing page, you know, a landing page using, you know, the leadpages.net. They actually walk you through their system, okay? Pretty self-explanatory. But again, they have tutorials on, on virtually all of these templates, so you can watch it. I just don’t want to take a whole bunch of your time here to show you something that, that, you know, you will probably be watching anyways when you get to the, you know, to the leadpages.net, okay?
But you can also create webinar pages here, something pretty cool, you know, they got different templates here. You can create thank you pages here, again, pretty something you might want to check out. I, this is something I definitely recommend, you know, if you want to take a look. You can create launch pages, you know, cart, and other custom, I mean, they got a whole bunch of stuff here. Again, it is paid. Do I think it’s worth it? Yes, you know, if, if, if you, if you’re going to pay for it, I’d say go use it, you know, create like a bunch of them and split test them, in and so you have a lot of data to, you know, when you optimize them, and, and, and so forth, so when you run your traffic, all right?
So yeah, go ahead and if you want to check it out, the link should be right below this video, go ahead and check it out. In the next video, I’m going to show you another platform, one of my favorite, really super easy to use, it’s called Megaphone, and I’ll show you that in the next video.
