Instant Blog Traffic Magic – How To Get More Viewers, Leads and Signups Thru Blog Syndication
You hit publish, drop the link on Facebook, and wait. A day later the post has a handful of views, and at least one of them was you. So you write another one, because someone told you the secret was consistency, and the exact same thing happens again.
This session of the 15K Formula is where that cycle breaks. Dave Wood opens the webinar by saying there are really only a few things you need to understand to build through blogging, and the previous session covered the first one: creating compelling content that sells. This one covers the second: getting people to actually see it. Then he hands the session to Chris Record, who at the time was working a full-time job ten hours a day, raising two kids, and building his business roughly an hour a night. Everything Chris teaches here fits inside that hour.
As someone publishing posts that nobody’s finding, what you need from this lesson is a routine, not a theory: what to click the moment a post goes live, who to contact, and how much of your working time promotion actually deserves.
Why does the platform you blog on change your results?
Alexa is a third-party company that ranks websites worldwide by traffic, and Chris opens by asking you to guess the top four sites in the United States. The answers: Google, Facebook, YouTube, and Yahoo. Number one is search, number two is social, and number three is a search engine for videos owned by Google. Search engine optimization and social syndication aren’t two tactics on a long list; they are the list.
At the time of this training, the Empower Network blogging platform sat at number 223 in the United States and inside the top 500 websites worldwide, ahead of household names like CNBC, NASA, Dell, Travelocity, and TechCrunch. That matters because the Alexa rating is widely accepted in the internet marketing community as a factor in how Google ranks pages, so a brand-new blogger on a high-authority platform gets a head start a standalone blog would need years to build. From there Chris draws the whole business in one line: the better your blog ranks, the more traffic you get; the more traffic, the more leads; the more leads, the more sales; and the more sales, the closer you get to what you actually want. He kept a picture of the huts at Bora Bora in front of him through his early learning curve, through the times he wanted to quit, and in 2008 he proposed to his girlfriend on that exact beach. Keep your version of that picture close, because the technical parts of this lesson will feel overwhelming without it.
What does promotion actually mean?
Here’s the breakthrough Chris says most people never get, delivered while looking at the like, comment, and share counts under one of his own Facebook posts:
A lot of people will just go post links on Facebook and just, you know, they go, oh, well, I’m posting on Facebook, so I’m promoting it. No, that’s not what that means. These numbers down here on the bottom right, this is what promotion is.
Those three numbers are your report card. If nobody’s liking, commenting, or sharing, you haven’t promoted anything, you’ve just added noise. Chris suggests ten likes, ten comments, and ten shares as an honest target per post.
Then he shows what the report card looks like when everything lines up. On September 10th, 2012, GoDaddy went down and the news broke that it had been hacked. Chris treated the trending story as an opportunity: he wrote a blog post in about twenty minutes, a short piece built from a screenshot of the hacker’s tweet plus links to news articles with brief quoted excerpts, giving readers the story without duplicating content. He spent about fifteen more minutes promoting it to his Facebook network, pushing the GoDaddy information hard rather than his business, because that’s what his warm market cared about that day. The post drew 95 likes, 42 comments, and 99 shares, and each share put it in front of that person’s entire friends list. Because he was early on a breaking story, Google ranked the post near the top for the search everyone was suddenly typing, and within twelve hours it had brought in 5,000 visitors from Google alone, around 50 opt-in leads, and a string of sign-ups that day, including an old friend he never would have contacted directly. A week later the giant news outlets owned that search term, but it didn’t matter. He got there first.
What’s the routine after every single post?
The first step takes two minutes: the moment a post is published, click every social syndication button on it, one by one, sending it to Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus, and everywhere else you’re logged in. Chris does it live on the webinar just to show how fast it is.
For extra push on a good post, he uses two tools. The first is Empire Avenue, a free social network that scores your social influence like a stock price and lets you run missions, paying other users in the site’s play money to like, share, and comment on a specific link. Chris gives it a hard rule: it can be a huge time suck, so he never spends more than fifteen minutes a day there. The second is Fiverr, where five dollars buys promotion gigs like tweets or likes to give a page some initial juice. He keeps it away from his personal profile, using it only on pages and posts. Fiverr also hides a content shortcut: record a ten-minute video, pay five dollars to have it transcribed, and you’ve got an original blog post ready to clean up and publish.
Titles do the rest of the work. Chris keeps a for-fun post of funny happy birthday videos ranking near the top of Google, and the method was nothing more than rewriting bland video titles into keyword-rich, long-tail ones, so a clip titled “Happy Birthday” became “Happy Birthday Three Dancing Robots 3D Animation.” That’s on-page SEO. Off-page SEO is the recurring promotion pointing at the post, which for that article is as simple as sharing it, with a personal note, whenever a friend has a birthday. And every post goes to your email list the day you write it, because your list and your social network are the only traffic you control instantly. Google moves on its own schedule; your list doesn’t. Another leader on the call, Justin, adds his own instant-traffic habit: join as many targeted Facebook groups as you can and share genuinely relevant posts there, because the comments and buzz feed straight back into your rankings.
How does guest blogging get a new blog ranked?
The heavyweight strategy in this session is link popularity: getting outside links pointing into your blog. Chris’s way in is what he calls the Facebook method. Search a keyword like internet marketing, filter the results by people, optionally filter by city, then open profiles and check the About section for a blog. When you find one, send a short, respectful message: you liked their blog, you’re building link popularity for a new blog of your own, and you’d love to write them a free guest post on any topic they want, which they can approve or reject. He sends two of these live on the webinar in about a minute each.
One early deal shows what’s possible. A friend agreed to take his guest post, and when Chris asked for more links, the friend countered: write it as a two-part series and you’ll get them, plus a spot on the blogroll, which put a link to Chris’s blog on every page of that site. Chris took his time and made the post genuinely valuable, and at the time of this training it sat at number two on Google for its keyword, still sending him an opt-in lead nearly every day and a steady trickle of new sign-ups months after he wrote it. Inside each guest post he linked to his own inside articles, to his landing pages, and to his other guest posts, and when he needed a link target that didn’t exist yet, he published a short placeholder post on his own blog first and improved it later. Write your guest posts in a document first, because if one blogger passes, you shop the same post to the next one, and if nobody takes it, it goes on your own blog. There’s never wasted effort.
If you’re thinking you’re not expert enough for any of this, Dave’s answer is that you don’t need to be. Chris wrote a well-received post about an advanced copywriting topic he freely admits Dave understands better, simply by studying Dave’s article, quoting it, adding examples, and teaching what he’d just learned. That’s also Dave’s formula for actually becoming an expert: study, do, teach. Study something for even fifteen minutes a day, turn your car into a drive-time university, implement what you learn, and write about it like you’re the teacher. As Dave puts it, “when you teach what you’re learning, and you do it every single day, you can’t do that for an hour a day without being an expert in six months.”
The assignments from this session, exactly as Dave and Chris gave them:
- Write one blog post every day for the next seven days, using the compelling-content and call-to-action methods from the previous lesson.
- The moment each post is live, click every social syndication button and email the post to your list, however small it is.
- Spend more time promoting each post than you spent writing it. When Dave started with no money, his ratio was eight to one in favor of promotion.
- Contact 20 people this week using the Facebook method, and aim to land two or three guest posts from the ones who respond.
- Cap each post, including guest posts, at one hour, because past that point you’re losing time you should be spending on promotion.
The full lesson goes considerably further than what’s covered here: the live walkthrough of Empire Avenue missions, the complete guest-post examples link by link, and the back-and-forth where Dave and Chris set the exact outreach numbers. This lesson is part of the 15K Formula. The entire course, including this lesson and everything built on top of it, is available for $99 through the 15K Formula course.
Take the last post you published, click every syndication button on it, send it to your list, and then message five people through the Facebook method before you write anything new.

Hello folks, this is Dave Wood. We do apologize for getting started about five minutes late here. We accidentally ended the webinar, so we wanted to make sure everybody had a chance to dial back in when we restarted it. Thanks for coming back on.
And I'm excited about today, and the reason I'm excited guys is because there's only a few things that you really need to know to make a lot of money from blogging. Last week we covered part one, which is being able to create compelling content that sells. I think that's the most important thing to understand just because a lot of people make a lot of mistakes and fumble around there. Just real quick, just for some feedback.
How many of you guys were on last week's webinar? There's a little Q&A thing where you can ask questions over on the right, and got a massive amount of value from it. How many people thought last week's webinar, by itself, was worth over a thousand dollars? How many people think that? Yeah, just write your comments in.
I was blown away and I thought it was great. And the cool thing is we're just starting. We're going to go through blogging and free strategies. We're going to go through some video marketing and social syndication strategies next week, after we cover some syndication strategies this week.
But all you need to know to make money blogging is what we covered last week and what we're going to cover next week. Okay, now there's some advanced things we're going to teach you as we go along. But all you need to know to make money blogging are these two things. And so a lot of you guys, you're here and there's different categories of people.
And I know there's a lot of people who are here who are kind of like I was when I started, where you've got to just take massive action and you've got to get results. Now in your business, you've got to get results now, and you don't have a lot of money. Maybe you put up the last money you had for business to just get on the webinars. Maybe you did that, right? How many people stretched a little bit to be able to get on these webinars?
Just say yes if you stretched just a little bit, over in the comments, to get on here. Yeah, you stretched a little bit to get on here. And so for you guys, you need to go make some money, and you need to make some money now, okay? Now what I want you to do, for those of you who are in that situation, is I want to take what we learned last week and this week and take it absolutely seriously. Absolutely seriously.
And if we say write two blog posts a day and you're full-time and you need to make money, write four and do twice as much. Do what you got to do to take action. So without any further ado, I want to introduce Chris again. Now, this is a cool thing, actually, that I like about Chris is he's just a giver, you know what I mean? Some people have different personalities.
There's nothing wrong with not being as much of a giver as Chris is. I mean, some people kind of keep to themselves. You know, he sent me an email earlier today, and I was chit-chatting back and forth. And, you know, he said, "Dave, let me know what I can do to help.
I'm here to serve." And he's here to serve his team and also anybody else in Empower Network. And so we're lucky to have him on board. And I'm just going to turn it over to you, Chris. Man, you did a great job.
And you have, like, five of the top six people in the company that are in the competition on your team. So congratulations on that. That just shows that you're a giver and you've got a huge heart for people, which is what Empower Network is really all about — is empowering people. So without any further ado, man, over to you.
And like I said, I might need to cut out right before the end of the webinar. So if I do, just feel free to close it off. And if I'm still on, I'll come on and give some final thoughts. But appreciate you, brother. Over to you.
No problem, I appreciate that introduction. Yeah, you know, I learned a long time ago that if you want to rise to the top, you serve your way to the top. Be a servant leader and create culture and community. And that's what I've been trying to do here with Empower Network.
And, you know, yeah, that's pretty exciting. It's nice to have five out of the top six on my team, on the top of the leaderboard there. Now, granted, it's only a week into the contest, so I don't want to feel too on top of the world. It's still cool.
It's going to get a little tighter as people realize things are going to get a little tighter. The 30,000 is on the line. But it's still cool, you know what I mean? Five out of six isn't bad.
Just saying. It's totally cool. If it wasn't for Rob Ford, man, I'm going to have to have a little conversation with Rob and tell him to go take a one-week vacation on me to Hawaii or something like that. Get him out of there for a little bit. But, yeah, man, that's exciting.
I'm all about trying to see other people succeed. You know, it's something that people ask me — beyond the money, what is it beyond the money for you, Chris? Well, it's really just paying it forward and trying to empower people's lives. One of the things that attracted me to Empower Network, odd enough, is the name.
I think the name is just brilliant. It's a word that I would love to say every single day of my life — the word empower. It's just empowering to say it. It's empowering to write it. It's empowering to think it.
And I think that if we all contributed to empowering other people around us, not only in finances but in friendships and family and faith and fitness and every other F-word you could think of — if you just went out there and empowered people, I think that would be a great thing. I think that would just fill your life with so much more joy.
At the end of the day, when you lay your head down on the pillow and go to sleep, you're going to go to sleep good. You're going to rest well because you know that you're out there creating some impact and some change in the world. And, David, you're doing that. You're doing that in a major way. I just want to tell a quick story.
I'm all about nuts and bolts, so don't worry about it — I'm going to get into some training. I'm a very nuts-and-bolts type of a guy. David will vouch for that, with outlines. I like to be to the minute.
But I really want to start off with a couple of thoughts here before I get into these slides and the screen flow. Now, some of the thoughts here — with what we have going on here with Empower Network, I'm going to tell you a real-life experience, just a real experience that I can relate to everybody, and you can use this as a testimonial of how powerful this system is. I have a background in Internet marketing. Now, granted, I didn't know everything, but I wasn't brand new. I wasn't a complete newbie when I saw this.
And people ask me, you know, Chris, how good is the education really? I mean, come on, I've bought all the guru crap out there. I've done all these seminars and stuff.
I mean, really, honestly, have you really even learned anything? Now, every time they ask that, I don't even know where to begin of all the things that I've learned. I've been with this company less than six months, and I feel like I've gotten the biggest boot camp in Internet marketing that I've experienced ever. And I'm going to give you a real experience of what happened just last week. We're doing these webinars live.
So last Thursday I came on, and David wanted me to do sort of a viral blogging webinar, content creation, content mastery, and just kind of make things a little bit more compelling with a couple other guest speakers. And you know what? I thought I did a pretty good job. I was like patting myself on the back going, hey, Chris, you shared what you knew. And then David took over at the end of my session.
David took over, and I just sat back, popped open a beer, and put my legs up, and I'm feeling good. And then David started sharing some of his take on it. And, you know, definitely didn't take away anything from me, but he started sharing some things that literally just opened my mind completely — he started sharing about some different types of calls to action and just different ways that you can position that and different ways that you can be more compelling. And I'm sitting here going, holy smokes, I wish I would have known that before my presentation.
I would have included all that. It makes my calls to action like I'm a beginner in this game. So I went out and, literally just following what he was teaching me right there in that webinar, I got inspired and went out and started doing that. I went out and started blogging differently.
And in the last seven days, I feel like my effectiveness in blogging has doubled. Okay, this is a real-life testimonial here. I feel like I've gone all the way up until this point to the point where David would trust me in front of thousands and thousands of people to teach them how to blog. And then, within a week later, just applying what he taught in just five minutes, my blogging skills had literally doubled. I feel like I could be so much more compelling.
I feel like I could have a stronger call to action. You know what's funny? I feel like I actually really know what I'm doing. You know that moment where everything clicks and you just get it? That was me just listening to David Wood.
And so I want to tell you right now, it's a constant and never-ending improvement in your life. You're always growing. Keep growing, keep looking for opportunities to learn, because I got inspired and went out there. And then I see David also got inspired. David Wood went out and put a couple blog posts out about direct calls to action and indirect calls to action.
And I just thought it was so brilliant that he was sharing that out there with the world. And I'm telling you, it's like just learning how to be able to position your calls to action, how to be able to be more compelling in your blog posts, how to be able to be more persuasive with your words. These are strategies that you can take with you and apply them in every area of your business and every type of business. And every business owner from all over the world, no matter what their company is, could be learning these strategies. For some people, this can make them millions of dollars.
Okay, that's how — I just want to set this foundation, that's how powerful this training is. So I'm a beginner in the game, all right, compared to where I'm going to be.
But I'm going to be an expert because of Empower Network, because Empower Network is empowering me. Okay, so I hope you don't mind learning from somebody who's in the learning process himself. But with that little intro there, I want to go ahead and get started on today's presentation. So let's do it. Let's jump into some slides, and then I'm going to show you some real-life examples.
We're going to go live on the web, and we're just going to have some fun today. Okay? So we're going to talk about how to drive massive traffic to your Empower Network viral blogging system. We're going to talk about how to do that with a variety of things, maybe some SEO, some ninja strategies that I have up my sleeve.
We're also going to talk about some social syndication. And I'm just going to share stuff as it comes to my mind and really just try to unload on you. Now, if you were on my last webinar, you know I can talk fast. So the good thing is you can pause, you can rewind, you can take notes. The faster I talk, the more information you get in this — you know, whatever it is, 90 minutes, 60 minutes, whatever it ends up being.
So you should not mind that I talk fast. Just pay attention, take notes if you can, and let's go. All right, first I want to start with a foundation. And the reason I like starting with a foundation is that we have all types of people on this webinar.
We have beginners, we have intermediate, we have advanced. We have people that are better than me at all this, and they're sitting here just trying to see if one little thing I say might be of interest to them. We've got everybody on this webinar. So let's start with a basic foundation and get that out of the way. Okay?
Why is it that Empower Network blogs rank so well in Google? Okay, one of the main reasons is Alexa. What Alexa is, is a third-party company that ranks traffic on blogs worldwide, and then orders them based on that traffic. So it's basically got some software, it detects the traffic.
Now, it can't detect all traffic. Okay, they have their own toolbar and their own algorithm and their own rating system, but it's sort of the authority site. It's sort of one of the go-to sites, if you will, to kind of see how other sites are doing. So I got a question for you before I start here.
I want you to take a guess at what you think the top four sites are in the United States based on web traffic. And I'm going to show you, but I just want you to sit — don't cheat, don't look it up, challenge yourself. Right now, I want you to think of four sites, and I want you to try to guess the order. Okay, what do you think the top four sites are in the United States based on web traffic?
All right, let's look at number one — Google. Now, this would be pretty easy, it's pretty obvious.
You know, Google's dominating. It's where people go when they want to do something on the web. When you don't know what you want to do, you go to Google. So they've made a name for themselves. They've branded themselves.
Google's the number one ranked site, according to Alexa. Number two, Facebook. And that's because of social. So right off the bat, number one and number two are SEO and social.
So what are we going to talk about today? Search engine optimization and social media syndication. Number three, YouTube. YouTube is basically a search engine for videos, and it's owned by Google. So really, Google and YouTube, number one and number three, it's all the same company.
And the fact of the matter is that YouTube is its own mini search engine. And you know what? YouTube is the second largest search engine in the world. So when we talk about search engine optimization, you could apply the same strategies even to YouTube videos. And then number four, Yahoo.
Now, Yahoo, I don't know how it's hanging out there. I think it's just entertainment and some old school branding. But you've got to give it up for Yahoo. Somehow they're there. I haven't been to Yahoo in ages, but you know what?
They're hanging on. In fact, I did this slide a little while ago. They might have even been bumped out by now. But I think Empower Network is going to bump them out, right? So that should be our goal right there — Yahoo, as in W-H-O, and instead, Empower Network.
That would be pretty awesome. So where does Empower Network rank on this traffic list? Well, here we go. I'm going to Alexa. I just took this screenshot right before this meeting.
So it's just something to be proud of. We ranked number 223 in the United States, in all websites in the United States based on traffic — we're number 223 out of every single website. That's one of the powerful things about this viral blogging system. And we're number 481 worldwide.
Listen, folks, we're in the top 500 websites worldwide. So that is the foundation. That's one of the core elements of what makes the Empower Network such a powerful viral blogging system. Now, you need to know this as a foundation, because if you were to go out and try to start a new blog on your own, and try to rank using these strategies, you could stand a chance. But by doing it on the Empower Network blogging platform, you stand a greater chance, because Alexa is one of the factors that goes into search engine optimization.
So here's a cool little thing that I put together. Empower Network is ahead of many popular sites with that ranking. Let's take a look at who we're ahead of just on this list according to Alexa. We're ahead of CNBC.com. We're ahead of NASA, Kayak.com, Dell, Travelocity.
Politico, Fandango, Nordstrom, Mashable.com, TechCrunch.com, and many other well-known, highly visited websites. So you know what? You should get fired up about the tools and resources that they put together. And listen, who would have known that this guy, David Wood, and his partner, David Sharp, could put together a system that would go so viral that we could be, in terms of traffic on Alexa, ranked above all of these sites. Now, this should get you excited.
This should get you fired up — not only to go out there and promote as marketers, but also to really say, hey, you know what, if I crack the code here on being able to drive traffic to my blog, David Wood has already put together the basics. David Wood has already provided the platform that can rank well. I just need to fill in the missing pieces, the missing puzzle pieces.
So listen, why is all this important to you? It's because one of the big factors that Google considers when ranking a blog or website is the Alexa rating. They put that into their algorithm. Now, Google doesn't share that algorithm with us, but it's pretty widely accepted in the internet marketing community that the Alexa ranking is a major factor there. The higher your Alexa ranking, the more likely you are to rank well in search results.
This is just one of the many factors that are considered for SEO. But with the Empower Network blogs, it's the one that you don't have to worry about, like we're saying. Now, that right there is one of the main reasons that attracted me. I told you earlier the name was very attractive, but one of the main reasons was that Alexa ranking, knowing that I could have a head start, a fast start. So people that are brand new can have a head start, can have a jump in the game just through this viral blogging system.
Now, the better your blog is going to rank, the more traffic you're going to get. So let's look at this equation here. The better you get your blog ranking, the more traffic you get. The more traffic you get, the more leads you get. The more leads you get, the more sales you get.
The more sales you get, well, guess what? You get what you want in life. And what's important is that when you're talking about technology, when you're talking about how to, when you're talking about the intricacies of how to promote your blog and these different social media sites, it can become overwhelming. At times, it can maybe even feel complicated.
So what I want to do is help you anchor those thoughts with beautiful pictures like this. I want you, when times get tough or when you feel complicated or when you feel overwhelmed or when you feel like you're not learning or you've hit a wall, I want you to think about your why. I want you to think about what it would be like if you could create enough success with your blogging system and with all these tools that are here, if you could create enough success that you could be anywhere in the world, anywhere that has a wireless internet connection or even a 3G or 4G, and not have to worry about it. How would you like to wake up in one of these little huts out here — this is Bora — and be able to wake up in the morning, rise and shine with no alarm clock, and be able to pull out your laptop and sit on a little couch out there and basically shoot like a little video, post it to your blog, and just say how much you're enjoying it out there, and then just go jump right off your porch there, right into the water, swim around in that crystal blue water, because you paid attention to what's being taught here.
You paid attention. You applied it. You didn't give up. You weren't expecting to get rich tomorrow, but your expectation was that if you follow the system, you can create results for yourself. Now, this picture is powerful for me, and this is a true story, because when I first got started in internet marketing, this is the kind of dreams, this is the kind of vision that really kept me going.
There were times where I wanted to quit, because you hit walls. It's a whole new learning curve, okay? And there were times I wanted to quit, but I kept visions like this in front of me, and guess what — in 2008, I ended up going out to Bora with my girlfriend at the time and proposing to her right there on that white sandy beach with that crystal blue water. She ended up becoming my wife.
We ended up having a beautiful family. And I look back and go, wow, I used to vision this stuff, and I stuck with it long enough without giving up that it actually came to fruition — a self-fulfilling prophecy, if you will. And so I want to put this vision out there to get you inspired to do the same thing, okay? In the last 15K Formula training, I covered the three C's of marketing.
I talked about how to create traffic, capture leads, and convert sales. So today I want to focus on social syndication strategies to drive massive traffic to your Empower Network blog. Okay, this is the goal of today, this is what I want to focus on. And first, I want you to think outside of the box.
I don't want you to think with any sort of limited thinking. I want you to be completely open to new tools, new resources, new ideas that maybe you never knew before, okay? So with that being said, let's get started. The first thing I want to do is talk to you about a little recap on last webinar.
On the last webinar, we talked a lot about setting up your blog for success. But you know what? This webinar inspired me to put together a little bit more training. I don't want to go over it here now, but I want to tell you, for anybody that's interested, I basically published more videos on how to set up your blog. And these are very generic videos, 15 videos, a step-by-step blogging setup guide for Empower Network.
Okay, so right there, I just put it on my blog, a step-by-step blogging guide. So if anybody really feels like there was some things I didn't cover, or some things that maybe I covered in two minutes that maybe you need a little bit longer on, I put together this. And this used to be just a private training that I had, and I felt like just paying it forward and serving the team, so I decided to just make it available and do that. So — quick start guide to setting up your Empower Network blog. So these are YouTube videos.
You can find them on YouTube or you can find them on my blog. You could watch all 15 videos one at a time, or you could just sit back and watch this — I put together a nifty little playlist just so anybody can watch them. Okay, and then the other thing I told you about was I got inspired from David Wood. David Wood wrote an article about adverbial clauses, how to use indirect suggestion patterns to create more influence in sales.
And it was one of the most brilliant articles that I've read in a long time. And I just got to give props to David Wood because he's just got so much wisdom, and I love the fact that he's out there sharing it. And so I basically wrote sort of my own version of the article as well, because one of the secrets I'm going to teach you right now is one of the ways that you can learn the best. Okay, this is a secret I learned a long time ago about learning — how to learn like a pro. If you're just sitting back taking in information, you're only going to absorb a certain amount.
Okay, but so how do people really absorb more? How can you absorb more information you're learning? Well, if you knew that you had to turn around tomorrow and teach what you learned today to your whole team, well, guess what — you would be taking super notes.
Let's say you had to teach this whole training to your team, and you had to do it without anything, just what you learned from the live event. Okay, that's how I go into all training. Every time that I'm sitting down learning anything, I learn as though I'm going to be the teacher. I learn as though I consider myself sort of like a substitute teacher.
If David Wood was going to give a webinar on creating a compelling call to action and he said, "Hey, Chris, man, I'm in Costa Rica, I got a bad Internet signal, can you fill in for me? I need you to talk about how to create a compelling call to action." Well, I want to be able to say yes. I want to be ready.
So when you learn something, you want to be ready to teach it, because you learn, and then you do, and then you teach, and then you become. And when you turn around and teach something to somebody else, you're going to actually learn more. Case in point, I'm going to learn more right now teaching you than I would learn sitting on the other side listening. When you're the teacher, you're actually learning more. I'm sure anybody can relate to this.
I'm sure David Wood can relate. When he's teaching, when he's on fire and ideas are coming to his mind, he's probably thinking in his mind like, whoa, that was a pretty cool thought. Wow, where did that come from? That was brilliant. He's probably wanting to take notes on his own things that he's saying himself, because that's how it gets.
You get to the point where you want to be the teacher. So what I did was, when I saw this, I knew I wanted to learn this. So the number one way I wanted to learn this was I said, you know, I'm going to write a blog post about it, and I really want to soak this up. So I'm going to write my own version, because when I blog about it, I'm teaching it. And so what I did was I went and wrote my own blog.
I wrote a blog post, kind of followed sort of the pattern, talked about his different stuff, even quoted a couple things from his page about different things to do, and gave certain examples and just different things, and also had a little bit of fun with the blog — I used a little highlight thing, just having some fun stuff with it. So this is an example right here of really kind of taking it to the next level, and you don't want to just straight up copy something, but you want to make it your own. But that's what I wanted to do — I wanted to learn.
So I just wanted to say I got pretty inspired by that. I wanted to share that real quick because I just love it. I just love learning, and I love the fact that these 15K Formula webinars are actually teaching me. I'm going to go from here and be able to make seven figures in my business because of the things that I'm learning from this. So here's another thing I want to do.
I like numbers, I'm a stats guy, I track a lot of different things. I just want to kind of show you a few different things. This is like a week in the life of an Empower Network blog.
I just want to take a look at a couple of things. Now, this isn't like a super high traffic blog, it's decent. But I just want to kind of look at a couple of things. These are the Empower Network stats for my blog.
Basically, in a given day, a couple thousand page views, 1,500 page views or whatever. But, you know, 63% are returning visitors, 36% are new visitors. This is really exciting. I do a lot of promotion outside of just Google. But I'll show you that too.
I'll show you kind of how that goes. Average duration, six minutes that people are staying on the site. It's pretty awesome. Traffic sources — 60.7% traffic coming from search, and then 28% coming from referral, and then direct traffic. So I'm doing a few different things to be able to promote.
So I just kind of wanted to show that. Now, I also want to show this technique. This is called the spike technique. And this is where, in a given week, you could do something where your traffic spikes. In this example, nearly 6,000 page views in a single day.
And I'm going to show you — in fact, that's what I'm going to lead with right now. I'm going to lead with kind of a strategy on how to spike content through social media syndication, which is what we're going to start with in SEO. I'm going to give you a case study because I think that's the best way to learn — actual real results, real things happening. So here's a real story. On September 10th, GoDaddy — well, I don't even know if it got hacked, right?
But GoDaddy was down. In the news, all the news outlets were starting to say that it got hacked by Microsoft. And they're basically saying GoDaddy was down. So, you know, a million sites or so were affected. I don't know how many websites were affected, but emails were down.
People were using GoDaddy. So my company that I work with full time used GoDaddy email, so our email went down. And then I was also using a Kajabi site, a membership site for my team here and Empower, and that site was down.
So I got a couple texts that said, hey, the email is down from the company, and then a couple more texts that said, hey, the website's down. So news hits the scene. As soon as news hit the scene, I went ahead and promoted it.
I said, I took that as, hey, here's an opportunity. Now, in the last webinar, I talked about this, and I said I was going to share this story. So here's an opportunity. What I did was I basically created a blog post on Empower Network. Now, at the time, we didn't have the social media bar.
Okay, this was prior to the social media bar. I knew how to do it, though, so I had created my own Purpose-Driven Professionals. It was just a temporary site I had put up using the same technology I did when I created Social Media Bar. This was just for me, though.
I wasn't sharing this with anybody. But this was a way that I was able to post my Empower Network links on Facebook and also have them look really good. So I just went and grabbed a graphic here that looked really good — GoDaddy hacked. I gave some details here. And then basically a little description.
So a couple of things I want to show. This post got 95 likes, okay, 42 comments, and 99 shares. Now, these are important numbers. So these three — when we're talking about social media syndication, when you share something on Facebook, those are really the three things that you're really looking at there. How many likes are you getting?
How many comments are you getting? And how many shares are you getting? Now, eventually, when you get a big following like David Wood, who has just thousands and thousands of followers, thousands and thousands of subscribers who are all very, very amped on everything he has to say, it becomes a little bit easier. And when you become a huge celebrity, it becomes very, very easy. But when you're brand new, getting those numbers up, you've got to do things to sort of create that.
You've got to sort of ignite the social media algorithm, if you will. So I'm going to give you a hint — I didn't just post this and let it go. I didn't just, boom, post it and, oh, I hope somebody reads it. See, this is actually not even a little hint.
I apologize, this is a massive breakthrough if you get this. A lot of people will just go post links on Facebook and think, oh, well, I'm posting on Facebook, so I'm promoting it. No, that's not what that means. These numbers down here on the bottom right, this is what promotion is.
Promotion is not posting your link on Facebook. This right here is your accountability and your report card. David Wood loves when I say credit card because it just plants a subconscious thought in your mind that you're going to be pulling out your credit card in a minute.
So I don't think he minds that Freudian slip. But this is your report card down here. And it doesn't have to be this high — I've had some that are a lot higher, some that are a lot lower. But I think good numbers to shoot for would be like 10-10-10, right?
That would just be a good number to shoot for, 10-10-10. So when you're brand new, go, hey, when I make a post, how can I get people there? Otherwise, what's the purpose of posting on Facebook if nobody's liking it, nobody's commenting, and nobody's sharing? What is the purpose? You're basically filling Facebook with stuff.
You're just creating noise. So that's a huge breakthrough that I want everybody to get here. So what I did was I basically posted this. This linked to my Empower Network blog post about it. So let's go back, and I'm going to show it to you right now.
This was the blog post that I wrote. This was September 10th. GoDaddy hacked on 9-10-2012, servers down, emails not working, troubleshooting errors, and more. Okay, so I wrote this.
I guess I could give you the link, PurposeDrivenProfessionals.com slash GoDaddy hacked. Let's look at that one real quick. I didn't even think about using that one — that one might be a little bit better to use. Okay.
Now it's the same one. I guess I just wanted to show you — see, now the social media bar is so much cooler because it brings up all the social media icons on top, it's just way cooler. Here, I just used the little frame up there.
So it's really just the same site. So you see, when I promoted that, it just went here. So the first thing I did — back on September 10th, I did not know about these calls to action that David Wood just taught me so much about. So I could have done so much better. But I basically had two calls to action inside the blog post.
Obviously, there's tons of calls to action around here. But there's just one banner here with my own picture on it and one banner here. So that was it. What I did was I wrote a post. There's a little sentence here, GoDaddy's been hacked.
I took a screenshot of Twitter, of the person saying they hacked GoDaddy. And then, servers down, emails down, websites down, updates — here's some tech articles.
And then what I did was I linked to an article and did a quote. Linked to an article, did a quote. Linked to an article, did a quote. And I think that's a really kind of cool way to do it, because you're not necessarily copying content.
You're just using excerpts, small little excerpts. And I think that's good — you don't want to just copy content because that creates duplicate content and it can hurt your blog. But you do.
So basically it wasn't much of a post but it had some decent content. Not even a strong call to action. Now, here's what happened though.
When I did that promotion, I did it on my Facebook profile. And all this activity here was happening for a few reasons. But a lot of this was people that were in my friends list. Now this is an important thing — a lot of us join Empower Network as affiliates.
And we don't necessarily want to go contact our friends and family. And that's totally cool, because you can do whatever you want to do. I don't even really care what you want to do — you can do anything you want to do.
But a lot of us have a warm market or an extended market on Facebook. So I find it very valuable to blog on Empower Network about stuff that my network would be interested in, like this. And then I share it with my network. And I'm not really promoting Empower Network hard.
I'm promoting this information about GoDaddy hard. And then they're going there. They're getting the information they want. And then a lot of people are going, oh wow, what's this business that you're in? So because of this, right off the bat, right when I posted it, I started getting some initial messages of people asking about Empower Network.
Right off the bat. Now, what happened is the statistics were crazy. So I just did that social media promotion, and I'm going to show you how I did it.
But instantly people were contacting me. Next thing I knew, I was checking my Aweber list, and I was getting a ton of leads. I was not only getting leads from these links here, which come in every single day — I don't know how to put tracking code on these.
Maybe a week from now I'll learn how to. But I do know how to put tracking code on all your banners here, on all the banners that you do. Usually you could just put a keyword at the end of your link if you're using like an Empower Network page.
But we'll go into that another time, or maybe I'll show you at the end of this webinar. But I put tracking so I knew what was coming from this page.
And I started getting leads — I mean, they were pouring in. I think in one day, when it was all said and done, I got about 40 leads just from this banner, maybe this one and this one down here. So about 40 opt-ins.
So you see, I was promoting stuff that had to do with GoDaddy, and had to do with it being down. And then I was basically just promoting on social media saying, hey, share this with everybody. Click the share button and let your friends on Facebook know.
See, 99 people shared. Now, this is the viral factor. These are the stats I got myself, but 99 people shared, and these are not counting all the likes and comments that they got.
And it's not counting — all those likes and comments might have added up to 1,000 likes, and that might have added up to several hundred comments. And it was all commenting and liking on their profiles.
But about this — people were clicking this link. So that's something that's called the viral factor. When you can get people sharing your content, and then you can create something compelling.
That people want to talk about, it can create a lot of activity. So this is trending news, promoting that kind of stuff. Now, what did this equate to in terms of sales?
Well, I started getting sales that day, between paid and unpaid members that signed up — it was about 10 that day, which for me doing no paid advertising at all, was pretty good.
10 sign-ups in a single day. I mean, I don't really care who you are, 10 sign-ups a day is not a bad number to shoot for if you're consistent with it. So I got about 10 sign-ups that day.
A few of them are unpaid members. But aside from those 10 sign-ups, I actually had a few of them buy the inner circle as well, and one of them went all in.
Now, the person that bought and went all in was somebody who was in my warm market, on my Facebook group. They were in my Facebook friends. But it's somebody honestly that I never would have contacted.
It was an old friend. They happened to get into a technology business, and their email went down. And sure enough, they're like, hey, let me check this out. And then that person saw what was going on.
And they said that they had heard about Empower Network when it first launched, but thought that it had gone out of business. And they said, wow, I didn't know Empower Network was still around.
And they said they didn't think it would still be around. And I said, yeah, not only is it around, but it's going like crazy. And they went all in.
On that day, on the spot. So that ended up being — when it was all said and done — about 50 opt-in leads that day.
From an article that really took me about 15 minutes to write, maybe 20 minutes, and about another 15 minutes to promote.
I love case studies, because this is real. This really happened. It's not like some dude on an infomercial that you don't know if you can trust or not. I mean, this just really happened.
Maybe you don't know me, so maybe you're going, whatever. But it happened to me, so at least I believe myself. And you can gather your own decision.
But let me show you a tool that I use. Now, this is one tool that's in my tool belt. This is a site that really nobody knows about. And I don't want everybody to go and abuse this tool.
Empower Network is so strong, we have so many people — let's get out there and let's do some great things. But this is one of the tools in my tool belt.
It's a site called Empire Avenue. You know, it's funny, I actually sometimes get the two mixed up, Empower Network and Empire Avenue. But Empire Avenue is a free site to join.
And what it does is you basically hook up all of your — you socially syndicate all your sites. You hook up your Facebook, your Twitter, your LinkedIn.
Whatever you have, and you basically hook them all up. And what this does is this system starts rating you based on your social influence.
So when you post stuff on Facebook, it factors in how many people like your stuff, and how many times you post, and what the value of your engagement is. It basically measures engagement.
So it's kind of like — I joined this site just as a scorecard for my engagement, just so I kind of had a clue. And it gives you sort of like a stock price and a stock value, kind of like a fake stock value.
Like, my share price went from 245 up to, you know, whatever it is now, 260, 263. So you start off low and you get up. Now, the reason I like this is because it kind of syndicates the content a little bit.
But more importantly than that is that they have different ways to be able to network. You can message people and network. I've got several people on board as well just from networking in here. Like even this person here.
Mick Meisner, I see, just posted three hours ago, is in my network. So there's a tool up here called missions. And you can go over to these missions here.
And what happens is, the way this site works is that you buy and sell other people's stock — basically their fake social media currency. It's just fake money basically. And you can buy and sell other people's stock.
So this guy here is saying 5000 Eves — that's like money. I'll give you like 5000 bucks to share this post. I'll give you 5000 bucks to like this Facebook page.
Now, what can you do with that 5000 bucks? You can buy stock. And if you buy somebody's stock and it goes up in value, you make a bunch of money.
So I'm going to show you — you want to collect, it's kind of like a social gaming thing, you want to collect money. I've got 85 million dollars here in my available bank balance.
You want to collect money, and it's just sort of like a game. I don't really have the time to explain it on this webinar, but I'll just give it a basic high-end thing, which is this.
It's a social media syndication tool that's out there. It's free. It's not that difficult to use. But I will give you a couple of rules of thumb about it. Number one.
It could be a time suck. It could be a huge time suck, and I'm not a fan of anything that sucks the living time out of me. I'm a fan of life.
I'm a fan of my time, so I don't want to give it away easily. So I'm going to encourage you — don't get sucked into something that's free and you don't make money from it.
You know what I mean — that just doesn't make sense. If you're going to get sucked into something, get sucked into something that makes you a bunch of money, and gets you financially free.
Get sucked into that. But don't get sucked into this. I never really spent more than like 15 minutes a day on the site. What I did was I came in and I'd spend like 15 minutes a day.
Just come in here, pop in here, and what I'd do is, in the beginning, I'd just spend all my money — I would just buy other people's shares and just wait for it to go up.
And every day the people would buy my shares. Every day I'd just kind of go in and just do maintenance. I'd just go find some profiles and buy some shares. And then eventually, over time, you get money in your bank account.
You can use this money on missions, which means you can give away this money to new players. And this is, by the way, a great way to get money in this game.
You could stack up a lot of money real quick just by going and clicking on these. You could stack up enough so you can go do a bunch of these missions real quick.
And get enough money to actually run your own mission. So let's look at some examples of my missions. You know how to create a compelling call to action on your blog post.
15 minutes. Available zero money. So I gave this mission to 50 people. I gave them 10,000 fake dollars.
Social currency. I gave it to 50, available 50, 10,000. Just to create a — let's see what the actual thing was. How to create a compelling call to action on your blog post. 10,000 Eves. Details.
I just wrote a new blog post about how to create a compelling call to action using two different powerful techniques. Please like and share this post and leave a comment for 10,000 Eves. Thanks for your support.
And then the URL was Social Media Bar, how to create a compelling call to action. So let's look at this here.
So right up on the top — I don't know why there's an error here, let me refresh. This should just be Facebook. There it is.
All right, so how to create a compelling call to action. You can see Google. And I just wrote this post November 13th, so this is two days old.
Okay, G plus — Google plus.
What do we have there? We have 28. I don't know if you can see it, it's really small up there — 28.
One StumbleUpon. One LinkedIn share. 17 tweets. Okay, so that's what we have here.
And here's a pretty cool thing — 3,113 people like this. I did another Facebook promotion, I'll show you in a minute.
But, you know, it's just pretty cool to be able to do that. And then 11 comments down here. So just that one little free thing that I did there basically got me that.
I'm going to tell you right now — when I write a blog post and I'm done, the first thing that I do, the very first thing, is I click both of these.
So let's just walk through this. Let's stop for a minute, make sure you're taking notes here.
I just pause, get ready, because I'm going to walk you through what Chris Record does when he does a blog post, just right off the bat — and this is stuff that just takes me a couple minutes.
So last week I talked to you about how to create compelling content. Now I'm kind of walking you through how to syndicate that content — what to do with it.
So I go through and I click this, and I click this. So right off the bat, you want to click both of these.
So what I'm going to do is walk through all these on top, and I click all these on top.
So that's — on a real simple note — click, click, and that's it.
That's my initial social media syndication. I don't know if I'm logged into any of these sites — let's see.
Sign in, and tweet. There you go, done, close.
So you see, it's not like rocket science. I know how hard it is, you got to be logged into the sites.
And there you go — share, close. How long does that take? You know what I mean?
Like, how long does that take? Share. There you go.
How hard is that? Okay.
So just like that. And that's sort of what I do — I do that right off the bat, because I'm just so fast.
Well, this is one of the ways. I instantly go through and do that. Now, when I'm done doing that, if it's a good blog post — not every blog post — but if it's a good blog post, and I have money over here, you might need to stack this up for a month, or maybe even two, to really get it to the point where you can do some stuff.
But when you get it stacked up, you go over here and you create a mission. Let's — like this one that I just did.
10,000 Eves. Let's see if I got another one to give you an example of.
You just do a mission, and you do a bunch of them. Share and like this Facebook picture for 5,000 Eves.
And if you do 50, you always get them used. And if you do 100, you generally get about half used.
But sometimes you get them all. It's a little bit of a gamble. I got enough money up there where it doesn't matter.
So you can just do a ton of cool stuff.
So just have some fun with it. Like look at this one — Halloween mission, 10,000 Eves. Like and share this Halloween picture on Facebook for 10,000 Eves.
There you go. And look what the picture was.
Empower Network — happy first year anniversary. People in Empower Network have earned over 17 million dollars in commissions. 100% commissions. One year straight.
So see, it was Halloween, and someone on my team made this graphic, and I said, oh.
That graphic's badass. So I posted it on Facebook and did an Empower Network promotion for it on Halloween day.
And 74 people liked it, 47 people shared it, 13 comments. So that's how you kind of go viral.
And you can add a call to action on stuff.
This is just kind of giving you some examples here of what I'm talking about. This is just a very, very cool tool.
So that's sort of what I do. Now the next thing that I might do is go to Fiverr — F-I-V-E-R-R.com, Fiverr.
Most of you know about Fiverr. What I'll do is I'll go to Fiverr if I want to give it a little bit more juice. And on Fiverr, I might be looking for some tweets, or some Facebook likes, or some G-plus juice. So you go over here to Fiverr and you just do a search.
I mean, how hard is it — Facebook likes, Facebook shares, Facebook like website. You just do a search. You log in — first thing you do is, I just connected my Facebook to it. I don't know what the best thing to do is.
I'm going to get all these people, and this stuff is five bucks. Here's a thousand likes — I'll get you a thousand real verified Facebook likes to any web link you provide me within 24 hours for five bucks.
All right, it's five bucks — what do you have to lose? And you got to be a little careful with this kind of stuff, because who knows where a lot of their sources are.
I don't necessarily like using these guys for Facebook, when I post stuff on Facebook on my personal profile. I don't necessarily like using Fiverr for that, because I don't know what kind of weird stuff they might be doing. But if it's outside of my personal profile, if it's on like a fan page, or if it's something like that, or on a website on the internet, I don't mind at all. Just, you know, something like this — express buy, boom, I could buy that for five bucks, and this is kind of what it looks like when you buy something.
You buy for five bucks, as soon as you pay through PayPal, your payment was successfully collected instantly. It says post your link, and then I bought that and asked them a couple questions, whatever. Your order was completed — 3,000 likes, right? And there it is — 3,113 likes. So I got 113 likes sort of organically, and then on this one I fueled it with a few thousand likes right there. Now, you don't need a few thousand — that's why I was asking him, like, hey, can you — I wanted to buy it once to see if he was real, if he could really do that. I wouldn't buy that again — just to give you an idea of what I did.
What I said was, can you spread this around, because it's a good deal — three thousand things, whatever you want. There's so many things you can do — you can literally search the word "transcription," and you can make a YouTube video and go pay five bucks for somebody to transcribe it, and what they've done is they've created some original content for your blog post. So here's another one of those little ninja ideas that I'm going to share with you and just give to you, just serve and pay it forward. Go out and create like a 10-minute video, and then put it on YouTube, and then go here and pay someone five bucks to transcribe the whole thing for you, and they'll create like a full-blown word document, and then take that whole word document — there's the content for your blog post. You just go in there and clean it up a little bit, break it into some sections, and then you could say, hey, below is the word-for-word transcription, and you could even say, hey, I apologize if some of the words are missing or off, I had a friend transcribe it for me, whatever. And then, boom, you got all the original content, completely original content on your blog. How cool is that, right? So there you go, there's just little things — this gives you content for your blog. That was last week's episode, but I guess that's a bonus tip right there.
So, Fiverr — you do this. Here, I will add 300 Google Plus One votes in a span of seven days to your site, web page, blog, for five bucks. There you go, pretty dang simple. On this one I did this post here — this post I wrote, "Happy Birthday." This is another great example — "Happy Birthday: Top 15 Funny Viral Happy Birthday Videos on YouTube." Let's talk a little bit about this case study — here's one for the money-making ideas out there. How many of you, when you log into Facebook, how often is it someone's birthday? How often is it literally someone's birthday on Facebook? Well, what if you created a cool Facebook post, or like this — what if you created a cool blog post, and it had, like this one, 15 funny viral videos.
Now, go find your own — go think of your own thing, right, be creative, think of something like this. Hey, what's a funny video that you just want to send people on their birthday? But instead of sending it to them on their YouTube, on their Facebook account, blog about it, use the social media bar, and send them a link. Now how easy is that — you could even personalize the link if it's a friend. Let's say your friend's name is Jack, you could actually make the social media bar say, happy birthday John Doe — that could actually be socialmediabar.com slash happy-birthday-john-doe, boom, and it brings them to the same post as a different social media bar link. How cool is that? So basically, a simple call to action again — all I did was import 10, 10 funny birthday things, and people love this. When I send this to people on Facebook, I just say, hey, happy birthday, I wrote a blog post with the 10 funniest videos on happy birthday videos on YouTube, check it out, and I just send them this. It's just pretty cool.
Now, on the bottom I have this little link here — "How to Get Paid Money to Review Products on YouTube," that step-by-step blogging guide, part-time work, make money blogging. You know, I'm just doing what I'm doing, a little call to action at the end. But this post right here, same kind of thing — I don't see the social media bar link for it, I forget what it is right now, but it's got a bunch of activity up on the social media bar, hundreds of likes and stuff like that, and that kickstarts it. So, you want to see how well — this is a great study, you want to see how well Empower Network blogs rank? Check this out — happy birthday videos.
Let's see — happy birthday videos, in Google, and let's go over here, let's do "hide my personal results," I don't like when it shows me personal results. Look at that — Empower Network, happy birthday videos, I mean, jeez, there you go. That's not — this is just for fun, I was just messing around with that. What about, like, viral happy birthday videos, or whatever — you can just keep searching different things. I haven't really done any searches — viral birthday videos, and you just kind of look down, boom, I didn't even see that one ahead of time. Or let's go for — so you got funny birthday videos, I don't know if I'll make that one, that one might be too hard, there it is. Okay, so whatever, happy birthday videos, funny, whatever — everything ranks, Empower Network's awesome.
So how does this rank? I'm teaching you right now some — I'm going to teach you a few things, and it might be a little scattered because I kind of teach off the cuff, and I do have some kind of an outline here, but I'm trying to throw a lot at you real quick. So let's dissect this example right now — the same exact thing happened for GoDaddy, when I wrote the GoDaddy article, it ranked really well. The social media syndication kicks it off. So this is how social media — this is how you drive traffic fast. If you want to get your site listed fast, if you want to drive traffic fast, do some sort of mass promotion in social media. Now, you have to have some keywords in the title, it's got to be kind of SEO optimized a little bit. Now, these are all pretty good, pretty cool stuff — in fact, I might even rank for some of these terms, I don't even know.
See, I use different — here's the title of the video, "Birthday Cake Tantrum," and I'd add words — "Happy Birthday DD 2011 Edition," and I wrote this, "Baby Hates Happy Birthday Songs." This one is "I'm 24 — Happy Birthday Epic Rap Music Video." So this is one of the keys to ranking well in Google — you're taking something bland and boring, like "24," and trying to make it something a little bit more keyword rich. "18-Year-Old Birthday Blues for Josh." "Sunny Happy Birthday Piano Blues Song by Grandpa Bob." "Happy Birthday Cake Eggs by Tip-Tap." The point here is just taking something and making it — you know, "The Beatles' Birthday Song," "The Girl's Happy Birthday Song from the White Album." See what I did there — I had a "Happy Birthday" and I added "the White Album." So just a little bit more content for each thing.
"Happy Birthday, Mr. President" — I put "Marilyn Monroe Sings Happy Birthday to John F. Kennedy." Okay, so it's just different stuff.
"Happy Birthday Party Prank Goes Wrong." I just changed it — instead of "Funny Birthday Party Prank," it's "Funny Birthday Prank Goes Gone Wrong," "Happy Birthday Party Prank Goes Wrong." It's just different.
It's the same but different. "Funny Kids Singing Happy Birthday Song." "Kid With Rare Disease Sings Happy Birthday Song." So see, somebody might be looking for this — oh, what's that happy birthday song of that kid with that rare disease or whatever?
So there you go, there's only so much I can show you on and on. But I guess I'll show you this robot one is a good example. Look, they just titled the video "Happy Birthday," but see, I put "Happy Birthday — Three Dancing Robots 3D Animation."
Okay, so SEO 101 — this is SEO 101. You just basically use common sense and you think of some related keywords. So this is the on-page SEO optimization.
So there's on-page and then there's off-page. Off-page is where you get outside sources pointing to this article. Like every time I post this on Facebook, it's recurring. So this article does well because there's some constant, never-ending promotion to it over time. I'm just constantly promoting it.
And I don't do it every day. Just every once in a while, I jump on, I see whose birthday it is, and then I pop something like this in there. I don't spam their wall, I don't believe in that. So I usually send a little personal comment, and it shows up really well because of the social media bar.
So there's something for you right there — these are just some golden nuggets, and this stuff ranks. Okay, so there's on-page and there's off-page. Now, I think that's a good time for me to show you something cool, right?
Let's do "WordPress SEO tips." I'm about to show you something else extremely cool. I always love hiding personal results, just because I don't want to get confused. All right.
Here's what I'm about to show you. This Empower Network blog post itself, if I wrote it itself, may or may not get ranked well. But if I use outside influences, like Empire Avenue, and I do a mission, and I use Fiverr, and I do a little $5 promotion, and I use my own social media accounts, and I do some promotion there — if I do a combination of some things, I'm kickstarting the algorithm. But one of the other huge things that you need is link popularity.
Right — you want link popularity, you want outside links pointing in to your site. And I know there's a bunch of automated tools out there, and I'm not the expert in those automated tools, I'm much more of a roll-up-your-sleeves-and-do-it, be a master of the basics kind of guy. So I'm going to teach you a link popularity strategy right now that is going to blow your mind how simple it is, how easy it is, how fun it is, how much you're going to learn and grow in the process. And I'm just going to teach you something that's going to empower you to be able to make your Empower Network blog rank on the top first page of Google almost every time that you want, when you learn it.
So if you're interested, right now, this training is for you — if you're interested in figuring out how to write a blog post, and within 24 hours have it ranking in the top 10 of Google, where it's driving massive traffic, massive leads, massive sales, and massive Bora trips. If that's what you want, then this part is for you. All right, let's get into it. So I'm going to talk to you about guest blogging.
Guest blogging, guest blogging — write that down, guest blogging. Okay, where do I start? Let's go over to Facebook real quick.
And I just want to show you a couple things here on Facebook. So what you want to do — let me just turn off chat real quick.
Get this out of the way. Come on over here to Chris Record. All right, so what you want to do on Facebook is — I call this the Facebook method. Basically, you just want to do a search for something, right?
So you might do a search for like, you know, anything. Let's do a search for "internet marketing." And you do the search button right here, and it brings up a bunch of internet marketing results. Now you filter the next result by "people."
And you filter the next result there, and now you've got some people here. Now you can even do location if you want, you can type in any city that you want, like literally I could even do like San Diego or whatever. And it's going to pull up people that are in my friends list and people I'm not friends with.
You see this — I'm not friends with Matthew Trainer, he works at "self-employed and loving it" or whatever. So this simple search tool — just three steps: keyword, people, city. Now just something this simple right here allows you to be able to find people on Facebook based on these categories, like internet marketing and stuff like this. It's just real simple, real easy stuff.
This is how I've made a lot of my money in Power Network — just finding people here, shooting out little messages to them, stuff like that. One thing that I wanted to teach you a little bit about is how to find people on Facebook. So right now, you want to go through these people's profiles.
Let's look at this person, for example. And what you want to do is go to their about section, and you want to see if they've got websites, blogs, whatever — the main thing you're looking for is a website. Now, this person does not really want to advertise this person's website or whatever, but clearly they have a blog. So what I would do is I basically just take a look and see — okay, this guy's got a blog, he writes a bunch of different ideas, looks like sales page kind of stuff, different blog posts.
So this guy looks like his stuff's pretty good, looks like he's into internet marketing or whatever. But what I might do is I might contact him. I might see if there's a way to contact him. And, based on how easy it is to contact somebody — some people don't want to be contacted.
But based on how easy it is, I might contact them. Now, the way I contact people is never really through their blog — I always contact them on Facebook. So what I would do in a situation like this — I'd look and see this person has a blog, and so I'd probably message him and basically say something along the lines of, you know, something like this.
I'll keep it short. I might write a little bit longer, but I'll keep it short. "Hey, Matt — hey, Matthew, I just checked out your marketing blog.
It's awesome, big respect for your internet marketing skills. Do you ever have guest bloggers? Or —
Let's say I'm keeping it short — I've got a new blog I want to build some link popularity for, and would love to throw a guest post your way on any internet marketing topic you want. Now, you might say something different or whatever, I'm fairly confident and stuff. If that sounds cool, let me know.
I'll write it, you can approve or disapprove, just let me know. I look forward to chatting with you." All right.
So, whatever, send. So just like that — now this example, maybe somebody whose blog looks a little bit more aggressive than something I would normally do. So that's not necessarily the type of person I'd want to go right after. But this is just an example.
Now, another way to do it is just your friends list. So you just go to people who are friends. So you could type in a word, like, let's say "WordPress." WordPress people, doesn't matter where they are, they go to people that are maybe already friends with you.
So now these four people, I might do the same thing here. And since we're already friends, I could even get on and maybe chat with them.
You can just see if he's got any guest posts, if there's another person — but this is somebody I'm already friends with, so that makes it a lot easier, so now I might even talk to them a little bit more like a friend, and you just look — usually you look at something about their blog, "The Samurai Blogger, WordPress Tutorials," boom, boom, boom, so I'll just do something like this — message, "Hey, Josh, long time no talk, I was checking out your blog just now, it's looking awesome, I'm down to throw a killer guest post up for you and promote it on social media, I'm just looking to build some link popularity to a new blog, win-win, let me know. I can probably get some good traffic to it as well." All right, so I guess the point of the matter here is guest blogging — the first thing you need is people you want to guest blog on, and you don't just want to guest blog for anybody. You don't want to go to these guest blogging services, because everybody's there — I'm telling you, what you want to do is go on Facebook and use the Facebook method to find people, because blogging on a site like this is just so much better, for a few reasons.
Well, number one, every time you do this, you're also making a relationship with somebody who would probably be a good candidate for Empower Network, and this is a great first impression you're making with them. So it also gives you kind of a reason to open up a conversation about that, and clearly this person's promoting a lot of affiliate offers, so there might be a way to do something there. So the fact of the matter is, you go to people like this and you just try to find a win-win situation. And I did that when I first started my Empower Network blog — that was exactly what I did.
So, look at "WordPress SEO tips" — come full circle now, turn off the local results. When you search "WordPress SEO tips," literally, for me, the number two site might be like number three for you or something — the number two site is "Building a Brand Online." Now, this is somebody that I used the Facebook method with — this is a friend that I had on Facebook, and I asked him, I went to his blog and I said, hey, can I become a guest blogger? So I asked him, I said, hey, you want guest bloggers on your blog? And he goes, yeah, man, I'd love it. I go, great, I'll write a post — and so we talked about it, and he's like, cool. And then I said, hey, I'm trying to get some links, and he's like, okay, well, only put a couple links in there. I'm like, well, hey, we're friends, what can I do to get some more links? I want to link to a few different articles. He goes, tell you what, write two posts — if you write two posts, if you make your post a two-parter, then I'll give you a bunch of links. I said, cool.
So here's an example — now, mind you, I wanted to make this post really good, here's why: this guy's site ranked for a ton of stuff, and clearly — I just showed you, it's the number two site for "WordPress SEO tips," right, how cool is that? So I spent some time writing this — it probably took me a couple hours of sitting down writing this whole thing — but what I did was I basically gave some tips. And by the way, you might want to read through this article, there's some good stuff in here, but let me walk you through it — this is going to be the complicated one, then I'm going to show you a couple more examples, I'll show you a super simple post that you can do, and I'll even show you how to do a post that takes you literally 20 minutes. But on this one, I wanted to give a lot of value to his audience and everything, because he was allowing me to put Empower Network links in this, and this post has signed up several Empower Network people just from this one guest post, and I knew that this would happen, because he had a big following, and it ranked well. So I took my time, I taught some stuff — how to embed videos, and I took a screenshot, and look what I used for the screenshot.
My Empower Network blog — kind of some of the same stuff I'm teaching here — and I taught some different ways to put titles together, and at the bottom, "About the Author," I put a little thing here about the author, and there's my link to my blog. So, part two, off-site SEO and social media promotion — so look at that, I did a two-parter, and here's another part right here, "Massive Guest Posting for Link Popularity" — this is what we're talking about right now, I'm talking a lot more in detail than I did right here.
But you get the basic gist here — I did two paragraphs there versus, you know, 20 minutes here. "How to Barter for Free Link Popularity" — I talk about some ideas here. "Ninja Social Media Promotion Technique" — I did two paragraphs on Empire Avenue. See, these are kind of some of the same notes I'm using today, but I'm just going in detail on all of them, really cranking it out. And then look at this — number 10, bonus — "Top 300 Alexa Site Backlinks." The Empower Network site is a top 300 Alexa site, you want to get one for — it ranks, top 300 Alexa site backlinks.
Really well, it's got a built-in sales funnel, and you want to get it just for the backlinks alone, it's killer, right? So I've had probably 10 people sign up just from this one guest post over the course of five months, or whenever I wrote it — let's see if it says when I wrote it — 153 days ago, so I get a new person every two weeks on average, but I get a lot of opt-in leads from this every single day, actually. Click it through, and who knows how many people I got — it's just pretty cool. Now, when you're doing a guest post, if you can tie in Empower Network — you notice how I tied it in, I made it the 10th one, so I led with value, and then for people that kept reading, if they were sucked in, they were going to love this, so I made it the 10th one, and look where the link goes — it goes to almost a secret page, I just linked it straight to a landing page, I don't need to reinvent the wheel, super simple, basic stuff — but the main thing I want to say is at the end, my call to action was a bonus tip here, that's what they could do, and I wrote a two-page article.
Now, let's go to the home — there's another little trick I'll teach you about guest posting. If you get a chance to guest post — here's my two sites right here — you don't have to do two posts, you don't have to write as much as I did, this was overkill, but one cool thing is, use the same social media promotion technique — when you write a guest post, click all the social syndication buttons, do a promotion on Empire Avenue — and also, by the way, Empire Avenue is one of many social syndication sites out there, there's a lot of little networks you can syndicate your content on — and then I did a Fiverr promotion to it. So you see, I did a little promotion, gave it some juice, and that's one of the reasons why it ranked. So this is a combination of everything — writing good content, good titles, good social media promotion, a blast of social syndication, and I wrote a blog post on my Empower Network blog and linked over to it. Now I made another — here's one more tip — this is a friend on Facebook I contacted, and I made a two-part deal with him in exchange for a link on his blog roll. Because he was bartering with me, I said, okay, all right, I'll do a two-part, and I said I'll take my time and do a really solid one and promote it, but I want a link on your blog roll. So right there, boom, that goes to my Empower Network blog, empowernetwork.com slash take-massive-action, you see that? So I'm building link popularity — now, what does that mean, that it's on his blog roll? What that means is, his site's got a page rank too, not a huge page rank, but I notice his things rank well. On every single article, no matter where you are, if you're over here on Facebook, if you're on this Facebook birthdays article, and you scroll down to the sidebar, no matter where you are, there's a link to my Empower Network blog on all of it. So by getting on somebody's blog roll, you're getting a link on every single page on their site pointing back to you. So I had links in the article pointing to inside posts — I linked to several different articles in that, and then I also link here to that. Now, the other thing I did was friends of friends — so the other thing I did was I went to these other people on the blog.
And I said, hey, I just wanted to share with you, I just wrote a guest post on Corey Shane's blog, go check it out, and if you're interested in something, I'll do something for you too. Now here's the viral effect, or the word-of-mouth effect, or whatever you want to call it — the friend-of-friend connect, each one connecting one. So I went over here to Online Business Owners, and said, hey, I just wrote this post, and he goes, oh man, that post was awesome, and I said, hey, if you want, I can write a post for you too. This guy's site's not loading, maybe it's just going slow, maybe it's my internet — and I went to this person here, looks like it's loading now, all right, so I went here, and I said, hey, I'll write a post for you, and then, boom, he goes, okay, what's your site about? He says, just online business owner, online marketing stuff. I said, okay, so I wrote this post here.
"Top Five Online Business Opportunities and Ideas to Make Money Online in 2012" — look at this title, this is the most targeted title ever, right — online business opportunities, make money online, 2012.
"Ideas to make money online" — this is keyword rich, is what I'm saying. Now the first sentence: "This guest post is written by internet marketing coach Chris Record," and that's hyperlinked to where? You guessed it, my empowernetwork.com slash take massive action. So right in the beginning, this guest post was written by Chris Record, and it's intended for anyone looking for more information about starting a business online and making more money with internet marketing in 2012. So I'm writing something for him, but at the same time, let's look at this — all I did was write some paragraphs, and then use an H1 tag.
Write some paragraphs, make a few things bold, then H1 — so here's the first one, blogging. "Coming in at the top of the list is blogging to make money online," so when you click that hyperlink, "blogging to make money online," guess where it goes? Now, I could have linked — you could either link to a landing page here, I linked here because I figured it was the best thing to do, but I might have linked to my own blog. On that one I'm building link popularity — on the other one it's just more like an ad, going to a landing page — but I could change this link. What you could do is write a blog post about blogging to make money online, and just write a few paragraphs as a placeholder.
Okay, so let me slow down and make sure you get this — if you're getting ready to write a blog post and you want to link to your blog, you could write a new post, I could call it "Blogging to Make Money Online," I write that post on my Empower Network blog, and then I publish it, even if it's just short, just a few paragraphs, like a placeholder, I publish it, then I get the URL, and then I link to that new blog post. So I write this blog post, I link to it, and then submit. Now I'll go back and improve that blog post over time — eventually "Blogging to Make Money Online" will be a killer blog post, I'll have some link popularity pointing into it, I'll probably rank number one for it too, just because I'm badass, and because it's on an Empower Network blog, which is the real secret. So, one — blogging — and I wrote a few things here, grabbed a couple things.
I also recommend setting up an e-wallet account for 20 bucks a month, so you can earn income directly when people click on the affiliate links and buy stuff. The guy loved this guest post, because look at the value — click here to watch the video, click here to skip the video and just join, click here to read this article on blogging tips. Now look what I did here — I linked back over to this article.
You see what I'm doing? I wrote this guest post, I'm linking the guest post together. Now, how powerful is that? What I'm doing is I'm linking over to this, now Google is seeing that this article's popular, and it goes on and on. Number two, affiliate marketing — boom, boom, boom, search engine optimization techniques.
But where does this go? When you click "search engine optimization techniques," this links to an inside article on my Empower Network blog. You see, it links direct — you want to link directly to your blog articles. So I have links in this one guest post going to the homepage, links going to inside articles like this that I wrote.
I've got links going everywhere. Now, not too much — I'm not blowing up this blog with a lot of content. And the more content you write, the more they love you. You don't have to write this much content. "Becoming a YouTube Partner is a good way to make money."
"Create your own product." "Internet marketing consulting" — there you go, internet marketing consulting, bonus articles to help you promote your business online. And then look at this — "Hopefully these tips helped you." "10 SEO Tips to Get Ranked" — that's that other blog post I did, that other guest post. "How to Use Facebook Pay-Per-Click Advertising" — this is an inside blog post on my Empower Network blog.
"Tips on Recovering from Google Panda" — there's another inside blog post. "30 Minute Internet Marketing Training Video" — that goes right to here, with my link on it. So there's an example of a powerful, powerful guest post. "For more information about this guest author, Chris Record" — that links to my Empire Avenue profile. And the reason it links there is I want to link to everything.
It's social syndication, I'm linking to different spots. "Contacting Facebook" — that links to my Facebook. Then you get a bunch of comments, people are excited, and on and on. So I didn't just go to him — I also went to the other person on his blog post.
So remember, I told you I went down the list and told everybody, I said, hey, what about this? Well, here's the next person, right? So I went to her and said, hey, I want to do something, what do you think would be a good fit? She says, well, you're all about taking massive action, so why don't you write about taking massive action?
So I wrote this guest post here — "Five Questions to Ask Before You Take Massive Action." "10 SEO Tips to Get Ranked Online." "Take Massive Action Daily." "This guest post is from a good friend of mine, Chris Record" — and that goes to my Empower Network Take Massive Action main page, "who's a coach and trainer," etc.
"For more information, visit Chris Record," and that forwards to the Empower Network page as well. All right, here's the five questions, right? Number one, "Do I have passion for what I do?" I found a picture, wrote a few things.
Number two, "Will it distract me?" Picture, wrote a couple sentences. Number three, "Will I get a return?" Picture, wrote a few sentences. Number four — and I just found these pictures in Google Images.
Number four, "Will you hold me accountable?" And number five, "When I'm finished, will I be proud of my results?" And then she didn't want links, so her big thing was she said, well, I don't want too many links in there. So, "If you enjoyed this article on five questions to ask yourself, for more information about the guest author, Chris Record" — and this one right here I linked over to an inside post.
You see that? So I linked to an inside post there at the end. "Visit his blog." And 927 likes, 62 tweets — so, see, social media syndication there. I don't know how this one ranks — let's see, "Taking Massive Action" — yeah, it might not rank — oh, top 10, okay, it ranked. So there you go.
And that's because of just the on-site SEO that I was doing there. Oh, gosh, I could go on forever.
I don't really want to go on too much longer about that, but I do just want to say that people are wondering, okay, well, how is it that you're getting these blog posts ranked? It's because I'm going through a process — writing the blog post, doing the social media bar with it, clicking these buttons, and then I do the Empire Avenue promotion for it, and then I promote it on social media myself. And I don't just spam stuff in groups, I'm just not that kind of guy. Instead of spamming stuff in groups, I go and try to create engagement.
My engagement is always looking at that figure — how many of these do I have? That's always my judgment of whether what I'm doing is working. It's like my instant feedback. If I'm getting no likes, or just one like, and no comments, and nobody's sharing, then I stop that.
I'm not going to just spam stuff that nobody cares about, that's just ridiculous. So use that judgment, and you start asking questions, start engaging, start coming up with better thumbnails that people want to click on. I had one guy on my team, he wrote a blog post, and his autocorrect on his phone accidentally put that he was stoned when he wrote it. And it literally said something like, "blah, blah, blah, and I was stoned when I wrote that," or "this is what stoner sales looks like," or something like that.
I forget what it was, but it said the word "stoner" in it. And he's like, oh man, I messed up, I didn't mean to do that. But then the clicks started rolling in. And he's like, what?
The clicks are rolling in. People are like, oh, that caught my eye, and people wanted to click on it to see, oh, really? I started thinking about that — wow, that's what David Wood's so good at. David Wood would literally bend over, pull his cheeks apart, tell his wife to take a picture of it, and then send out an email to everybody and say, "Don't click on this picture." And you're like, wait, what?
What does this have to do with anything? I'm going to click to find out, and then you buy stuff. It doesn't make any sense, but do stuff that's controversial. Do stuff that'll get people engaged, and that's kind of a big secret.
All right, look, I'm going to kind of wrap this up. Let's wrap up with a little bit of summary, and just try to pull some pieces together here with what's going on. The summary is that a lot of people think that they can just blog and make money, right? So they get in the business, and they just blog, and they try to make money.
They don't realize — blogging really doesn't make you any money at all. Creating content doesn't make you any money, okay? The thing that makes you money is promotion, advertising, marketing.
That's where the money's made, okay? So you get in Empower Network, you've got to have a plan to create traffic, and then you've got to have a plan to capture those leads. You've got to have a plan to convert it to sales. Yes, it's an automated business, yes, it could work passively, but the real key is focusing on those three C's.
How can I create traffic? Well, I just showed you — you do guest posts. Now, what's a ratio? I had a person tell me — here, oh, here's a good one.
I had a person tell me, he said, "Chris, I'm going to start writing 10 posts a day on my Empower Network blog." I go, really? That's crazy. And I said, why 10? And I had to tell him, no, that's not how it works.
If you write 10 posts a day, you're not going to get the results 10 times faster, because more content is just going to sit around. That's like saying that I'm going to go buy 10,000 business cards, because if I buy 10,000 business cards, then more people are going to join my business. Well, the answer is no — if you buy 10,000 business cards, you're just going to have more business cards laying around your house.
That's what's going to happen. The only way people would join your business is if you've got those business cards in people's hands in a compelling way that they wanted to take action. So that's marketing. And the same thing with your blog — your blog is like an online business card.
You've got to get out there, and you've got to drive traffic to it. How do you drive traffic? Well, you use social media, you use these syndication tools.
You create compelling content that people want to click on. You use cool pictures and stuff like that. You use the social media bar. You build link popularity, like commenting on other blogs and doing guest posts and stuff like that. You use these strategies, and then, over time — it's not an instant thing — Google starts to rank it.
The only instant thing is social media. When you promote it on social media or email — another thing I'll do is I'll blast out to my email list as well, and that's why I got a lot of sticky visitors to my site, a lot of recurring visitors, because I'm always emailing my list. I just wrote this article. Where was it? Here.
Oh, this one. And I even made a little banner. Actually, I copied this from David Wood's site and then added this to the bottom, and it was a little square, and you click on it. It goes to the article that I just wrote, "How to Create a Compelling Call to Action in Your Blog Post."
So this right here is great for the public, it has a call to action in it. I'll send this out to my list, put a little bit of this in the email, and then send it out and tell them to come back here to this link, or to my social media bar link probably. Okay?
So that's a way to drive traffic. There's ways to drive instant traffic — your email list, and you're getting leads there, and your social media network. That's instant traffic. Google traffic is not necessarily instant.
What makes Google traffic instant? Like that spike I showed you with that GoDaddy article — when you see the perfect storm, when there's trending news, you blog about it real quick, you share it on social media real quick, it creates the viral factor, Google starts seeing that there's some buzz on it, and then it lists you. So the reason I did 5,000 page views in a day on that GoDaddy article is because I got ranked number two or number three for "GoDaddy hacked." And when someone typed in, "Is GoDaddy hacked?"
Or, "Did GoDaddy get hacked?" — I was number two or number three. Now, since then, I don't think I'm anywhere even in the top ten, because then the whole world started blogging about it. I was just one of the first ones.
Yeah, I'm not — but look at all these people now, Huffington Post, Daily Beast, Guardian, TechCrunch, CBS News. So what happened was the whole world started blogging about it, but I got there first — not first before everybody, but early. I got there early. Oh, here we go.
Here we go — Empower Network. So I'm in the top 20 still, but this is like number two or three or whatever, and I got just thousands of visitors — I got 5,000 visitors alone just from Google in one day. And within 12 hours of writing the post, I checked my analytics and I had 5,000 visitors from Google, okay?
That's because I broke the news early and because I used the same techniques I'm sharing with you now. So what I want to do is leave you with some thoughts. What you've learned today is just the tip of the iceberg.
You want to have a great expectation. I'm all about abundant thinking, positive thinking, all that. You want to have a great expectation, but at the same time, you want to be fairly realistic. David Wood had an expectation that he was going to be a successful blogger and make a lot of money online blogging. He knew, look, it's going to take some time. I got to write some creative content, I got to write some compelling content.
It's going to take a while before Google lists my posts. You're on Google's schedule, not really your own. It's going to take a while. Sometimes they take their time. And then it's going to take a while before they determine that my blog is popular. Now, with Empower Network, you get a head start on that, which is really cool. But even if I write these guest posts, it's going to take a while before Google really ranks them and sees the value of them.
But at some point, if you do what I'm teaching you here and what Empower Network's teaching you, this stuff's going to start ranking. And you can take this and apply it to your own blog too, and stuff can start ranking even outside of Empower Network. Empower Network's just a good starting point because it ranks so well. So the thing is, here's what I want to encourage you to do — just follow these principles.
Blog daily, tell others, get money. When you blog daily, you write compelling content every single day on killer stuff. When you tell others, that is clicking all the social media icons, doing missions, syndicating your stuff, going and finding different ways to syndicate your content — buy some Fiverr stuff if you need to, whatever, you get it out there. And then what'll happen is there's a chance that Google will rank that post really quickly.
And if you have some good title, a good SEO title, what I call a long-tail keyword, you can rank pretty well for those keywords. So it takes time, but the thing is, if you trust in the process, you can have some success blogging. Now, I used to blog before, I never made much money.
The reason I never made much money is because the Empower Network blogging system is what I needed. That was the solution. It had all the built-in ads, the built-in lead capture, the built-in sales videos.
I didn't have to do anything, I just had to blog daily and tell others and get money. And that was it, right? So it took all the complicated process out of it — I just had to blog daily.
I had to tell others, I had to get money. And I'm building my email list — I mean, I'm building my email list like crazy right now. 50 to 100 leads a day coming in through this.
I'm doing this stuff passively while I sleep. And there's autoresponders going out to every single one of them for a month or two. And then my broadcast emails on top of that I send out, like I just showed you, with my post. Eventually you get it — you wake up one morning and you're like, holy smokes.
I got a 5,000-person email list that's all on autoresponders. Every time I write a blog post now, I send it out, I blast it out to my list. And right off the bat, I get, like, 1,000 visitors.
Every time I write something, I do this mission on Empire Avenue and I get 100 likes on it. It becomes easy. After a while, it becomes simple. So what you've got to do is have confidence and faith it's going to work out.
And you also don't want to waste a lot of time on it, because you don't need to be as good as David Wood to make money. You don't even need to be as good as me. If you just spend an hour a day doing this, just one hour a day, every day, consistently, and then all the rest of your time is spent on other income-producing activities, you're going to do fine. You're going to make money. You're going to be able to create residual income, because the system's working while you're sleeping.
Right now, every single day — if I stopped and took a month off, I'll still make money from my blog. I'll still get leads from my blog. My stuff will still get ranked if I took a whole month off. Now, I'm not rich off my blog, but I'm getting there.
I'm getting there. It's not bad. They call this the 15K Formula. I'm living proof of making 15K with Empower Network every month. More than 15K.
Now, I think it was 25K last month. So, you know, this thing lights up. This thing lights up. All right, so this isn't my only strategy.
This is just one of my main strategies that I kind of took a hold of and ran with. Use it if you want, or don't use it. But hopefully you've been inspired by this. Like I said, I have those basic blog tutorial videos on my site if you want to use them, or on YouTube. I'll throw that up there real quick just so you can see it.
I'd recommend going and getting your own blog. I'd recommend going and getting your site set up, watching this video over and over, the 15K, watching both of them over and over. Listen to the other leaders here and take massive action. That's what it takes to succeed. So, yeah.
So David told me to turn it over when I was done. I know Justin's on the line. I don't know if David's still online. Who wants to jump in here and take over? Anybody still out there?
Or am I wrapping this thing up? All right, if somebody's talking, we'll give everybody a second. Hey, can you hear me okay? I can hear you.
Okay, yeah, I had myself muted out. Justin, I think, was going to say something. So Justin, man, I'll just turn it over to you for a sec, because I know you're going to jump in there.
And then I'll finish it off and give some people some assignments here. So over to you, bud. Absolutely — excellent job, Chris. Some of the strategies taught tonight are brand new and foreign to me.
So I'm looking forward to applying them. One of the things I do to get instant traffic — I don't get a ton of traffic to my blog, but I may get like 500, 600, 700 people a day to the blog. I do what Chris shares with sending it to your list. I'm a big fan of being in front of my list every day.
I want to be in their face. I want them thinking about me — you know, the crazy hippie kid. So I'm always emailing my list, my daily post. And something else that I do is I go to groups on Facebook and I just add myself to as many targeted groups as I can.
Now, the key is providing valuable content on your blog post, obviously. You don't want to be spammy. You don't want to be talking about how to get rich fast in a bicycle group where people want to talk about bicycles, right? You know what I mean?
You got to have targeted content. But if you do that, you could get hundreds of people also instantly to your blog post. And it creates a lot of social buzz, because social media, people love to leave comments and things like this. So you could make your blog very active. And when people see you got a lot of comments, that helps with your search engine rankings.
As well, doing things like little Twitter jobs — if you got a really good post and you want to get the traffic to it and you don't have a lot of time because you're working a nine-to-five, five bucks gets anything done. So I just wanted to throw that out there. There's so many syndication strategies, and that's key.
Blog and then spend the rest of the day sharing it — that's what I do. I create a very valuable blog post, and then the rest of my day, all I do is share that and do whatever I can do to get traffic to it, because that's what I know how to do. What creates money here is getting the traffic.
So I just wanted to throw that out there, dude. Yeah, and the only thing I'll say on that is — and that's a really common thing — somebody comes along, like what Chris said, where they'll say, I'm going to write ten blog posts a day, and they spend no time getting people to see the posts. You know what I mean?
It's a common misunderstanding — people think that if they create a whole bunch of stuff that nobody sees, somehow people are going to see it. So, when I got started, I had no money at all, and so I'd write a post, and literally it was like eight-to-one, the time that I spent promoting the post versus the time I spent writing it. So just tossing that out there for people who are wondering what they should be focused on — getting people to see your stuff, if you're wanting to build primarily through blogging. I think that guest blogging strategy is just awesome, by the way.
I wish I would have run across something like that. I mean, I heard of guest blogging, but the way you go about contacting people — I would have, for a long time, loved having people contacting me and asking to write guest posts on my blog like that. You know what I mean? So I just think that's awesome. And so here's what I want to do for everybody on here.
First of all, next week — folks, this is enough on blogging for now to where everybody here could go and start getting a sign-up or two a day just from what we've covered in the last two webinars. There's a lot more we can cover on blogging, and we're going to cover a lot more as we go through this series, and we're going to cover some tricks here and there. Next week, what we're going to do is tie up the free strategy section of the 15K Formula.
And so what we're going to do is cover some really cool ninja tactics for generating leads on social media, just for quick list building. There's a lot of neat stuff some of our leaders are doing that I want to bring out and share with you guys — creating Facebook groups and creating communities and just really fast lead generation strategies where you can go out and generate 20 or 30 leads a day before you have a lot of money. So we'll cover that next week. So between now and next week, what do you do?
Well, I'm going to give everybody here an assignment. Now, first of all, last week, we told everybody to write a blog post. Who had, between last week and next week — who wrote at least three blog posts between last webinar and this webinar?
Who did that? I'm just curious. I'm guessing that means 50 people. Yep, here you did.
You did. Okay, a whole bunch of people wrote at least three blog posts. Did that speed blogging thing help everybody on here, by the way — the speed blogging thing he covered last week?
By the way, Chris, that was my favorite part of the thing, because I'm one of these guys who — I actually don't work a tremendous amount, but sometimes I'll sit there and I'll blog for four hours. That actually helped me out a lot. I got a lot of value out of that just because I'm spacey and a little distracted.
I'll just sit there and stare at the screen for three of the hours. I got a lot of value out of the speed blogging part of that. That was killer. So that was awesome. It's the speed blogging.
That was awesome. I think everybody here should review that webinar just for the speed blogging thing. So this week, let's talk about the assignment between now and next week. Next week, we're going to have some just awesome trainers out from our leadership, people who make a lot of money within Power Network.
And then after that, we're going to get straight into paid stuff, because we want to get into paid stuff. It's interesting — about half of our leaders do free stuff, and about half of them do paid stuff and don't know how to do free stuff. And it's usually one or the other. Like Justin Berenja, he talks about how he's really good at blogging, makes a lot of money blogging.
He's not really so good at paid stuff, so he outsources it. I'm really good at blogging, I'm not really good at paid stuff. Dave Sharp is really good at paid stuff, so he does our paid stuff.
Right? Aaron Rashkin, Sophia — they're good at both, but they primarily do paid stuff. Tracy Walker, she's kind of doing both now, but when she started with Power Network, she was doing basically free stuff. So we want to finish up the free stuff next week, get into paid strategies, because you can drive a lot of traffic and get a lot of leads really fast.
So between now and next week, we're going to tie up the free strategies. Here's what I want you to do. First of all, write at least a blog post a day, using what we covered in the last webinar.
Write one blog post a day. Every day between now and next Thursday's webinar. Write one blog post a day using what we talked about here, using the calls to action we talked about in the last webinar. Write a blog post like that.
Here's the next thing I want you guys to do. Now, I think, Chris — you've done more guest blogging than me, honestly, I've never done it. What's a fair assignment for getting somebody to reach out and write good stuff? What should they shoot for?
Three guest blog posts in a week? Two? How much time — I don't know how much time this takes. What do you think?
Yeah, I think there's two things there, right? I think the first thing is contacting people, like I did. I showed everybody how I contacted two people right here live on the webinar about guest blogging. And I did that in like a minute each. So I think every single person here should set a goal to have a high number of people they contact.
To see if they're interested in a guest post. And don't go after the best blogs out there — go after people that have like mediocre blogs to start with. But I would say to contact a high number of people, like 20 people.
I would say, hey, use the Facebook method — contact like 5 to 10 people a day for a couple of days. Go look at their about profile, look at the website, and contact them and see if they're open to a guest post. And contact about 20.
Because if you can get about 20, then out of those 20 people, when they respond back, some will, some won't — you should be able to get about 2 to 3 that would be interested in having you do a guest post. And I think 2 to 3 guest posts to start with is a reasonable goal. People could do that this week. And then the other thing I want to say is it does not need to be as complicated and advanced as mine was. When I started guest posting, all I did was embed a YouTube video.
And I summarized like 5 tips from the YouTube video. It took me like 10 minutes, because I didn't know what I was doing, I didn't want to mess it up. So I just did a YouTube video and reviewed it.
On whatever topic they told me. But yeah, I would say the assignment for guest blogging would be — contact 20 people using the Facebook method that I taught on this webinar. And out of those 20 people, make it a goal to do at least 2 to 3 actual guest blog posts. And do them this week. And then also speed blog.
Don't spend 4 or 5 hours doing a guest blog post, because at a certain point you reach the point where you start losing money — you reach the point where actually money is coming out of your pocket, because it's just ineffective. So I would say, look, you're on somebody else's blog. Fair enough — an hour.
Fair enough — give yourself a full hour but not a minute more. Sit down. It's 4 p.m., whatever.
You're blogging until 5 p.m. and not a minute more, because you respect your time. So that's it — 20 people, maybe 2 to 3 guest posts out of that.
That should be a pretty good assignment for guest blogging. Okay, so we've got the assignments then. Between now and next week, everybody on this webinar — write 7 blog posts.
Okay, if you haven't done one tonight, do one tonight. Write one tonight, write a blog post tonight, and write one every single day for the next 7 days.
If you need to review the speed blogging thing, it's back there. We're going to have a manual up for that in the next day or two as well, so you can review the strategy. So write 7 blog posts, contact 20 people on Facebook between now and next week.
20 people, contact 20 people on Facebook. And what I want you to do is see if you can do 3 guest blog posts on somebody else's blog.
And write quality. This is what I'm going to encourage all of you to do — when you go to somebody else's blog, even though you don't want to spend a lot of time. I know if somebody came to my blog and said, hey Dave, can I write a guest post on your blog, and it was just this hideous post with links in every sentence, that just wanted to spam my blog.
I just delete the post. And then I might have a little resistance if somebody else from the same group came and contacted me and wanted to write a post. So if you're going to write a post, just put some sort of quality up here. Now, somebody wrote, asked a question.
I want to cover this just very briefly. Somebody said, Dave, I'm not an expert at anything, how do I pretend like I'm an expert? We're not asking you to pretend like you're an expert, guys. If you review last week's webinar, he taught you how to create content.
All an expert is, is somebody who's created content for a long time and become an expert. So don't be an expert if you're brand new — this stuff will still work. What does a high schooler do when they write an article about something?
They don't know anything about it. They spend 15 minutes researching it and they write a 500-word article on it. Right. Chris.
You don't need to be an expert to do any of this stuff. I actually want to jump in there and say something about that. David — is this picture here. I'm not an expert at adverbial clauses and calls to action.
This article you wrote — you're an expert in this, and I'm not, but yet I still wrote a blog post about it. So you're the expert, I'm not. So this is like a guest post in a way — I wrote about a topic that I'm not the expert in, because what I did was I basically reviewed somebody else's stuff.
I shared right in the beginning — for those of you that have been following David Wood closely, like I have, it's been quite amazing to watch him start a direct sales company from scratch his first year. I don't need to fake it till I make it. What I'm going to do is give you respect where respect is due, and I'm going to write a blog post about it. But then what's going to happen is that this eventually will make me an expert. Eventually I'll become an expert in that.
So this is a perfect example — this is a topic I was not an expert in, but I still wrote a good blog post about it, because I leveraged other experts. How hard is it for me to look up adverbial clauses and see what Wikipedia has to say about it, and then maybe see like indirect suggestion, and quote David Wood, and then maybe quote another expert, and then link to a YouTube video, embed a YouTube video like this one down here, whatever. The point is that what David Wood is saying is that no one's ever an expert in everything, right? So if you gave me a random topic like writing about panda bears in the zoo, I could write a good post about panda bears in the zoo without needing to be an expert on it. There's information available.
All you do is you gather that information and make it compelling so people want to read it, and then post it. You don't spend all day doing it, because you'll be neglecting your family and your business, but you spend enough time that you make it quality, and then you post it. And the other quick thought there, David, real quick, was you made a phenomenal point, which is if you write a crappy blog post, the person's not going to want it on their blog. So what I recommend doing — because some of you might think you're not good enough to do it — is keeping your blog post simple and compelling.
So watch the first webinar in detail and then write a blog post. And here's a little tip, David, I'm so glad you brought this up, because here's a big tip. Write your blog post in Microsoft Word.
Or you could even write it here in Power Network, and you could password protect it. That's another kind of cool way to do it. But you could write it in Word if you want.
And what you do is you write it, and let's say I want to be a guest post for David Wood, and let's say David Wood says, hey, I don't know if this is good for my blog. Well, guess what?
I can take that guest post and shop it around. I'll use that Facebook method, and I'll tell everybody, hey, I wrote a pretty cool post on blah, blah, blah, and if you're looking for a guest post, I'd love to post it on your blog, check it out. I can actually shop that post that I just wrote.
And if David Wood doesn't like it, I'll fix it a little bit and shop it around. Like, he didn't like it for a reason, so let me fix it. But let me shop it around.
So there's just a little ninja tip there — if you're going to spend the time writing a blog post, you could shop it around a little bit for a guest post. And if nobody bites, if nobody takes it, post it on your own Empower Network blog. Just take out whatever part said it was a guest post, and then, boom, you got a post for your blog. So there's never wasted effort.
It's all about efficiency and output, and there's never any wasted effort. But those are — what you touched on, I wish I would have touched on too, David. Phenomenal points. Last thing I want to cover here, and then we're going to end the webinar because we're good for this week, is on this subject.
How do you become an expert? How do you actually become an expert in something? And I'd encourage everybody here to eventually be an expert, right? Here's how you become an expert. It's a three-step formula.
Okay, you ready? Study, do, and teach. Study, do, and teach. No expert that I know was an expert before they started teaching.
This is what I'm saying — this is a really common disconnect that I think people have, especially when they're new. They want to be an expert and then teach. But you become an expert through the act of teaching. Right?
You become an expert by learning something and implementing it and teaching it. I promise everybody on this webinar, if you'll follow this formula for the next six months, it is impossible to do what I'm about to tell you to do without being an expert in what we're doing. Okay? You guys ready?
You guys want to be an expert within the net? Now, here's a cool thing — if you're an expert in internet marketing, you're a real expert. Experts in this niche get paid a lot of money. I mean, you see Chris Record.
He's an expert in doing what he's doing. He's been doing this in Empower Network an hour a night. You work a full-time job, you work 10 hours a day, you've got a family.
You've got two kids. You're doing this an hour a night, right? And this month you'll probably do more. And so experts in this business get paid a lot of money.
Okay, you guys ready for the formula to become an expert? Here's what you do — for the next six months, study a subject, it could be for 15 minutes. You could be listening to an inner circle audio when you're driving in your car.
And have that be your study, because you don't have a lot of time. A lot of you guys have jobs, you work. So listen to stuff in your down time.
As you're driving around in your car, turn your car into a drive-time university, right? We say that all the time. And not everybody does it.
I'm telling you guys, if you do it, it'll change your life. Turn your car into a drive-time university. Turn off the radio for six months. You don't need it for the next six months. Every day, take something you learn.
And implement it into a blog post. There's a magic that happens when you write down what you're learning. And as you're writing it, I want you to write it not like you're not an expert.
I want you to write it like you're teaching it to people, and you're teaching them to do what you just learned how to do. Write it like you're the teacher. Write it like you're the teacher.
Next week we're going to talk about video marketing, and how to make compelling videos. A lot of people look at my videos and say, guy, you just get on these videos, you talk.
You're so confident in these videos. You know, I'm not confident in videos like that, Dave, how could I possibly do that? Well, guys, when I got online.
I saw other people making these bad-ass videos. I thought the same thing. So I put a camera up. I got in front of the camera. And I sat there — my first video.
I remember turning that camera on and off, and on and off, and deleting the video 50 times, because I felt so stupid in front of the camera. So I started making screencast videos.
And it was about video 40 that I put up on the internet, before I actually felt confident on video. Right? It was like video 40. It wasn't my first video.
It was like three months of making videos all the time. And then I was confident. Right? And now, three years later.
It doesn't matter the situation. I'm confident in talking about what I'm talking about, because I study, I write about something.
I teach something. Right? I do live stuff every single week. I teach. And I teach.
And I teach what I'm learning. And when you teach what you're learning, and you do it every single day, you can't do that for an hour a day without being an expert in six months.
It's impossible not to. And experts in this niche get paid a lot of money. So that's how you become an expert. It's a simple formula. Study.
Do. Teach. Study. Do. Teach.
Okay, so the assignment again — what's the assignment for this next week? Write a blog post every day. Write a blog post every day.
Spend an hour, do it in an hour or less. Write at least one blog post a day. And if you really want to go gangster.
Write two. Contact 20 people on Facebook. 20. I want you guys to all go to Facebook.
Follow the formula you did in this video. Contact 20 people on Facebook. We'll have this replay up in the next day or two. And then I want you to write two to three guest blog posts if you can.
Quality stuff on other people's blogs. Then follow the Fiverr syndication strategy, the other syndication strategies we talked about on this webinar. And get ready, because next week we're going to talk about video. And I'm telling you guys, there's nothing that has made me more money than getting good at making compelling video.
You don't need to have expensive equipment to do it. I did it with a $200 flip cam. We'll talk about the resources, the tools, everything you need to know to make a lot of money in video.
We're going to bring out people at Empower Network, myself, and other people who make a lot of money in video. And we're going to talk about video marketing next week. So come back. Follow the assignments, because that's how you get good. It's not by finishing the 15K Formula and then starting to implement.
It's by studying, immediately taking action, and teaching at the same time. That will make you an expert in a very short amount of time. Okay? You guys ready? We good for the week?
We good, guys? All right. Hey, folks, we'll see you next week. Thanks for coming on the 15K Formula.
Real quick — who thought this webinar was worth $1,000? Who's a little bit more confident in selling this product? You guys think so?
Okay, I think this webinar is worth $10,000. So, guys, we will see you next week. You guys are all badasses. Chris, thanks again.
Justin, thanks for popping on for a few seconds. We're going to have you out actually next week talking more on video marketing along with a whole bunch of other people. There's a whole bunch of people that are good at that here. So, guys, we'll see you next week and looking forward to it. Bye-bye.
We'll be right back after this session, and this call will be disconnected. Good-bye.
