Inspiration or Envy: What Watching Someone Else’s Check Actually Proves

You’re standing at the back of a ballroom watching a line of ordinary-looking people cross a stage to pick up a check, and something in your chest does two things at once. Part of you leans forward, hungry, thinking if that guy in the flip-flops can do it, so can you. Part of you crosses your arms and thinks it’s rigged, or lucky, or easier for them than it would be for you. This session is built entirely around that split second, the one where you decide whether what you’re watching is proof or an excuse.

The lineup that day includes a guy who got fired from a corporate job not long after starting this part-time, a couple who admit they haven’t logged into their own account in months because they stopped needing to check, and a woman who says flat out that her actual currency isn’t the number printed on the paper in her hand. None of them are performing. They’re just describing what happened to them over a fixed stretch of months, and the room has to decide what to do with that information.

What are you actually supposed to feel when someone else’s check is bigger than yours?

Nobody on that stage tells the room to feel good about it. A few of them admit the opposite happened to them once, sitting in the audience at their own first event, arms crossed, irritated at people crossing a stage in bare feet. That reaction gets named directly instead of shamed. Envy, it turns out, is just proof registering somewhere you haven’t given yourself permission to use yet. The people who turned it into fuel didn’t wait to stop feeling it. They kept building while it was still uncomfortable.

That’s the real hinge of the whole session. Inspiration and envy are the same raw material, information that someone with no more talent than you just did the thing. What separates the two outcomes is only what you do in the ten minutes after you feel it.

Why does everyone up there keep pointing to a fixed number of months instead of a career total?

Almost every person called up repeats some version of the same phrase: this represents the last ninety days. Not a year, not a lifetime, a defined window. Tracy Walker, currently the top-earning woman in the company at the time of this event, makes the point explicit when she’s handed her check and starts talking before she even looks at the number.

The only reason that this is working for me, in my opinion, is because I mind my own business, okay? And I focus on my goals and I just do what I need to do every single day consistently without fail.

That’s the mechanism hiding inside all the applause. She isn’t tracking where she ranks against the person standing next to her in line. She’s tracking her own ninety days against her own last ninety days. The comparison that actually moves the needle isn’t you against the guy on stage, it’s you this quarter against you last quarter.

What do you do with all that fired-up energy once the room empties out?

This is where the session earns its keep, because a room full of applause wears off fast once you’re back in your kitchen alone with the same laptop you had last week. Layla Blunt, called up with her husband to collect a check neither of them had bothered to calculate in advance, says something that reframes the entire exercise before it turns into another motivational high that fades by Tuesday.

As Layla Blunt puts it, “I am the richest person in the world right now.” Not because of the figure on the paper. Because of what the work had already given her that no number could measure. That’s the internal shift this whole segment is angling toward: the check is proof for the room, but it was never the actual goal for the person holding it.

The practical takeaway isn’t complicated, even if it isn’t easy. Pick a window. Ninety days works because it’s short enough to stay honest about and long enough to actually show something. Do the same specific actions inside it every day whether or not anyone’s watching. Stop measuring your ninety days against someone else’s five years. And when the moment comes that you feel that twist in your chest watching someone else’s proof, let it be information instead of an insult. It’s telling you the door is open. Whether you walk toward it or fold your arms is the only variable left in the room.

And he knew me because we were both producing back then. This guy has been producing for a long time. And you can talk about whatever you want here for a second, but something significant happens this weekend. And I thought it was just cool that you've been building your business part-time for the last how many ever years you've been online.

And not only that, but it's a beautiful thing to see your wife now getting more and more involved. So over to you, brother. Just congratulations. Extremely part-time.

And, guys, this is what getting fired from full-time corporate job looks like. Hey, real quick, how much did you make a year at your job? About 85. And this is three months?

This is three months? This is three months. Just being clear. And 85 doesn't go that far in New York.

That's awesome, man. So, yeah, extremely part-time. So we've been doing this for about 15 months. And wait until we go full-time.

This is just the start. Well, he has to now because he was fired. Congratulations. Thank you, guys.

One of us is going to make $250,000 in the next 90 days. Is that going to be me or you? I said, ah, damn it. He wouldn't let me wussy out.

And I'm going to call you to task and not let you wussy out. I believe. Do you believe? I believe.

I believe. Do you believe? Yes. Now say, I believe.

I believe. Hey, dude, you rock, man. Actually, hey, just want to be clear about what actually happened there is Rob had a lot of the same people on his list that I had on my list. And I said, Rob, they're joining anyways.

And you'll lose a quarter million if you don't because they'll join with me. And it's actually more in it. How much you made here now total? Yeah, now, so I was actually, like, low balling on it.

So he made $200,000 extra because I didn't, you know, some people say, hey, don't let him quit. And I was like, hey, go ahead and quit. I'll make the quarter million. Hey, give me a hand.

He's not being a wussy. Rob Ford's awesome, guys. Rob, Rob, Rob's an extremely talented. When I just look around at the talent in this room, too, I'm just constantly blown away.

You want to take this? Yeah, it's honestly because of all of you. You know, we're here at the Get Money event, but I know that everybody's leaving here with something that is just so much more valuable than anything money can buy. So we're grateful.

And then kind of went off and did a couple of things. And, you know, I just want to tell you and Jones, because these guys are just… There's Chris Jones. Make some noise for him.

That's Chris Campbell's partner right here, Chris Jones. These guys are talented, man. I don't know what's on your mind, but I just want to tell you that I appreciate you being here, brother, and you're just an absolute rock star, man. Awesome.

Well, I appreciate you guys equally as much and everything you guys are doing. But, you know, what's crazy about this check is two things. The first thing is the number on this check represents part-time work. Now, Empower is the only home-based business kind of deal that I'm doing because, let's be honest, I mean, it's the best thing since Al Gordon ended the internet, right?

I think so. But, you know, I've got some other little internet. Things that I do here and there. But this is definitely my favorite thing that I do and the most enjoyable.

But the other thing that's crazy about this check is for the last like three and a half, four months, I've been kind of totally AWOL. Chris Jones and I were building a direct mail system to promote exclusively Empower Network that we're really excited about. So for the past like three and a half, four months, there's been no advertising money going into this check. There's been no…

Calling. Which I don't call anyway for anything because we don't need to in Empower. But what's crazy about this is because of work that I did in the past that I've already done and filled up my pipeline, this check represents not only residual income, but the power of the automatic upsell process that these guys do to sell the other products for you guys. So, again, let me emphasize, because of work I did before and no work during this period of April, what, first quarter, that's what this number represents.

40,000 a month. So crazy potential, guys. Final thought that I want to leave you guys with, two most powerful words, tenacity and perseverance. If you guys apply those to your life, to your business, tenacity and perseverance, you guys will be able to take this business, Empower Network, to heights that you can't even fathom right now.

So stick with it. Don't give up. Push through. You guys will get there.

I'll be brief. You know, my first event I was brand new was in Atlanta You know, I went in the room. I was very very skeptical and I'm gonna be honest. I with the job.

I've worked That whole event. I literally was just in and out of the room working while I was at that event caught the vision though Decided to do a 90-day rent run came back to San Diego Basically met my my sponsors in person Dave and Dave pretty much for the first time and and I got to know him They put me on stage had a blast down there. But again, I worked that whole time I mean I was there in and out of the event working I mean it was just too strict to be able to get that much time off work But I in bursts of activity I made it happen still going part-time came to Austin.

In fact in Austin I had such a hectic work schedule there I'm not even sure if you remember or not But I I had to leave Saturday night to go to a business to go to a work event on Sunday I mean, I'm in Austin running as much as I can doing team stuff and everything had to delegate and had a jam out But you know I'm I'm more proud than ever right now because this is the very first event that I've been to in Years now that I've been this entire event haven't had any other work to do right now Just be able to hang out with friends family be able to hang out with all my extended family here 5,000 my closest friends actually, and it's been absolutely My words of advice to you is this you know It's like just persevere get through it You can do a part-time if you need to do a full-time if you need to just get through it this this business freaking rocks Man, and for all the women out there all you super women you rock Hey, hey, hey guys I know a lot of times other companies say you can do it part-time But you know the only people making any money are like 80 hours a week We've actually got a bunch of part-time people who thinks that's cool I mean It's like a part-time incomes of twenty and thirty and forty thousand dollars a month It's great.

I I'm still blown away by it truthfully. Yeah, crazy. Yeah, it's awesome like this John Rose It's a man a hand John I've known for years right and This is awesome, dude, it's just great to see you succeeding at a bigger level. I appreciate I mean It's like you say just comes these guys have said it over and over again.

It just comes down to belief You know everyone's talking about struggles out here. It's just don't let your struggles get in your way Just focus That's really it. Hey. Hey, John, man.

I'm just everybody give him a hand Hey, can I tell him can I tell him a quick story about so we're doing our first event right and I'm trying to find Speakers right and I just knew John was a marketer I did not know that like at the time. He wouldn't speak no matter what all right and So you know I sent him an email I say hey man I'm gonna have you speak and and like I'm used to people like you know People in the audience are like please just let me speak. I don't want to earn it I just want to speak on stage.

Yeah, it's like a normal network marketer, you know and John emails me back He's like Dave. I'm so sorry. You know I'm so sorry. We've got you know, he's a DJ to you know over in, Florida So he's like I got a DJ show that weekend.

I really want to go to the event, but I can't and then I was like He really wanted to go and I knew he wanted to go so I hit him back I'd like did you don't have to speak if you don't want to he's like, oh, thank you. I'll go I'm really excited about Well, look how confident he looks you guys think he looks confident on stage Hey, I'm proud of you brother. Any anything else you want to say you think they can do it man Do you think thanks to the prosperity team as well? Give John and Rose a hand for speaking Good job.

There you go You know what? This is uh, this is our this is the fourth event. We've been to and the Fourth check I received like this this one being for the last 90 days I think and it's a really cool feeling to be able to actually say that to get used to doing this to you to get used to getting these you know to get used to earning this type of incomes, but a huge blessing for for us and our family and Like who shouted out proof earlier? Who was that?

That person is there you yeah, see this. This is what we do this for It's not like it's the cool thing about this is is that we don't do this to show off but this is part of the Belief process you guys see that we're just regular people just like you guys and that when you apply yourself and you believe and you Take action and make a decision This is the kind of stuff that you can achieve and you can do as much as you want or more and and it's it's It's really all up to you guys and when you take action to make a decision you can you can live your dreams and do what?

You want you know it's many That's about it We're both on she I don't think I don't think she wants to say anything But you want to say anything big and power network is great It's been life-changing and like you said we're just normal people We're not you know when you think we don't have any special secrets like everybody wants to know It's just anybody if we can do this anybody has a secret. This isn't a year or two years This is the last 90 days and to be honest, you know, there is no data in our back office as far as I know the current back office that gives us a tally of the rankings of the leaders in terms of their income over the last 90 days we have last seven last Thirty and just all time So I had no idea what my positioning was in this group and then I get they tell me to go to the back of The group right and I get back there and I'm standing next to Erin and Sophia and then you know a couple other people that I won't ruin the order of it But then I started counting, right?

Vic was last, of course. And I'm like, dang, I'm fifth in the last 90 days. And all that to say is, as you're building your business, as you're marketing, as you're doing anything, you cannot take your head off of your goal to see and look and wonder and ponder about what somebody else is doing. The only reason that this is working for me, in my opinion, is because I mind my own business, okay?

And I focus on my goals and I just do what I need to do every single day consistently without fail. And so I just want to encourage you to just decide what you want and to actually believe that you can get it. Keep your head down. Don't worry about your neighbor.

And just consistently work on beating yourself every chance you get. So I want to thank all of you. I want to thank the Dream Team because these guys… These guys are awesome.

I just share quickly because I know that there's a lot still to come. And there's some more people in the back that are waiting to come out. And I can just tell you, when I first started in home business, you know, I knew from the moment I saw that this industry was working by coming to my very first event that I was going to do whatever it took for however long it took so that I can live my dream. And I was not going to quit.

It had nothing to do with money. It had to do with what I could use the money for, which was exactly what we do here to empower other people. And don't think for a second. Because you see us standing up on stage.

You know, I think I can quote our good friend, Nicole Cooper. You know, you see the glory, but you may not know the story. And every single one of us on stage has sat in those seats where you guys are sitting right now. We all started with a dream.

We all started with a vision. And our vision fit inside of the vision of other people. And so when we saw Empower Network here about 18 months ago, we had been looking for some new vision. We had been looking for people to align ourselves with that had a vision that was just as big or even bigger than ours.

And so it was no-brainer for us when we met Dave & Dave. And I always say we didn't know about the company. We didn't know about the comp plan. We didn't know about 100% commissions or what these products were all about.

But we knew enough about Dave & Dave to know that we knew enough that we wanted to be a part of this. And this has been the single best business decision of our careers. And I can tell you guys that we are in the right place at the right time with the right people, but most importantly, for the right reasons. And I just want to thank our team for giving us the opportunity to lead you.

And I burst into laughter, and I said, $12,000 a month is easy, dude. And he was like, I don't think I could do it.

Well, this is, what, a year and a half later. This is three months. Slightly more than $12,000 a month. It is crazy.

Like, my heart is pumping. I don't know. I don't know. I didn't actually know what I made.

I'll tell my story tomorrow. That's just shocking. You don't need to check anymore. No.

No, I'm free. I mean, I don't, I don't, the money's, I'm free. You know, you budget when, like, I suppose we should probably all budget, but, you know, it's like, Lawrence is frugal, and he just, like, spends money, and he makes more than he spends. And so he doesn't even know how much he makes, because he probably doesn't even look in the bank account anymore.

It's, it's just crazy. But I, I know this isn't from my production, because I've only been doing, like, five to ten hours a week. I've had some stuff happen in my life, and I want to give a shout out to my two assistants, Andrea Severia and Tracy Reuter. You know, a lot of this would not happen without them two.

And I'm just amazed that the team with our merger and just, just following the plan.
