If you want to see the average earnings, please visit the page at www.empowernetwork.com forward Hey, what's up, guys? My name is Dr. Steve Shiner, and I want to welcome you to this Inner Circle audio. In this audio, I am going to give you the five keys to recruiting doctors and other professionals into your network marketing business. Now, a lot of people have come up to me at different events over the years asking me how it happened for me, how I got started in network marketing, what did they say to me, how did they approach me, what got me thinking about it, and what ultimately got me to make the decision to get started.
So many people have asked me that question over the years that I wanted to share it with you in this audio because I think a lot of people would love to have doctors and other professionals in their network marketing business, right? They have money. They don't have excuses, although we're going to talk about some of that in this audio. But before we do, before I give you the five keys, I want to answer that question. I want to tell you how it happened for me, and then I'm going to give you the five keys that you can use when you're talking to or considering approaching doctors and other professionals for your network marketing business.
So again, my name is Dr. Steve Shiner. If you don't know me, I live in South Florida. I'm a board-certified optometric physician, so I'm an eye doctor. I've been an eye doctor for 17 years now.
That's a long time, longer than I thought. And ironically for me, I became a doctor almost by accident. When I was in college, I changed my major three times. I started as an accounting slash finance major, and then I changed to investment banking, and then I changed to biology slash pre-med, because I had no idea what I wanted to do. I didn't have a passion.
I wasn't one of those kids who, when I was eight years old, knew what I wanted to do. I had no idea what I wanted to do. When I started college, the movie Wall Street with Charlie Sheen and Michael Douglas was really popular, and I thought I was going to get rich being an investment banker. I was going to be the next Gordon Gekko. Needless to say, that did not work out.
But when I started college, I'm like, hey, I'm going to be in finance, right? I'm going to be in investment banking and international finance, and good God, it just bored me to death, literally bored me to tears to the point where I was not going to class. I just couldn't take it anymore. It was debits and credits, and look, movies make everything look glamorous, and if you can make accounting and finance look glamorous, boy, you're doing a good job. Glamorous is not what it is, and I was so bored that I wasn't going to class.
That was not me. I was always a good student. I never really had to work that hard to get good grades, and I was always good at math and science and didn't have to put in a lot of effort to do well. That's what ultimately got me to change my major from accounting and finance to ultimately biology slash pre-med because I went back to what I was good at. After that, I still had no idea what I wanted to do.
Now I'm taking courses that I'm actually interested in and can do well in, but I don't know what I'm going to do. One day, I've had bad vision my whole life. For those of you that wear glasses and contacts, I was a minus seven, so I'm blind without glasses or contact lenses. I grew up in an optometrist's office. Every year, going to get my prescription checked, getting my prescription bumped up, getting new glasses, getting new contact lenses.
One day, I was sitting, this was in college, sitting in my optometrist's office, sitting in the exam room chair, just looking around, going, you know what? I can do this. This doesn't seem like it would be too hard. It's inside. It's air conditioned.
It's not heavy lifting. I can work for myself. I can control my own hours. It was a conscious decision for me because I actually took the MCAT also. I considered going to medical school instead of optometry school and becoming a neurologist or a cardiologist, but I always wanted to have time for a life.
I wanted to have time for a family. I didn't want to be woken up at three o'clock in the morning with an emergency. I didn't want to be called away from my kid's birthday party with an emergency. I didn't want to be living my life at a job, at work. I think a lot of you listening to this audio can relate to that.
I didn't want to be living my life at work. I made a deliberate conscious choice to say, you know what? I'm not going to go to medical school and become a doctor to the point where I'm going to have to do surgery at all hours of the day and night and emergency calls and go to the hospital and all these different things. I didn't want to do that. I became an optometrist knowing that my emergencies would be limited.
My hours would be controlled by me and I could work for myself. Now, if any of you know me, you know that I don't do well having people tell me what to do. I've never been one of those people. That factored into my conscious decision to become an eye doctor because I knew I could start my own practice and work for myself instead of being an employee working for someone else having someone tell me what to do. I didn't like it.
That also weighed into my decision. Here I am 17 years later. I work for myself. I have my own practice. It's a successful, thriving practice, but it's 17 years later and I'm still doing the same job.
A lot of people are. That's true for a lot of people. I can't be fired because I am my own boss and I can go on vacation and take time off whenever I want to, but you also have to remember, and this is something you need to think about with doctors and professionals, especially when they own their own business. For me, I have no paid time off. I have no sick leave.
I have no paid vacation. If I do get sick, which I rarely get sick because I take care of myself, but when I do get sick, I go to work because if I don't go to work, I don't get paid. When I go on vacation, I have two kids, by the way. I'm married and I have two boys. They're nine and 11.
I live in Florida, so we go to Disney World a lot, but when I go to Disney World, if I go to Disney World for four or five days, think about this for a second. I'm away from my practice, so I'm not seeing patients. I'm not making any money. No money is coming in, and I'm at Disney World spending money. At home, I have to pay to keep my practice open.
I have to pay my employees. I have to pay all the overhead, and then I'm on vacation, so I'm basically spending money in two places at once and no money is coming in. That's true for a lot of doctors and other health professionals who own their own practice. When they go away, they're not generating any revenue. Here's the other thing.
My income is limited by the amount of patients I can see any given day or week or month. I'm just one person. When I go away, my employees can't replace me. I am the doctor. I'm a sole practitioner, so I'm the only doctor in my practice.
My income is limited. I can only see so many patients in a day, and on top of that, we have now government regulation of health care. What that means is we have people that are non-health professionals deciding how much the services of a doctor are worth. I've got someone who doesn't know me, someone who's never practiced my field of medicine telling me how much my services are worth, and guess what? No surprise, it goes down almost every year.
What that means is most doctors are working more to make less. That's why more and more practices are so very busy because they're trying to see as many patients as they can every day. That's why you feel like you're being whisked in and whisked out. You go home and you're like, I waited for an hour and a half and the doctor spent four minutes with me. I'm sure you've experienced that.
That's one of the things I absolutely try not to do in my office. We actually emphasize personal attention and patient care because we want people to be happy. We want people to come back, but it also still limits my ability to see a certain number of patients in a day. The point I'm getting at, guys, is that one of the reasons that opened my eyes and got me looking for something else was I realized I was never going to get rich. I was never going to break free and have the time freedom and the financial freedom I wanted if I kept doing exactly what I was doing.
I knew something had to change. I knew I had to do something different. That realization was the biggest factor for me in opening my eyes, opening my mind and saying, you know what? I've got to see what else I can be doing in addition to what I'm currently doing. Let's face it.
I spent a lot of time and a lot of money getting the degrees that I have. I spent a lot of time and a lot of money building up the existing practice that I have now. I think if you talk to most doctors and most lawyers and most accountants and most architects and most other professionals, they wouldn't be excited about just walking away from what they've invested so much time and money in. As you know, in network marketing, that's not what we're asking people to do. We're saying, hey, you can do this on the side of what you're already doing.
I'm going to talk a little bit more about this when I get into the five keys of approaching or recruiting doctors and other professionals into your network marketing business. Guys, the strategies that I'm going to talk to you about here can be applied to any network marketing business. You know that I use Empower Network as my primary source of income, but the strategies that I'm going to teach you can work for any network marketing business, but I just want you to understand my psychology, my thinking, because it's not exclusive to me. It's not exclusive to me, and we're going to talk about that with the five keys. I went to a bunch of seminars to try to figure out what I could do.
One of my favorite seminars that I went to that really opened my eyes to the possibility of creating passive and residual income was called The Millionaire Mind Intensive. It was a T. Harv Ecker event. If any of you have ever read The Secrets of the Millionaire Mind, you know exactly what I'm talking about. If you have not read The Secrets of the Millionaire Mind, you need to read that book.
You need to read that book. I don't care what business you're in. You need to read Secrets of the Millionaire Mind. It's one of the best books. It's one of the first books that I read in personal development, and it really opened my eyes to my relationship with money, how I was raised to think about money, my parents and their attitude towards money, and how it reflected on me growing up, so a really good book.
When I was at this seminar, I realized that there was more to life than just going back and forth to a job every day, spending God knows how long in a car, commuting both ways, dealing with traffic, getting up early to an alarm clock, trudging into work, doing the mundane tasks that we do every day over and over again, getting back in the car, driving home, and doing that for 40 years. People think that we in the network marketing business that are in the home business, the MLM industry, they think we're crazy, but I think crazy is getting in your car and going back and forth to a job you hate for 40 years. I think it's crazy. I like my job. I like what I do.
I'm a people person. I like helping people in my office, but there's a big difference between doing something because you have to and doing something because you want to. I still go to work. I still go to my practice every day, but I go there about three hours a day now. I used to go to my practice six days a week, 10 to 12 hours a day.
Six days a week, guys. I worked every single Saturday, and I told you I have two kids, so I was missing everything. I was missing basketball games and soccer games and football games and when they're having parties and doing day trips to the zoo and all this. I was at work. I was at work, and let me tell you something.
You think it sucks getting up Monday morning and going to work? Try doing it on Saturday morning when your family is off. My wife and kids are going to go out and do something fun with friends and other family members, and I've got to go to work. I have to go to work because it's my business. I run it, and if I don't go to work, I don't make money.
I was doing that for years and years and years. I hated it. It sucked. Ugh, Saturday morning, go to work. Most of you work a nine to five, you work five days a week, and that's great.
Well, you probably don't think it's great, but it beats six days a week, doesn't it? Silver lining, right? All of this stuff played a role in my decision to say, hey, you know what? I spent a lot of time and a lot of money becoming a doctor, but I can't do this forever. I can't provide for my family like I want to.
We can't drive the car that we want. We can't live in the house that we want. We can't go on the vacations that we want. If this continues, I've got to do something else. Now, I talk to practice consultants, and they're like, oh, you've got to open up another location.
You've got to hire another doctor. You've got to get on more insurance plans. You've got to see more patients. Good God, no. No.
Open another location? Now I'm working more. Ugh, no, I couldn't do it. I had to start thinking outside the box, and that's where I started going to these seminars and these events and listening to guys like T. Harv Eker and the trainers that he has at events and started reading books, you know, Think and Grow Rich and Psycho-Cybernetics and again, Secrets of the Millionaire Mind and the 4-Hour Workweek and Killing Sacred Cows and all these books, listening to audios and just training my mind to realize that I can do whatever I want.
I can do whatever I want. I just have to make the decision to do it. And I'm one of those fortunate people that have a really, really supportive wife. She supports me 100%. She trusts my decisions.
She trusts my instincts, and she says, hey, if you think this is right for you and if you think this is right for us, do it. Go for it. I trust you 100%, and if you're doing this to help our family, then I support you 100%. And now I know a lot of people don't have that, but I'm fortunate enough to have that. So I'm at this Millionaire Mind Intensive, and for three days, I'm sitting there listening to this trainer talk about passive income and residual income.
And keep in mind, this is kind of like my entry into this whole world. And I went up to the trainer during a break, and I said, you know, you've been talking about passive income and residual income for the whole time that I've been here, and I'm an eye doctor. Like, I don't know anything about this stuff. They don't teach you anything about business and money in medical school. Nothing.
They teach you how to take care of your patients. That's what they teach you. So I said to this guy, I said, how does somebody like me, who has no experience, has a full-time job, a family, a practice, how do I start working on creating passive or residual income? Now this person, this trainer, happened to be in a network marketing business. And he said to me, he's like, look, this is neither the time nor the place, but if you're serious about that, let's swap contact information, and I can talk to you a little bit more about how I do it, and we can see if it's right for you.
Now this guy was a world-renowned speaker and trainer. He was retired in his 30s. He was wealthy, successful, educated. He was a speaker and a trainer. I had already made up my mind, whatever it was he was doing, whatever it was he was going to present to me, I was doing it.
Because he had so much credibility with me that I was in. You know, if he told me that he was shoveling elephant poop four hours a day, and it set him free financially, I was going to go out and buy the biggest shovel I could find. Now obviously that's not what he was doing. He was in a network marketing business, and I was in before I was in. You know what I mean?
Again, mentally I had made my decision like, I'm in. I'm doing this. I don't care what it is. If this is the vehicle that he used, I'm in. So we got together later on.
He presented to me. I was in. I was in. And I spent, this is a traditional network marketing business, right? This was one of those things where the first action that I was supposed to take, the first action that I took was, make a list of 200 people in your life.
Your friends, your family, your neighbors, your co-workers, your ex-co-workers, whatever. And I did that. I am really good at following directions. So when they tell me what to do, and this guy, again, made a lot of money. He was financially free in his 30s.
He was a trainer. He was a speaker. Whatever he told me to do, I did. You know, if he said jump, I would say hi-hi. It was that simple.
I am really good at following directions, especially when it comes from somebody who has what I want, who has the life that I want. So I did it all. I did it all. I did all the traditional stuff. I made a list of names.
I called everybody in the world. And guys, when I tell you that I showed the plan more than anybody, I followed up, I went to all the events, I got trained up, I studied, I learned, I implemented, I did it all. And that's what got me looking for more education, more training. How can I do this more effectively? And that's what got me to Empower Network.
I actually was approached with Empower Network as a way to promote my network marketing business. I wasn't recruited into Empower Network as an opportunity. I was introduced to Empower Network as a way to promote what I was already doing. In fact, somebody almost called me out. He said, you're in a network marketing business and you're not using Empower Network to promote your network marketing business?
And I had no way, I'd never heard of Empower Network before. He made me feel terrible. I'm like, no, I'm not. I'd never heard of it. Oh, dude, you got to check it out.
He's like, you can explode your marketing and you can reach a lot more people online and instead of calling people, you can blog and people are going to find you online and I'm like, holy cow, this sounds unbelievable, right? Hang on one second, I just need to take a sip. So that's how it started for me. That was my journey and I just wanted the time freedom and the life freedom. I just wanted to work less and make more and that's what started it for me.
You know, income disclaimer, results not typical. I've had $3,000 days. Again, income disclaimer, results not typical but my point is the opportunity to replace the income for a professional is real. That's what has allowed me to work a lot less in my office than I do now. So for those of you thinking, well, you know, for a doctor to replace his income would take a lot of money, maybe, maybe not.
You don't know that. You don't know that and I'm going to talk more about that. I'm going to get into the five keys in just a second but that's what has allowed me to cut down the amount of time I spend in my office and I got news for you. I'm a lot happier now. I'm a better husband.
I'm a better father. I'm more present. I'm not as stressed out and therefore I don't snap. I don't have a short temper anymore. You know, look, I mean, for those of you that have met me in events, you know that I'm a pretty happy guy, right?
I've got a great sense of humor. I smile a lot. I joke around with people a lot and there's a reason for that. Like I'm happy with the direction my life is headed. If you ask most doctors and lawyers, they might not be in the same boat and I'm going to get into that.
So let's talk about the five keys, okay? I know you've been anxiously listening to, anxiously waiting for that as you patiently listen to my story but I think it's important that you hear where I came from and how it happened for me because it's going to relate to a lot of other people, a lot of other doctors, a lot of other professionals, okay? So let's start with the five keys, like how you can recruit doctors and professionals into your network marketing business and again, it doesn't matter what network marketing business, okay? These strategies that I'm about to tell you will work for any business that you're in. Okay, so number one, you have to remember that doctors, lawyers and other professionals, they're just people.
They're just people. So you can't get intimidated by their fancy job title, whatever it might be. You know, doctor this, a master's in that, you know, he's an attorney, he's an architect, he's an accountant. They're just people. You know, if you were at a cocktail party, you wouldn't be reluctant to talk to somebody if you didn't know what they do.
But I'll tell you something, I know a lot of doctors and I know a lot of other professionals and they're all really, really nice people. They're really nice people. They don't look down their nose. I'm sure you guys have all heard, oh, doctors have a God complex. They think they're superior to everybody else.
Well, there may be a few of those out there, but in my experience, that's not the majority. It's the very small minority. Doctors are just people and they're usually really nice and they're usually really friendly. Remember doctors are in the business of taking care of others. They're usually nice to people.
And you know, the same is usually true for other professionals. Most professionals are in the people business, so they tend to be pretty nice to people. For the most part, yeah, there are exceptions, but for the most part, they tend to be pretty nice to other people. So you have to remember that a doctor is a title, it's a job, it's not who they are. It's funny, most of you know me as Dr.
Steve, but I'm not the type of person who would introduce myself as Dr. Anything. I used to go to parties and events and stuff like that and I would say, hey, my name is Steve. I would write down on my name tag Steve and I would fill out my registration form as Steve. It's actually funny because I'll just throw out a quick shout out to Arthur Tubman and Chris Record, both of Team Take Massive Action.
When I first met Arthur at my very first event, Arthur started introducing me to others as Dr. Steve because he knew me as Steve, he knew I was a doctor, and he said, hey, this is Dr. Steve. And it just stuck, and people started referring to me as Dr. Steve, people started knowing me as Dr.
Steve, and it almost became my brand. That's how people knew me, it was my brand as Dr. Steve. So I don't introduce myself as Dr. Steve because of an ego thing, I do it because that's how people know me now.
I have a blog, I've done Super Saturday trainings, I've been on webinars and stuff like that, so people know me as Dr. Steve. So if I say, hey, this is Steve, they're like, who the hell is Steve? But if I say Dr. Steve, they say, oh, I know Dr.
Steve. So not all doctors have the kind of ego that you think, they don't all look down their nose and snub the little person just because they're not a doctor or they're not a professional. So just remember, it's their job, it's not who they are, they're just people, so don't be intimidated by their job title or what they do because they're just people. They put on their pants one leg at a time, they eat, they sleep, they poop, they do everything that you and I do. Doctors, lawyers, professionals, they all do the same things that we do.
They get married, they have kids, they have a home, they're just people. So keep that in mind when you're thinking about talking to a doctor or health professional or other professional. So that's number one, they're just people. Number two, don't assume their success. This is a big one.
And I'm going to tell you a story from my personal history. About three and a half years ago, this was when I was already in the process of a network marketing company, not Empower Network, but the one before this, busting my butt, working my job full time, I told you, six days a week, 10 to 12 hours a day at my practice, and then going out and showing the plan in the evenings, going to trainings on the weekends, listening to audios and listening to seminars and all this different stuff. So I'm working full time plus. My wife was pissed. I was never around.
I mean, I was working it hard and we weren't seeing the results. And several years ago, the economy was even worse than it is now. My practice was down like 40 something percent in revenue. So we were having trouble. We were having trouble financially.
We were having trouble paying the bills. And I was having trouble paying the mortgage. I was having trouble paying the mortgage to the point where we were getting threatening letters from the bank, foreclosure letters from the bank saying, hey, you need to bring this current or we're going to have to foreclose on your house. Now think about that for a second, guys. I'm a board certified eye doctor.
My wife is a speech therapist. So we are two professionals working in the health care industry, getting letters from the bank that they're going to foreclose on our house. Now nobody knew this. I wasn't openly advertising this or talking about this to anybody. But that was the reality of the situation.
We were having trouble paying our bills. We were borrowing money from our family, our parents to say, hey, can you help us out? We can't make the mortgage payment. I mean, I think five months went by and we didn't pay the mortgage. And I got to tell you something.
As a father, as a husband, as a provider, there's nothing worse. There is no worse feeling than not being able to provide for your family, than not being able to say, hey, I don't know how I'm going to keep this roof over our head. My wife and I were talking about where we were going to live. Whose parents are we moving in with? And she's like, I'm not moving in with your parents.
And I said, I'm not moving in with your parents. So we were stuck. What are we going to do? And this was just a few years ago, guys. And the point to this story is don't assume that someone is successful just because they're a professional.
Just because a doctor has his own practice or a lawyer or an accountant or an architect or whatever. I'm sure I'm forgetting a lot of different other types of professionals. But don't assume that because they put on a shirt and tie and they go to a professional office every day that they're successful. They may just be broke at a higher level. Sure, they may drive a nicer car.
They may live in a bigger house or a nicer neighborhood. But they might just be broke at a higher level. They might just have bigger bills, private school, all this different stuff that they have to pay for, and they're struggling. But you might not know it because they keep up the illusion, the facade. Don't assume that they're successful.
Don't assume that they're happy either. Because like I was working all hours of the day and night, there's a lot of these health professionals who work tirelessly. And I've got news for you. They might hate their life. They might hate their situation like I did.
They might hate going to work before the sun comes up and coming home after the sun goes down. You see your kids right before they go to school and you come home and they're in debt. What kind of life is that? So don't assume that these guys are successful. Don't assume that they're happy and that they just want to keep plugging away at what they've been doing for as long as they've been doing it.
Don't assume any of that. You don't know. You don't know what's going on. Nobody knew that I was struggling. Nobody knew that I couldn't pay my mortgage and that I was getting foreclosure letters from the bank.
Nobody knew that. So don't assume because these guys are professionals that everything is peaches and cream for these guys. It's all rainbows and lollipops because they might hate their life. So the third key is ask questions. Ask questions.
Just like you would, I always use the cocktail party example, ask questions when you're talking to them. Hey, how's business? Are you busy? Are you slow? Oh man, do you work a lot of hours?
Do you like what you do? Do you still enjoy what you do? Are you getting paid what you're worth? Has your income changed? Are you happy?
Have you guys heard of Form? You guys have probably all heard of Form at this point. If you're in any network marketing business, you've heard of Form. We all get trained about Form, F-O-R-M, which is Family, Occupation, Recreation, and Money. So those are the questions you ask, right?
Family. Oh, how's the family? Are you married? Do you have kids? Oh, where do they go to school?
Oh, what does your wife do? What does your husband do? Right? Occupation. Oh, how's work?
How's business? How long have you been doing that? How did you get into that? Do you work there full time? Do you like it?
Are you making a lot of money? No. Do you like your boss? Recreation. Oh, how's work?
Sports. Vacations. Do you read a lot? Watch movies? What do you do when you're not working?
And then, of course, there's money, right? Are you making the kind of money you want? Are they paying you well? Are you happy? Right?
You know, Form. You guys should be familiar with Form by now. But you ask these questions to find out if they are happy with what they're doing. And this is real casual stuff, guys. You don't ask it the way I just did.
I just fired off a bunch of different questions. When you're at a ... I had this conversation with somebody the other day who just approached me in the worst, most unprofessional way to look at their network marketing business. And I had this conversation with her. And basically, imagine you're at a cocktail party and you're meeting someone for the first time.
You don't walk up to someone and go, hi, my name's Steve. Let me tell you about my network marketing business. No. You don't do that. You say, hi, my name's Steve.
Oh, John. Hey, John. Nice to meet you. How do you know Marcy and Frank? How long have you lived in this neighborhood?
What do you do? Oh, how long have you been working there? You guys, you have a conversation. You have a conversation. You do the same thing with professionals.
Find out about their life. Find out if they're happy or they're miserable. Find out if they're ready to jump off a bridge or they love what they do. You just ask questions. And that's important because without that information, you don't know if you should even talk to them about what you do, if you should even approach them about looking at what you do.
So that's step number three is asking questions. And then step number four is you want to solve a problem for them. You ask those questions to get information from them. So how can you help them? How can you solve a problem for them?
Can you solve a problem for them? And guys, I can't emphasize this enough. If you can't solve a problem for them, if they don't have a problem, if you don't think that they need or want to hear about what you have to offer, then don't. Don't be weird. Don't push it.
Don't force it. Not everyone is a good candidate for your business. Understanding that is going to make your life a whole lot easier. You have to know when to drop it, when to walk away, or not even bring it up. Asking those questions is going to reveal whether they're a potential candidate for you or not, whether you should even mention it or prospect them.
But you can find out. Say, if you're an internet marketer, you can find out if you can help them market their business more effectively. Say, hey, if they say business is down, maybe they need to market more effectively to create new clients or patients. If you're in a network marketing business that has vitamins and supplements and things like that, maybe you have something that they can offer to their patients that can help them with weight loss or nutrition or whatever. Can you help them solve a problem?
Can you help them with their patients or with their clients? Or can you help them work less? Can you help them spend less time in their practice or their office? If they have expressed to you that they're working way too much and they're really not happy, they spend their whole life at work, they've opened the door for you to say, hey, you know, I know how you feel. I used to be the same way.
Feel, felt, found, right? And I use this a lot. Oh, God, I know how you feel. I used to do the same thing. I know how you feel.
I felt exactly the same way because I was working in my practice six days a week, 10 to 12 hours a day. But then I found dot, dot, dot, right? Feel, felt, found. I know how you feel. I felt the same way.
But then I found. So if they give you the opportunity to say something, then say something. But if they don't, then don't. Don't. Don't be weird, okay?
So the last one, the last key is have patience. And no pun intended. You know, I don't mean have patience like a doctor has patience. I mean, be patient with them. Okay?
Because the thing you have to understand is that regardless of how happy they are, regardless of how successful they are, doctors and lawyers and accountants and architects and all of the other health professionals, they're busy. They're busy, right? They've got stuff going on. They're busy at work. They're busy with their home life.
They're busy. So they're going to blow you off, and they're going to cancel on you, and they're going to reschedule on you, and they might do it repeatedly. You just have to be prepared for that. You have to understand. You have to be understanding, and you have to be patient.
Because here's the cool thing, guys. If a doctor qualifies themselves or a professional qualifies themselves with you, with the answers that they've given to the questions that you've asked, you know about their situation now, they have a lot of motivation. They have a lot of motivation, and usually, they have a little bit more money than the average person to get started, right? They're not going to say to you, I don't have $25 to get started, or I don't have $197 to get started, or whatever the amount is. They usually have enough money to get started if it's the right opportunity for them.
So oftentimes, it's worth it to have them in your business, so you need to be patient. You need to understand that they're busy. But as they say, you should always be adding names to your funnel anyway, so don't get emotionally invested in anybody. Hopefully you know that by now. You should never, ever, ever get excited or emotionally invested about anyone.
I don't care if they are a doctor, and they have lots of money, or they're a lawyer, or whatever. They have lots of motivation, a big why. You are not them, okay? And we can't want it for them. We can't make them do it.
So don't get overexcited about someone that has not even started in your business yet. Don't get emotionally invested. Don't get excited. Just keep moving forward. Keep talking to other people.
Follow up with them, but be patient with them. I actually appreciate it when people follow up with me, because I'm so busy, I forget. Oh my God, thank you so much for calling me back. I totally forgot. Yes, I'm glad you called back to me.
Yes, I still want to get together for lunch, absolutely. So you just need to be patient with them. So those five things are really important, and the biggest one, I think, of those five things, in my opinion, is don't assume that they're happy or successful, because I think that is the biggest factor that prevents people from even talking to a doctor or health professional. Oh, why would he ... He's not going to want to talk to me about this for my network marketing business.
He's a doctor. He's got a busy practice. You don't know. You don't know. You know what happens?
You've heard the expression, what happens when you assume, right? You make an ass out of you and me. Don't assume. Yeah, these guys spend a lot of time and a lot of money becoming the professional that they are, but they might hate their lives, like I did, and they might be looking for a way out. They might be looking for an opportunity that sets them free from the rut that they visualize themselves in, and like me, they may think that there are no other options, because they spent time, because they spent money, and because they've been working in the same profession for years and years and years, with this fancy degree hanging on the wall, that there's nothing else that they can do, and you and I both know that's not the case, but until someone tells them it's not the case, shows them it's not the case, they won't know, and I am the perfect example of that.
I'm the perfect example of that, because I took it upon myself to say, I can't keep doing this. There's got to be a better way. There's got to be something else. I cannot see patients, I will not see patients into my 60s and 70s, working 60 hours a week, never in my life. life and then when I retire, hope to travel and see the world and do all the fun things that I put off for the last 45 years.
No thank you. So you have to understand that if you know people in your life that are doctors and lawyers and other professionals, you don't know what's going on in their life or their mind. So don't make any assumptions that would prevent you from talking to them at least. At least having that conversation with them before you pitch them on whatever it is you want to pitch them on. Have a conversation first.
Just ask the simple questions in basic conversation. Don't be weird. Just ask those questions in conversation. Find out what their situation is like. You know there's a lot of other people facing foreclosure, having trouble paying their bills, dealing with private school, or oh my god I got two kids going to college next year, I don't know how I'm gonna pay for this.
Bing ding, you know that's that's a green light right there. I don't know how I'm gonna pay for that, right? My wife lost her job, my husband lost his job, whatever, my kids braces, my son started driving, we need to get him a car. There's all kinds of things that people will say in a conversation that tell you, you know what, their money situation probably isn't what I thought it was. And I can't tell you how much this industry has done for me.
I mean I'll give you an example. It's 11, I'm recording this video, it's 11 20 a.m. I'm sitting in my house, I'm wearing shorts and a t-shirt. It's Tuesday. So you understand what I'm saying guys?
I mean this industry has done so much for me. Yeah I spend a lot, my parents think I'm crazy, but they see I'm making money and as long as I'm happy and taking care of my family, my parents are happy. They don't understand it because they supported me in my journey to become a doctor and now they're like, I don't understand, you don't wanna be a doctor anymore? There's nothing to do with not wanting to be a doctor anymore. It's having to do with the life that I want to live, the lifestyle that I want to have.
I can be a doctor forever. I can go to, I can work one hour a day if I want to. I will always be an eye doctor as long as I maintain my license, right? But guys, you have to understand that there's more to a person than their job title. Even more so with a doctor or health professional.
It's just what we do. It's just what we do. You know, I'm wearing shorts. I go out and I don't walk around in a shirt and tie and my lab coat, my doctor's coat all day every day. No, I do that at work.
It's my job. So guys, I wanted to share this with you because first of all, a lot of people ask me about it. So obviously there's some interest in speaking to doctors and other health professionals, but I wanted to share my story because I think a lot of people can relate to it and I wanted you to understand that even as a doctor, I struggle or struggled. Well, not so much anymore, thank goodness, but struggled. Just a few short years ago, couldn't pay my mortgage.
So I hope you got some value from this Inner Circle audio, from the tips that I shared with you because I think it's pretty practical stuff that applies not even just to doctors and other health professionals, just to people in general about how you can talk to them. But specifically, you know, obviously I know doctors better than most because I'm a doctor. I know what it's like to talk to other doctors, but in reality it's just, they're just people. They're just people. So if you know someone that you have a relationship with and you've had conversations with and you know, so you know what, I really know he could benefit from this and I just don't know how to talk to him about it.
I just told you how. I just told you how. So guys, thank you so much for listening to this Inner Circle. If you got some value out of this, if you enjoyed this, please leave comments below. I'd love to hear your feedback.
