Not Making Money Yet A Motivational Talk For Struggling Networkers

David Wood stood in front of a room of Empower Network members and told them, one by one, that they were kings and leaders of nations, that a light was lighting up inside them, and that the company they had joined was not a company at all but a people.

He named them one at a time

The talk is built almost entirely out of direct address. David moves around the room naming people as he speaks to them: D, Justin, Kevin, Darren, George, Mike Hobbs, Tracy, Rob, Mars. To Justin he says, “you are a king.” To Kevin he describes a light “lighting up inside of you and it’s spreading around… to all the world.” He tells George, “you have gifts, gifts that you don’t know that you have, light inside of you that’s more than just a marketing message, more than just an email.” To Mike Hobbs he says, “You are a leader of nations and you’ll step into greatness you’ve never known.”

Every sale is bigger than a sale

David frames what the group does as something beyond transactions. He tells the room:

As we stand in our vision and we realize that we’re just not a company, we are a people, a people that are there to empower the world around us.

He extends that idea to the daily mechanics of the business, telling them that “every decision that you create is not just a decision to buy, every decision that you create is a decision that changes somebody.”

The second million, and the armies to come

David turns to money and momentum directly. He says, “The first million took a long time, the second million is going to come quicker is what I believe.” He tells the room he believes it will “turn into armies, not just an army of a room of people not making money, an army of a room that’s bigger than this, a room bigger than this of diamonds.” Speaking to Rob specifically, he says his “biggest check has not been made” but that this next one will actually be cashable, because the team and the leadership will be there to carry the weight: “we’re going to be here for you, we’re going to be here for your team so you can let go of that burden, it’s in the past.” He tells Rob he believes his breakthrough is happening right now, in that moment.

A closing word to someone who wasn’t there

Near the end David addresses someone absent from the event, telling them, “I know that you couldn’t be at this event but you can be at the next one because I see the light in you and I believe in you and I believe in what we’re doing and I want to let you guys know I’m here.” He closes the talk abruptly, saying he can’t talk anymore, and asks the room to shout out their thanks for coming.
