Cooking and grief share this blog and Terry Arkin makes no attempt to keep them apart. The kitchen posts are properly taught, starting with getting everything in place before the heat goes on, moving through braising, and spending two posts on how flavour is actually built rather than added at the end.

Then the other material arrives, and it is heavy. She tells her own journey with breast cancer across more than one piece, sets out addiction recovery in two parts, and writes about adoption as a choice rather than as a last resort. One post is simply about standing at a graveside and finding something to say.

The connection between the two halves is not decoration. Somebody who has been through those things still has to feed people, and the recipes read differently once you know.

There are practical posts on goals and on the negative thinking most people were raised into, and they are the weakest part.

The kitchen series rewards being read in order. The personal posts are there for the day you need them.
