Overcoming Discouragement

Restored from the Empower Network archive (2011–2017), lightly edited to meet our current advertising standards. Views are the original author’s.

Are Your Days Defined By Discouragement

Do you have days where you wake up full of discouragement? If we are honest, we have all had those days. Starting a new business, a new project or even going back to school can at times seem overwhelming which brings on discouragement. Facing your discouragement is not always an easy task. There are times when we allow discouragement to take over. When that happens we find that not much in our lives gets accomplished. Over the years I have allowed to dictate my life, well no more!

Overcoming Discouragement

Through the years trying to overcome discouragement has been a trial, mostly because I tried to do it myself. Trying to change your thought process from discouragement to encouragement is difficult when you don’t replace the negative thinking process with a positive thinking process. When days of discouragement present themselves I have a few things to do that help to change my thought process.

The first thing I do is to open a little ceramic box I have sitting on my desk and pull out a scripture and read it (sometimes over and over). If I am still battling the discouragement thinking I will pull out my Bible and begin to read. I also have 4 sets of meditation CD’s that I will listen to and get into that secret place with God and allow discouragement to become encouragement. I also journal because I find that when I put things done on paper, as I am writing the negative issues that I am dealing with I will find the answer. Journaling is an amazing avenue to use to clear up your thought process. I also have several books that are encouraging sources for becoming successful in whatever endeavor your are tackling and so rereading them is beneficial. Our stinking thinking gets us in a lot of trouble because we don’t accomplish all that is possible for us to accomplish and then we beat ourselves up for not doing all that we know we can do.

Admitting Your Discouragement

It is fare healthier and more productive to admit to yourself when you are dealing with discouragement. Without the admission it is impossible to change it. Here is some honesty from me: As I have been trying to build this business (Empower Network) I have dealt with my fair share of discouragement. It has reared it’s ugly head several times and each time I have had to take steps to deal with it. I allowed myself to compare my results with others (not a good thing to do), I have allowed discouragement to come in because my blogs are ranking where I wanted them to and then I finally said, “No More.”

Working at a fast turtles pace  is working for me. Most everyday I get up and meditate about what I want to blog about, I compare my idea with Google Adwords and then think about what all the training I have done has taught me and begin to put that training into action. I am not allowing the discouragement to dictate who I am or what I am able to accomplish. Since I have chosen to work on correcting my attitude I am seeing results, they may not becoming as fast as what I would like but they are nevertheless coming.

Don’t Allow Discouragement to Defeat You

We are all going to have good days and bad days, but we don’t need to allow the bad to out weigh the good. We have at our fingertips the tools we need to overcome this mindset, we only have to reach out and use those tools. Change your mindset from being defeated to overcoming. I have typed out my goals and the steps to reach those goals and I have them hanging on my desk so that when discouragement comes my way I can read what I can accomplish to how I am going to accomplish it and that helps to keep me motivated. I may not be where I want to be but I am not where I use to be. I am pushing forward. My business through Empower Network is going to be extremely successful because I have the tools that I need to get there.  Join me and push through all those negative thoughts that say you can’t and believe when God’s word says that we “can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”  God wants us to be successful and that means we can be successful in our business ventures as well.

Ask Yourself Today, “What Steps Do I Need To Take To Change My Mindset and then begin to take those steps.”

We can all be successful in building our businesses, whether it is Empower Network or another one, we won’t all have the same results as another person on our team, but we will have results, the kind of results we have depends on each of us.
