Is Negative Thinking Holding You Back?

Restored from the Empower Network archive (2011–2017), lightly edited to meet our current advertising standards. Views are the original author’s.

Negative Thinking

The sad truth is that we are programmed from childhood to think negatively. That results in us believing to expect bad instead of good. All of us have dreams of what we would like to achieve in life but our thinking holds us back. We want to believe that good is going to happen but we end up wavering in our hearts. When we waver it ends up destroying our faith and hope. Negative thinking eventually will cause up to abandon our dreams and we end up living our lives in an atmosphere of frustration and despair. Does any of this sound familiar.

Abandon Negative Thinking and Embrace Confident Expectation

Negative thinking will eventually lead us into fear which is the breeding ground for unbelief. Do you remember as a child that you dreamed big dreams which had no limits? That is where we need to be today, to dream big dreams with no limits and to expect those dreams to happen. Unfortunately for the majority of adults we have lost the ability to dream. We’ve ended up comparing ourselves to other, we have been encouraged to put our imaginations away and to conform to what society dictates as acceptable. Well, it is time to step out of that mold and begin to use our imaginations as we did when we were children, to take the limit off and to confidently expect our dreams to come to pass. Don’t let negative thinking kill your dreams for your future. Take Action now and begin dreaming again.

Jay Adams says, in his book “The Christians Counselors Manual,” that it only takes 3-6 weeks to develop a habit.

Dr. Jim Richards expounds on this, “A godly habit can be developed in the same length of time it takes to develop and ungodly habit.”

If we can develop the ability to believe what God’s word says instead of focusing on the problem the the limitations that we have placed on God to move in our lives will be removed.

Dr. Jim Richards goes on to say in his book “Taking The Limits Off God”, If we practice taking control over our thought, rejecting negativism, and nurturing positive faith thinking, in six weeks we will have laid the foundation to change the course of our entire lives. Six weeks is a small investment to make for so great a return.

It’s Time To Meditate On God’s Word Instead Of Being Stuck In the World Of Negative Thinking

It is time for us to meditate(ponder) on God’s Word, to use our imagination  towards our God-given ability to DREAM. Dream Big! All deeds of both men and women were first conceived in our imagination. (If you can conceive it, believe it, you can achieve it)–Dr. Jim Richards

Success is persistence in reaching a desired goal (dream it first), despite how long it takes. Failure is giving up (negative thinking) before the goal is reached.

As hard as the next statement may be for many of you to believe it is nonetheless true: We must assume personal responsibility for what we believe.

Choose to change your negative thinking into positive thinking, dare to begin to dream as you did when you were a child. Dare to believe that what you are dreaming will happen. In scripture it tells us to have child like faith, tap into that once again and watch things in your life begin to change.
