If you want to see the average earnings, please visit the page at www.empowernetwork.com forward Hello, this is Roy Harris again, and this is the second part of my Inner Circle audios. This is the second part of the book, 13 Steps to Success, which I wrote a few years ago. I want you to have access to all of the information you need to, if you haven't yet, please listen to the first part of the book, of my Inner Circle audios, because without that, you can't continue. The most important thing you can do in your life is to find your purpose, to find what it is that drives you, and then to focus on that thing, that purpose, whatever it is in your life that you want to attain, because only by knowing what you want, can you possibly ever do those things which will get you there. This section is how to get there, but if you don't know where you're going, what good is it if you get there or not?
It's very important to listen to the first audio, capture that purpose, know what it is you want, and then focus on that, and then you can continue with these steps. Step four is what are your goals? Do you have a navigation system in your car? You still carry a map? Do you use your smartphone?
How do you get from one location to another, if you don't know how to get there? How do you get from one thing to another in your life, if you don't know how to get there? You must have your purpose, and then you can start working on how to attain that purpose. And it's extremely important that you have the purpose, the focus in mind, and you are definite that nothing is going to steer you away from that you want, that you desire, that is worthy of your desires. So let's continue with this, setting goals.
What are your goals? Now what are goals? Once you have a purpose in mind, and you know exactly what it is you want, then goals are just the stair steps to get you there. If you were going to take a trip, and you wanted to visit all the state parks, because you have the time freedom and the money freedom, because you don't have to worry about time and money anymore, once you own your own life. So let's say you're taking a trip, and you want to visit all the national parks.
Would you just take off down the road? I mean you may have complete time freedom and money freedom, but you still wanted to see all the national parks. It's not likely that you can head on down a road, and you'll have it, that you would actually be able to see them all, because you wouldn't know where they were. They're not always really obvious, if you don't have a map. So if you wouldn't take off cross country on a trip like that, without knowing where you're going, why would you not have a navigator for your life?
Why don't you have a GPS for your life? Is it not far more important than a trip or a vacation? Like I said, be very clear on what it is you want out of life. And that has to be your focus. It has to be what's utmost in your mind.
If you're not clear on that, go back. Go back to the first audio. Get very clear on what it is you want out of life, and it has to be your primary focus. We talk about the law of attraction. Because of the secret, that's become really, you know, that became really big.
And then it kind of lost traction, because, oh well, I want this, and it's not coming to me. The problem is, you think you want that, but it's not what's on your mind all the time. Until you know, and you're very clear on what it is you want, you can't attract those things. Like I said, that is the most important thing you can do in this life. Then once you know that, then these other steps are just one, two, three.
You just set goals, and you attain each goal that helps you attain what it is you want. So be very clear, otherwise you're just going to float aimlessly around in an ocean of infinite opportunities. When you choose to set your goals, you're setting the direction of your life. You're moving in a purposeful direction, with a clear understanding of the ultimate destination. You could say, one who sets their goals is a captain of the ship, the master of their destiny.
I love the poem Invictus, and if you're not familiar with it, it's a great poem. It's one of the things that led me through my childhood. It led me out of my poverty. Like I stated in the first audio, my parents were dirt poor, had no education. I lived in a, it's as nice a neighborhood as we could.
It wasn't like a slum building or anything. We had a very, very little house, but we had nothing. For several years, my sister and I had to share a room, which seems ludicrous these days, but back then, if there was only two bedrooms, well, you had to, everybody just slept in the same room. In fact, in the old days, everybody slept in the same bed. It wasn't any big deal, but as my sister got older, then I had to move out on the couch and sleep on the couch.
My mom was very concerned with her and having her privacy, and I understand that as a father, obviously now, and as a grandfather, but back then, I was like, I have to sleep on the couch? Why can't she sleep on the couch? It doesn't work that way, anyway. I don't want to digress on that, but it's just, if it hadn't been for listening and searching for the knowledge of how to escape poverty, I would still be in that mindset. I would still be in that environment.
I have no doubt because most of the people that lived in that neighborhood, they still live in that neighborhood or a similar neighborhood, which is pretty bad, but that's just the way it is. We form habits, and then habits take over our life. It's very important that you know what your habits are, and you set your habits by the goals you set. When you set your goals, you're setting the direction to your life. You're moving in a purposeful direction with a clear understanding of your ultimate destination.
You could say, one who sets their goals is the captain of their ship. Like I was saying, the poem Invictus is something I learned very, very early in life, and the last lines is, you are the master of your fate, you are the captain of your soul. That's so true because if you have control of your life and the things that are happening to you in this life, those actually are some of the things that we can take with us. So you own your own soul, and nobody else owns it. Never allow somebody else to own your soul.
So get back to goals. Do you have your goals clearly written down? Do you have goals for all areas of your life? Because balance is essential. It's not just, oh, I want to make a lot of money.
In fact, that's a horrible goal. So you have to have a spiritual side, you have to have a physical side, you have to have a mental side, and you have to have a monetary side, and they have to all be very, very clear. And when you read your goals, do you feel inspired? For many reasons, most people do not set goals. Some people don't know how to set goals.
They don't know how to achieve them, and therefore do not bother setting them. Or they just, they're like New Year's resolutions, you just, well, I quit setting them because I'm never going to keep them anyway, so why even set them? So a lot of people feel like that toward goals. They are not prepared to do the work. They are afraid of what they'll have to sacrifice.
They don't believe in themselves. They don't invest the time to really think about it. Basically, they're just lazy, or they procrastinate. Now you will become increasingly more creative and play an active role in the creation of your goals as we go through some exercises here. So I want you to follow along.
Like I said, this isn't just an audio to listen to. There'll be things that I will like you to do, because you only gain 10% of those things that you hear, but more like 80% of those things which you do and incorporate in your life. Napoleon Hill said, Cherish your visions and your dreams as they are the children of your soul. The blueprints of your ultimate accomplishments. Your visions and your dreams, they're the blueprints of your ultimate accomplishments.
When we decide on a goal, it's usually not the goal we want. It's the feeling we'll get when we achieve the goal. Ultimately, what goal setters truly strive for is a feeling, a state of being such as happiness, peace, joy, or ecstasy. And if your goal doesn't make you feel happy when you're thinking about it, you're never going to accomplish it anyway. So you need, that's where we get back to your purpose, what it is you truly want in life.
Because if you don't know what you want, you're going to set goals that aren't compatible with you, and therefore you're not going to do them anyway. Goal setting involves making a decision about an outcome and writing it down. We could call this a dream with a deadline. That's what some people call goals. Desire is the starting point of all achievement.
That is the reason for the previous sections. Many authors put goal setting as the first step. But like I keep trying to drive into you, it's knowing your true passion and desires. Because if you don't know where you're going, you can't set goals to get there. Your goals will not be what you truly want, and therefore you will quickly abandon them.
When you set a goal, you are planting a seed. When you provide the seed with the proper nourishment and attention, the seed will grow. Everything that is required to manifest your goals is available to you through the energy and the natural laws of the universe. Everything is there. Everything you need is there.
You don't need anything else to start working, setting your goals, and accomplishing your goals. The ability to choose is our greatest gift. We have the freedom to dream, to choose to have, be, or do anything we desire. That is our birthright. Inherent within everyone is the ability to achieve any dream we conceive.
In order for the dream to become a reality, we must believe we can achieve it. When you set a goal, your mind behaves like a missile. Once a missile is locked on target, even if the target moves and changes direction rapidly, the missile will adjust to stay locked on the target. Similarly, when a plane is locked on autopilot, it will stay on course and automatically adjust. You have knocked off course.
When you set your mind on a goal, even if you stray from your course, you will put yourself back on course and stay committed to the goal. Keeping to a goal demands that you harness the power of concentration. We will continue working on goal setting in our next section. In Step 5, we are going to study how to set your goals. Let's recap again.
Set your purpose, then start working on goals to achieve that purpose. Now we are going to talk about, in Step 5, how to set your goals. There are basically eight steps to proper goal setting. You may have heard some of these before, but like we've said, it's hearing and applying something over and over again that makes it a habit, and then that makes it a part of your life. So don't discount anything that you heard before.
Just because someone else has said it, doesn't mean that it's worth less. In fact, if somebody else said it, and I'm saying it, then and therefore it must be worth more because I think it's important enough to share again. Step 1, Preparation. Step 2, Goal Categories. Step 3, Mental State.
Step 4, Brainstorm. Step 5, Set the Goals. Step 6, Segments. Step 7, Time Frame. Step 8, Prioritize.
Step 9, Goal Statements. Step 10, Review. I said there were eight steps, I think. There are actually 10 steps to proper goal setting. I'm sorry, I misspoke.
So the first thing you've got to do is prepare. To set your goals, start out with several blank sheets of paper and ensure you have no distractions. That's preparing yourself to set your goals. And then make sure that you have on the top of each paper, or on top of one sheet, you talk about spiritual, you talk about physical, and this is talking about your physical body, you know, like weight loss, those kind of things, how you interact with other people, and then finally your monetary goals. So your life must be balanced.
You must carry through all these steps. Well, in fact, I'm going to cover that in this next area. Step 2 is Choose Goal Categories. So before you start to write out your goals, choose the categories that you would like to have for your goals. Now there are certain ones you really need to have, and like I said, those are spiritual, physical interactions, and then monetary.
But you can have goals in other areas too. So it's very important that you have balance in your life. So these are some of the suggested goal categories that I can think of, and maybe you can think of more. Your career or business goal, your education goal, now this is not just necessarily going to school, but the books you read, the tapes, or the CDs, or the MP3s, or whatever it is you listen to. Goals with family.
It's very important to have family goals. And then your interactions with your friends, your social type goals. Then you should have a finance, savings, income, investment goal. You should have a housing goal. What kind of house do you want to live in?
Personal development, health, nutrition, fitness, skills, all those kind of things can fall under that. You should have travel goals. Where do you want to go? What would you like to do? Very important to have spiritual or religious goals.
You don't have to be a religious person. You don't have to go to church to have spiritual goals, but whether you believe in a God or a devil or, or whatever, you must know that there is some higher power out there that you can call upon at any time, and that universal source of power is what changes the ordinary into the extraordinary should have a goal on contributions, volunteer work, donations. Before you can actually ask for anything from the universal power source, you have to be willing to give. What are you willing to give? And you must give first before you ask.
And before you can receive, that's some, that's a mistake. A lot of people make is they don't, they, they want to, they want, they want, they want, but when the universal source comes back and says, what are you giving? What are you willing to give? If I give you this, what are you going to do with it? And that's the reason a lot of people don't get what they think they should get because they haven't decided what it is they're ready to give first.
And then, then you can start having goals about all the things you want, a boat, cars, those kinds of things. But you have some very important goals that should be in there first. And those are the things that should be motivating you and not necessarily what kind of car you can get, your family, your interaction with other people. Those are, those are stronger things. Those are things that will hold you.
Cars are so momentary. They're nice. I love, you know, nice cars, I have to admit, but they're just momentary things. Build on the things that are going to last. Build on the things that are truly important.
Now, step three is your mental state. Do you think you should be doing this? Do you think you should write down and set your goals when you've just had an argument with your spouse? Do you think you should sit down and write your goals when you just had a disagreement or argument with a neighbor, your boss, maybe you were just screaming at the kids? Is that really the mental state you would want to go into as you're setting your goal?
Now, I would actually suggest before you set your goal to get in a higher state of energy that you listen to some type of audio that's very motivating, very uplifting. There's several in the inner circles. Find something from Justin. He has a very, I think, very motivational, one's Tony Rush, but there's a lot and even David's and Chris Rusherlow's, you know, they've got really good things that will motivate you. So listen to something motivational for at least half an hour before you decide to sit down and write your goals.
You should be feeling great. And you can also, you know, be playing some upbeat music while you're writing your goals. I definitely would recommend that, something that's very, that really gets you moving so your blood's circulating. Start breathing deeply, inhale, exhale, breathe in, exhale, breathe out. So your blood circulating, start breathing deeply, inhale, hold it and then breathe it out very strongly and breathe in and with that breath, blow out all the negative energy that's inside of you and do that a few times.
Don't hyperventilate, but do that a few times and with each breath that goes out very strong, make sure that you're blowing out any negative energy you still have inside of you. Okay. Exercise briefly before, different things, meditating, things can put you in a higher state of being before you start writing your goals. And you don't want to start writing goals automatically. You want to brainstorm.
That's why you need full sheets of paper. Because you're not writing goals at this point, you're just writing stuff down. We call it in the business world, we call it the yellow sticky method. And you just write whatever comes to your mind. You know, if you're, if you're thinking of a family goal or a goal with your spouse or with your children, just start writing, you know, have that as your focus.
You got to be focused on that and then start writing down anything that comes to your mind. Anything. And then you'll, you'll weed those out. So there's no really any hard and fast rules about, you know, what a goal is or is not. If there's something you want to have, do or be in your life, then it is a goal.
Goals do not only refer to material items. Goals can be characteristics, personality traits, something that you want that you presently don't have. That's, that's a goal. A goal may be something that you currently have and you want to continue to have more of. Therefore, you have to make it a goal because it is a priority.
For example, if you currently have a very loving, passionate, honest, fun, caring, committed relationship with your life partner, then it is something that is vitally important to you. Then you should have a goal to continue and build on that. So it's not just things you don't have that you want. It's things you'd already have and you want it to last. You want it to get stronger.
Before we go to the next step, let's talk about smart goals. Now, this is where most people have already heard all these things, but it's important because people still aren't writing goals down. They're still not making their goals. So let's cover this again. Smart.
S stands for specific. M, measurable. A, achievable. R, realistic. T, time sensitive.
Okay. So make sure they cover all those things. And I'm sure you've heard those a thousand times, but you still haven't set goals yet, have you? So write these goals. Now, this is step five.
Write your goals as if you knew you could not fail and your success was absolutely guaranteed. Just write them so that they touch the sky. That anything was possible. Have that mindset that you can't fail. As you're writing these goals, do not prejudge yourself if you're writing goals.
Keep your thoughts positive during the process. If you notice thoughts entering your mind, like, well, how am I going to do that? Or I can't do that. Or any other negative thoughts, dismiss those thoughts immediately. Those are the things that hold you back.
Continue to reach for the sky. Always have definiteness of purpose. W. Clement Stone once told me that he always set his goals to touch the stars. And so even if he didn't reach a particular goal, he had still touched the sky.
Use your imagination. Think of limitless opportunities and believe you cannot fail because you can't. If you follow these steps. Write out the goal as they come into your mind. Do not worry about the structure of the goal or how you will achieve it.
Or the grammar. Just write down things as they come to your mind. And you can clean them up later. Use the following questions to help stimulate your thought processes right at your goals. Now, this is something you don't want to do while you're driving a car.
You'll probably want to listen to this part or go back over this part. When you are settled in and ready to write down your goals. So figure out what it is you really want to accomplish. Do you want to further your schooling type of education? Do you have an achievement in mind?
Is it to get your bachelor's degree in business? Is it to get a master's degree in engineering? Who knows? You know, what is it you really want to become? Think back to when you were young and people said, what are you going to be when you grow up?
As David Witt said, I'm going to be an Amway salesman. Pretty close. Pretty close. It's, you never, as you heard in the last session, you never outgrow the ability to be able to become whatever you want to become. Even if you're 80 years old and you, you can still, you can still go after the things you want to accomplish.
So whatever it is you want to become, if you want to be a better copywriter, if you want to be a philanthropist, if you want to be just known as a success in your peer group, if you want to be known as an outstanding parent, those, you know, you got to know what it is you really want to become. Then, then decide what skills you need to master. As you know what it is you want to be, then how do you go about attaining that? Or is it you want to be a better golfer? Do you want to learn how to play the piano?
You want to be able to better manage your time, be a better public speaker. Do you want to become a gourmet cook? What do you want to have? List out all the things you want to have, physical, material things. Because those drive some people, even though the spiritual, the family is, is a, is a bigger driver.
A lot of people are driven by that new sports car they can get. I'm going to get a Ferrari. I'm going to get a Ferrari. I'm going to get a Tesla, whatever. Or maybe it's a new home for your family.
Maybe it's a boat, new clothes, getting a personal trainer. Maybe you want to cook. Maybe you want a housekeeper. Maybe you want a two carat diamond ring, big screen TV, whatever it is, whatever turns you on. And then what would you do if you knew you could not fail?
Would you, would you try to climb Mount Everest if you knew you could not fail? Is that a desire? Would you learn to fly airplanes? Would you always travel first class? Would you become a multi-millionaire, a multi-billionaire?
Would you find the person of your dreams that you want to spend the rest of your life with? Whatever it is that you would like in your life and you, you knew that you couldn't fail, what would you go after? Then finally, like I said, the last thing should be your financial goals. What is it going to be? Your financial goals, what is it going to take for you to be able to leave your job?
You have to have that dollar figure down. You're paying for your own insurance, you know, blah, blah, blah. Any of those things that they say, well, this is why you have a job that you'll have to pay on your own. You need to incorporate those, but you can make way more money on your own than you can working for somebody else, even with the benefits. You know, you can't just say $10,000.
You can't just say $7,000 because that means you haven't actually calculated it out. You haven't really put the thought process behind it of what it takes to leave your job. And if you don't have that definiteness of purpose, you're never going to leave that job. If you don't know exactly what it takes. So, you know, when I reached this figure and I have reached it and it's consistent for three months, I am quitting my job.
That's the kind of information you have to have. That means nothing because you won't. What is it going to take to buy that new car? Have that figure in mind. We're entrepreneurs.
We don't buy things on credit. Credit is something we get, not that we give. Turn the figures around, pay cash, do what it takes, as Robert Kiyosaki says, get that income so that you can purchase that car, purchase that house. You may not have to, you may not purchase the house out cash, but any toys, cars, boats, those things are toys. I know it's transportation.
I can get from A to B in a Honda Civic as well as I can a Ferrari. I may not feel as good about it, but I can get from A to B. So if what you can afford is a new Hyundai or if you have that goal to actually get that Tesla or you get that Corvette or you get that car, that Corvette, then have that in mind and then go pay cash for it. The key point I'm trying to make here is let your money work for you rather than you having to work so hard for your money. If we would all do this, it would turn the whole financial world upside down.
Unfortunately, many of us don't. In fact, most of us, before we got into this business, were terribly deep in debt. We're terribly deep in debt. You're probably and you may be one of those that you've, you never, you never really know what's going to happen. And the credit card has just been an easy fix.
So our first goal that we probably should strive for is to get out of debt. And so that needs to be on your list, wherever, just make sure you have it on your list. Because debt is a slave and you're a slave to the debt and you don't want to be in that, that predicament. So as you're going through and figuring out what it is that you want, that's one of the things you, you should, you should do. Other things that you might, besides, you know, buying that new car is be looking at the kids' college education, or maybe you want to send them to private schools.
Those are expensive things. Anyway, start setting your goals by following the steps above. Without this roadmap, you can never know where you're going to end up. And if you do get there, you'd never know, because you don't have a goal set. If it can't be measured, it's only a dream and you might as well stay asleep.
Step six, segments. We don't eat the whole elephant at one time. We have to eat the whole elephant at the same time. We don't eat the whole elephant at one time. We, we break things up into segments.
And that's very, very key for everything in your life. You don't, you don't learn SEO overnight. You don't learn how to do web pages overnight. You don't go through the 15K formula overnight. You take it step by step by step.
So it's the same way with your goals. Be sure to break them into pieces. It's a lot easier to solve something if you're looking at pieces of things. It's fine. You know, be realistic in your goals but break them up.
Just break it up because it'll be easier for you to see. Step seven, time frames. Every goal is going to have a time frame. That's part of being smart is having that time frame. And that's what differentiates it from a dream or a wish is you have a time that you're going to make that goal.
Every goal that you set is, like I said in the previous section, step six, is you break it in pieces. Well, the easiest pieces to break things into are time pieces. So, if you say I want a million dollar ring by July of next year, then what will it take to get that million dollar ring? Break that down. Okay, how many sales is that a month?
How many is that a week? How many is that a day? How many is that an hour? That you would have to make to get that million dollar ring. So, break everything into its smallest segment.
And another reason we do this, and I covered this in the first section, the first audio, is our inner brain or the more animalistic brain is always fighting with our higher level brain. The higher level brain is, you know, our cognitive thinking. It's the brain we address during the day. That's the brain we talk to. The animalistic brain is the one that tries to keep us alive and tells us that, unfortunately, it tells us a lot of times, well, you know, you couldn't do that before.
What do you think you can now? So, and also, it's where the fear, the fight or flight response comes from. And so, when you trigger that, it's almost instantaneous. That it will tell you that, no, can't do that. I've got to run away from that.
It's going to try to escape from that because it's scary. It's no different than when a deer smells a lion or sees a lion. It doesn't stop to analyze, well, let's see how fast do I have to run? No, it just, you go. That's what the animalistic brain in our heads will do too.
It's going to tell us, go. It's not going to let us do certain things. So, you don't want to trigger that fear response. So, it's good to break things down into its finest points. As David Wood says, get to a day.
If you just get two $25 blog sales a day, then everything else takes care of itself. That's going to trigger your fear response like nothing else. So, you have to break those down. Timeframes, segment them down into timeframes. And so, make it small enough so it's attainable.
It's something that won't trigger a fear response so that you'll actually do it. And that's, like I said before, that's the Kaizen Principle. And it's a very fascinating topic in itself. You might want to study. Step eight, prioritize.
Well, now you've got to figure out what you want to do first and when you want to do second. So, once you have all the goals laid out and in the right timeframes, then you've got to figure out what you want to accomplish first. Because you have all these different sheets of paper, remember, and you have monetary goals and family goals and education goals. And so, what things are you going to work out first? And so, you've got to highlight those with a big yellow highlighter or whatever.
Put those up in big letters, you know, all these goals that you're currently working on. Make sure they're somewhere you can see them every day. This is where a lot of people fail. They'll write their goals down and stick them in a drawer and they never look at them again. So, it's incredibly important.
The brain is a repetitive machine. If it doesn't see something, if it doesn't hear something, and this is why we're going over a lot of stuff that you've heard over and over again, because the brain needs to have that reinforcement. And the brain will fixate on whatever it's told to do on a regular basis. That's just the way it's set up. So, you have to have them so you can see them and you should look at them every morning, at least, and every night.
And then, let your subconscious work at night and figure out how it's going to accomplish that. So, step nine, goal statements. This is something I stole from a good friend, Noah St. John. We've always, we've seen affirmations.
And who is it? It was on Saturday Night Live. Anyway, he would get in the mirror and say how smart he was and how good looking he was and all those things. Well, there you go. Your animalistic brain's like, nah.
You know, your mother always told you were the ugly child. So, it's a little hard to overcome that by standing in front of a mirror and saying, oh, how good looking I am now. Especially if you were told as a child you were an ugly, ugly, ugly, ugly kid. So, I like the way Noah presents affirmations. They're not affirmations.
They're affirmations. It's not even a real word except he invented it. Affirmations. Goal statements have to be powerful statements. They're written as if you have already attained that goal.
David tells you this all the time. These statements become what are called affirmations instead of affirmations because the difference, it may seem subtle, but our subconscious, it's a huge difference. When repeating an affirmation, you're telling your mind something you want to have happen. If your mind does not believe the statement is true, it will just ignore it. However, when stating the goal as an affirmation, you are telling your subconscious that you have already attained the goal and then the mind is calculating how it accomplished that goal.
So, when repeating the affirmation over and over, the mind is trying to figure out how the goal was accomplished and the answer will be supplied to you on how to accomplish that goal. Repeat the goal statement over and over again with conviction and sincerity. Your belief system will accept it as fact and show you how you did it. Goal statements use the power of thought. One level of creative energy and the power of word.
Another level of creative energy. When you consistently affirm a statement, it is only a matter of time before the energy of thought and word move into form and that's what we want. We want thought and word to become form and create an affirmation. When writing your goal statements, use the words, I am or I have to set the goal as having already been accomplished. The subconscious mind does not distinguish between what is real and what is vividly imagined.
We can go on a whole topic of that. But what an athlete can do when they are recovering mentally, the mental exercises they have to go through, the mind can't tell the difference. So, when you use the words, I want, the universe will respond and provide you with the experience of wanting the goal, not having the goal. Wanting something is always placing it in front of you and not claiming the goal as a choice and claiming the goal as yours that you already have achieved. The following are guidelines to be followed when creating your goal statement.
So, ensure each and every goal statement follows these guidelines. And you might want to take this down. Like I said before, write the goal in a present tense as if you have already achieved the goal using I am and I have. State your goals in the positive and choose your words carefully. For example, if your goal is weight related, ensure that you write out your ideal weight and use words such as slim, ideal weight, or healthy.
Do not use words such as fat, heavy, or overweight. Using ING verbs in your statement wherever you can. Driving, enjoying, celebrating, flying, cruising, singing, etc. For example, I, put your name in there, am proudly receiving the award for, put in the award, your million dollar ring. Verbs in the present tense will help you experience the feeling that you will have when you achieve that goal.
David tells you this all the time. You have to imagine that you already have that million dollar ring in your possession, if that's what your goal is. When writing out your goal statement, state your full name. For example, I, John Smith, am gratefully enjoying being an example of outstanding contribution to whatever. Ensure that the list of your top goals is written in your own handwriting, typewriter, or computer printed and clearly displayed.
When writing out your goal statement, be specific and clearly define your goal. So here's an example of a few, just so you can get it set in your head. I, Mary Smith, am happily enjoying the beauty of the view from the window of our beautiful cottage on the lake. I, John Doe, am enjoying driving my brand new convertible BMW. I, Jane Smith, am enjoying being at my ideal weight of 115 pounds.
I am fit and in excellent shape. I love to exercise and I do so on a regular basis. Did you catch all that? All positives. All positives.
And it was all stated as if it had already been accomplished. That's how to write your goal. I, John Doe, am happily enjoying running my profitable and successful business. I offer tremendous value to my customers. And as a result, they benefit from the use of our products.
Our revenue this year has exceeded last year's numbers by 200%. That's how you need to write each of your goals. And I bet no one out there is doing that at this point. So step 10 is review. Take the time to review your goal list.
Keep a copy of your goal list with you over the next week. Carry it in your pocket. Every time you put your hand in your pocket, you'll have this piece of paper. Take it out. Look at it.
Add to the list as ideas come to your mind. Goals can be added and removed from your list at any time. There's nobody standing behind you saying, oh, hey, you can't cross that goal off. It may be a different circumstance. Things happen in your life.
And certain goals can be modified. They're your goals. You can do anything with them you want. Don't think once you've put them on paper that they're set in stone. It's paper.
Draw a line through it. Or just modify it. But don't do it just because you're lazy and I don't want to do it. I put down that I'm going to lose 30 pounds. That's too hard.
I'm only going to lose 10. No, that's just wimping out. That's being a wussy. We don't accept wussies. Remember that.
There's no limit to the number of goals that you can be working toward. But if it starts becoming overwhelming, like I said, you can kind of cut back. Keep track of the goals list. If it's too many, then you don't want to fail at all of them. Just because you've got too many things you're juggling.
Just put some of them on the back burner. No big deal. Read your goal statements at least twice a day. Every day. The best time to read your goals is just before you go to sleep.
Is that this time your conscious and subconscious minds are the most receptive. This allows the subconscious mind to accept what you have written as a reality. Take the opportunity to read your goals throughout the day. If you're sitting in traffic, take out your goals. Read them.
If you're waiting in a dentist office, read your goals while you wait. Always be working on your goals. As you plan your day, verify that each action is one which brings you closer to a goal. If you're doing anything and it's not attached to a goal, then you probably need to stop doing it or you need to create another goal. You can always add to your goal list.
Share your goals only to people who will support you. If you think people will not support you and your goals, do not share your goals with them. This is important because it will allow you to avoid any negative input or possible non-empowering thoughts entering your mind. If people will support you, share your goals. You may find these people to be a great support and they may also intensify the energy.
It's the same principle of masterminding. Two minds toward the same objective can accomplish 10 times more than a single mind on its own. When reading your goals, say them out loud. Say them with conviction. The intensity will contribute toward building the beliefs and putting energy in motion.
So if you could have anything, what would that be? Dream big dreams. Suspend any disbelief. Imagine there are no limits. Be decisive and know your outcome.
If you follow the 10 steps to goal setting, your life will completely turn around. All the roadblocks that had been put up between you and your goals will start dissolving. The reason? Because now you have the powers of the universe working with you. All things are possible.
Try it. Prove it for yourself. Don't take my word for it. Go out and do it. See if it doesn't work.
Step 6. Moving forward with your goals. We are creatures of habit. Therefore, we must set a habit that influences our behavior patterns. Just setting goals and reading affirmations will not make us successful.
It requires action. These other things are important because as the goal statements are read, the law of attraction is engaged. This is how you can actually create your subconscious to be focused on what you want. As we were talking about in the first inner circle audio, you have to be focused on what you want. The goals get you the steps that you need to take to get there and then the universe starts working with you and the laws of attraction will work for you.
If you've never had any success with the law of attraction, that's probably where you were failing. Now you know what you must do to get the law of attraction to work for you. Taking action steps though is all the goal setting and all the focus. Those are extremely important. But now we have to take action.
Taking action helps this process along. So let me give you an example. Imagine that your goal is a small pile of metal filings and you're a magnet. Imagine the magnet is at one end of a long table and the metal filings are at the opposite The law of attraction is working, that is the magnetic force is attempting to draw the metal filings to the magnet. However, because of the distance between the two, bringing the metal filings to the magnet is not going to occur.
However, if you physically move the magnet toward the metal filings, the magnetic force will draw the metal filings to the magnet. So you see how this is working? The law of attraction in your life. The same principle works with achieving your goals. Taking action moves you closer to that goal.
It's that magnet moving closer to those metal filings. You can have the goal, you can think about it all the time, you can read your goal statements, but if you don't do anything about it, you will likely not achieve the goal. Tony Robbins talks about the overwhelming success that he realized at the beginning of his career. By the time he was in his late teens, he was running a successful business and making more money in a month than most people were making in a year. He was nicknamed Wonderboy.
When Tony was asked what contributed to his success, he said that he took massive action toward his goals. Not passive action, massive action. Taking action does not mean that you must take massive action. As long as you are taking some action toward your goal, you will be moving in a forward motion and using the creative energy of action. So that magnet doesn't have to run over to the metal filings.
As it slowly gets there, the magnetic attraction starts building and building and building just like the law of attraction in your life will as you are taking action toward your goal. Once you set a goal, ask this question. What will I do to take me in the direction of my goal and achieve the desired result? What will I do? It assumes that you will do something and this in turn causes you to take an action.
At first incorporating new disciplines into your life will feel foreign, especially if you start to do things that you haven't ever done in the past. So if you're wanting to run a marathon, if that's a goal, and you say I'm going to run 10 miles tomorrow, your body is definitely going to fight that and you're probably crazy anyway unless you're in really good shape. You'll probably need to work on a quarter mile, half mile, maybe a mile, build up to it, but at least you're taking some action. What will I do? Use that statement.
What will I? So it is going to feel foreign, and like I said, this is why you have to break the goals down into pieces that are not scary. Anyway, this creates a feeling discomfort, but if you persist, the new behaviors will start to feel like normal everyday activities, and that's the key. You want to make your actions toward your goals become habit. Habit changes everything.
I knew a girl who had broken her arm when she fell out of a tree. She had always been right-handed, but because her arm was in a sling for so long, she had developed her left hand to handle all of her daily tasks, including writing. It was awkward for some time, however, it finally began to feel normal to write with her left hand, so much so that when she had the cast and sling removed for her right arm, she continued writing with her left hand. At first, when you are adapting to new behaviors, it feels awkward and unnatural, just as it did for the girl trying to write with her left hand, but she persisted because at the time, she had no other choice. Actually, she did have another choice, the one many of us take when the going gets tough, just don't do anything.
Well, I can't write, I've got my arm in a sling, you'll have to write for me. No, she took action. We need to take action. So what actions should you take? Well, here's a suggested list.
Try and help you here. Find someone who can help. Create a mastermind alliance, a group of individuals who help support each other. That's why we have our Facebook groups and any other kind of group, because together we are so much stronger than we ever could be by ourselves. Search for the information.
The internet is jam-packed full of valuable and useful information. Start by being clear about your goal, then look for the answers. Ask questions, you'll find them. If you look, the answer will be given to you. The mind loves questions.
If you will pose a question to your mind every night, you will have answers when you wake up in the mornings. It may take several nights, but you'll get an answer because your brain loves answering questions. Make a plan, follow it. Do something daily toward achieving your goal. Creating a plan will take some time, but once you've done it, all you have to do is follow it and modify it if necessary.
If you fail to plan, you plan to fail. Complete this exercise at least a week after reading and stating your affirmations twice or more a day. At this point, your mind will have started putting the pieces together on how you're going to accomplish your goals, because your affirmation statements have now convinced your subconscious that you have accomplished your goal and has been formulating how it was accomplished. Take each affirmation, affirmation remember, goal statement, using your subconscious, map out a monthly, weekly, daily activity schedule. At the end of each day, write down a list of items you will accomplish which will bring you closer to your goal.
Each morning, plan out your day and how each task will be accomplished. Never end your day before the list is complete, and you will never fail to reach your goals. I think that's really important. Write out, and you can do this at night, you can do it in the morning, it works really well for a lot of people to have it written out at night, what you're going to accomplish the next day. Let your mind dwell on it as you're sleeping.
It still works. Then during the day, accomplish every one of those tasks, and you'll never fail to reach your goal. See? All this time you've had all this problem getting, reaching your goals, well, now you know how to overcome that. I think we're going to end this here.
I thank you for listening to this Inner Circle audio. I will be making a third Inner Circle audio, and it's going to start with step seven of the 13 steps to success. I hope you like these. If you would like a copy of this, just let me know. I can send you the 13 steps to success, and if you will just redline it for me and send back a copy so that I can make it better, maybe update it.
Like I said, I wrote this about three years ago, and I think these principles are consistent and constant. For the most part, I don't believe there's anything that's really outdated, but if you find something, write me a little note. I would appreciate it. Thank you very much. This is Roy Harris, and I'm extremely grateful to have this opportunity to speak with you.
Have a wonderful day, and I'll talk to you very soon. Be looking for audio number three, 13 steps to success.
