What can a 41 year old learn from a 15 year old kid with little resources?
I came across this wonderful video today on Linked-in.
It is the story of Kelvin Doe, a 15 year old living in Sierra Leone, Africa.
Kelvin, has been inventing things starting at a very young age.
He has invented, batteries generators, and transmitters all from using scrap and garbage parts in his community.
Kelvin is constantly overcoming challenges and having to manufacture solutions.
I have attached a video of his story below.
Before you watch his inspiring story, I want you to notice a couple things.
A couple things that stood out to me.
First his attitude. He is constantly smiling.
He is always overcoming challenges and does it with a wonderful attitude.
The second thing I noticed was he has a very clear WHY.
I have talked about what my why is.
Everyone needs to have a WHY.
It is the reason for your existence in your business.
When you are faced with overcoming challenges it is your WHY that keeps you focused.
It keeps you pushing through the adversity when it comes. And it will come.
This 15 year old’s WHY is very clear.
He wants to help his family.
That brings me to the final thing I noticed.
His clear focus.

Finally before you watch it, notice his clear focus.
Kelvin built a radio station from the materials he found in his village.
He was named DJ Focus.
In the video you can see how he got that name.

What I learned about overcoming challenges from DJ Focus
Yes a 41 year old burnt out insurance salesman living in America can certainly learn from a bright and beautiful 15 year old with no resources.
I learned watching this today about overcoming challenges.
Kelvin Doe overcomes challenges everyday.
Challenges to bring hope to a poverty stricken community.
Overcoming challenges to help and provide for his family at 15.
What am I feeling sorry about?
I learned today from this kid that I can bring a great attitude.
I certainly can not control everything that life throws at me.
But I can control my attitude.
I also learned that if you have a clearly defined WHY you will be successful at overcoming challenges.
If you WHY is big enough you will certainly plow through the tough times.
And finally I learned that focus is key to achievement.
