Detectives miss key Google search evidence in Casey Anthony case

An Orlando television station reported that the Florida Sheriff’s office missed an important Google search entry on the computer used in the home of Casey Anthony and her 2 year old daughter.

A computer search that could have changed the outcome of the trial and ultimately Casey Anthony’s fate.

The Google search was for “Fool-proof suffication” methods with the word suffocation misspelled.

The search was done on the Firefox computer browser that was primarily used by Casey Anthony.

WKMG reports that sheriff’s investigators pulled 17 vague entries only from the computer’s Internet Explorer browser, not the Mozilla Firefox browser commonly used by Casey Anthony.  More than 1,200 Firefox entries, including the suffocation search, were overlooked.

Therefore these 1,200 searches including the one for the “fool-proof suffication” methods were missed by the sheriff’s office who never thought to check alternative browsers.

Casey Anthony’s attorneys argued that her father George Anthony was searching the computer the day of her daughter’s death to cover the fact that she fell and drowned in the family pool.

However, that does not compute with the fact that the computer search shows that right after the search:

The browser then recorded activity on the social networking site MySpace, which was used by Casey Anthony but not her father.

This key missed piece of evidence could have dramatically changed the outcome of the trial.

Could this computer search discovery changed the outcome of the Casey Anthony case?

Since the Sheriff’s department missed the 1,200 entries from the Anthony’s home computer, they did not have the information to show to the jury during the trial.

The defense, however was aware of these searches.

Casey Anthony’s lead attorney Jose Baez wondered why the prosecution team never brought the information to trial.

The fact was the prosecution did not know about it.

A computer expert for Anthony’s defense team found the search before the trial. Her lead attorney, Jose Baez, first mentioned the search in his book about the case but suggested it was George Anthony who conducted the search after Caylee drowned because he wanted to kill himself.

Not knowing about the computer search, prosecutors had argued Caylee was poisoned with chloroform and then suffocated by duct tape placed over her mouth and nose. The girl’s body was found six months after she disappeared in a field near the family home and was too decomposed for an exact cause of death to be determined.

Two of the jurors on the case did comment that the fact that Caylee’s death could not be determined, there was not sufficient evidence that proved Casey Anthony killed her daughter.

The Florida Sheriff’s department did not ask for help with the computer searches from either the FBI or Florida Department of law enforcement and have not commented on these findings.

Personal Note:  This case continues to infuriate me.   Casey Anthony is free and evidence still continues to come out that shows her guilt.   I know we are suppost to trust our judicial process, but this is just plain negligence on the part of the investigators.
