The Million Dollar Question – “What’s In It For me?”

Restored from the Empower Network archive (2011–2017), lightly edited to meet our current advertising standards. Views are the original author’s.

Yesterday afternoon and evening, I was thinking about what I wanted to post about today an my mind wandered to thinking about all these marketers on Facebook, who continually ask me to like their page, click on their link, join their business.

Two thoughts came to mind, one last night and one this morning.

One of the thoughts was about how people’s social and business etiquette (old fashioned word!) disappears when they are online, the other thought was about the age old question – What’s in it for me?

It is a very important question, a question that everyone thinks, often in a split second and on a subconscious level.

As an example, you walk into a shop and you see a top and you think, “hmmm, I quite like that. I think it would look good on me.

You walk over, find the price tag, take a look…

…in split second you make a decision whether it is “worth the money” in your eyes. True?

Now, there can be different factors determining how you make that decision.

However, you still make the decision, is it worth it & what’s in it for me? i.e it will make me look good, the colour suits me, I will look sexier, I will look cool etc.

I recorded this video which explains this concept from more of a business level. Take a look and I’ll meet you underneath!

The Million Dollar Question – “What’s In It For me?”

So then, in our marketing we should always have that question in our mind, our lead/ future customer/client (what ever you want to call them) is always thinking from this point of view.

You’ve sent me a link – What’s in it for me?

You want me to like your Facebook page – What’s in it for me?

You want me to join your biz op – What’s in it for me?

Here’s a few thoughts a few examples you can use in your business:

“Have a look at this blog post, it will give you tips to help you get more leads”

“If you like my Facebook page, you will get access to training that is only available there, it will help you with your copywriting.”

“Click on this link and pop your email address in, you will get a copy of my e-book about blogging.”

You can see that in these 3 examples, there is a reason for someone to do what you would like them to do. They can see what is in it for them

So to wrap this post up, as your create blog posts, videos, emails and chat with people on Facebook, always be asking ‘what is in it for them?’
