My Letter To God 7/24/13

Restored from the Empower Network archive (2011–2017), lightly edited to meet our current advertising standards. Views are the original author’s.

Dear God,

I don’t understand a lot of  what you do and I don’t understand why you allow certain things to happen.

I know I’m just a man and I’m not arrogant enough to say that you answer to me, but I wish I could understand a little bit more.

It’s hard sometimes being human, we are so limited in our understanding.

You can see the end result, you can see the outcome. I suppose it’s like when I read a book if I know the ending, I can get through all the difficult, horrible bits with a knowledge that it will all work out in the end.

When I look at my life, I think of all the stupid stuff I’ve done, all the selfish things I’ve done, all the people I’ve hurt along the way.

Sometimes life hasn’t felt like it would work out for me, but I know that you can see what happens to me.

As I write this God, I am welling up with tears. I didn’t think my life would be quite like this. I’ve tried to do my best and be a good person, but I have failed many times, sometimes quite spectacularly.

I know through it all that you have kept loving me and I know that you keep forgiving me.

I wish sometimes I could get  glimpse of my future, just for a bit of reassurance that it will all work out and that I’m on the right path. Please guide me.

God, I do believe in you, I know a lot of people don’t and they have their reasons. I just pray and hope that I won’t be one of those reasons. I hope that some people will believe in you because of how I live my life.

Help me deal with my weaknesses. I think of times that I lash out at Kerry and speak to her in a rude and disrespectful manner, she was a gift from you and sometimes I don’t look after or honour that gift. Please help me.

I do often go off and do my own thing, ignoring your quiet whisper. I wish to walk more and more on your path. But it’s hard, it’s hard at times being human.

You know when I get mad I swear, I wish I didn’t. I pray that my mouth would become pure and good. I pray that the words I speak will bring life and light to the people around me.

God, thank you for reading my letter. Please hear my heart.

A Sinner Saved By Grace,

Keith
