Monday and Tuesday this week I had the amazing opportunity to attend a live webinar with the personal development legend, Mr. Bob Proctor. When I heard about it I knew I would do whatever it took to be there, even though it was a total of 10 hours over the two days!
You might say that’s a big investment of time just to hear someone speak, but when you get involved in real personal development, you will understand the importance of getting around people who will stretch you and who know what they are talking about!
Bob Proctor is one of those people. He has been studying personal development for 52 years, so I’d say he knows his stuff!
The main focus of the webinar was purpose, vision, and goals. Bob explained what each one is, why it’s important, and practical ways to use each one. Over the next few days I want to do a post on each topic so that others might understand how to use purpose, vision, and goals to accomplish anything they want in life.
Purpose
Have you ever wondered why so many people tell you to “be yourself?” It’s because there
is only one of YOU, and in order to fulfill the purpose you were put on this earth to fulfill, you must be YOU.
You are unique, one of a kind. Not one single person on this planet has all the same abilities, talents, and personality that you do. No one else thinks like you or cares about all the same things.
Why is that important?
It’s from these specific talents and gifts that you’re able to define and determine your definite purpose … the reason why you’re here.
You see, like many others, I have made the mistake in the past of thinking that my purpose was supposed to be something that I was meant to do, whether I liked it or not. I thought it was supposed to be a lifelong mission of feeding the hungry or clothing the naked; some selfless and charitable act.
However, thanks to the webinar with Bob, I have learned that your purpose is really just whatever you really love to do and are good at. Usually when someone has a talent, they love to do that thing. Like those who are talented actors usually love acting. Those who are talented at sports love to play sports.
Those people who are talented in something, and then turn it into a career because they love it, have found their life purpose.
And here’s the best part, they really ARE serving others through living their purpose!
Anything you do, especially if you do it well and with passion, will help others in some way or another. What you do might inspire, educate, entertain, provide jobs, encourage, uplift, or support those you connect with by doing what you do.
The world goes round by each and every person doing whatever it is they are good at and that they love. Focusing on mastering one thing is way better than trying to do everything. You become a “jack of all trades, master of none” when you fail to focus on one thing. Figure out what you love and what you are good at, and focus on mastering that one thing.
You might be saying, “Well I’m not particularly good at anything” and that’s OK. If that’s you, think about the things you love, and something will pop out at you. Even if you aren’t that great at the thing you love to do, you can develop that talent over time and become a master at it. But I’m willing to bet you are better at it than you think
If you have struggled to find your purpose, I would suggest you do what Bob told us during the webinar…each morning spend an hour alone in a quiet place with a pen and piece of paper. Ask yourself what you love to do and what you are good at. Write down anything that comes to you. Eventually, through doing this every day and getting more in tune with yourself and your inner voice, your soul will help you discover what your purpose is.
It might take 3 months, but I promise it will be worth the time spent! Your purpose will provide you with direction for the rest of your life. And by doing what you love, you will be happy and be able to fully enjoy your life.
One more thing before I wrap this up, many will protest that they can’t just “do what they love” because doing what they love won’t pay the bills. But the thing is, it will. You might not see right now how your purpose can make you money, but it’s all part of the process and the idea that holds the answer will come to you in time.
If you are interested in furthering your personal development and mastering your thoughts in order to change your life, I highly recommend the book “Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill. Bob Proctor reads that book like it’s the bible and swears that everything he has accomplished in his life, including making millions of dollars doing what he loves, is due to applying the principles in that book.
