Sunday Inspiration – The Pursuit of Happiness

Sunday is my favorite day of the week, as I suspect is the case with many people. It’s the day most of us take as a rest from the chaos of the week and prepare for a new week.
This is why I make it a point to get inspired on Sundays. I get inspired to prepare myself for another week that can either be good or bad depending on the choices I make and the thoughts I think.
Since diving into personal development earlier this year the most profound and eye-opening thing I have learned is the true origin of happiness.
I think most people hold the belief, either consciously or subconsciously, that happiness is a direct result of outer circumstances. We say we will be happy when we get married, when we get that new job, when we start making more money, etc.
This belief is programmed into our minds when we learn at a young age that life is about “the pursuit of happiness.” No one ever tells us that in fact, we can be happy right now if we choose.
Have you ever wondered how people in the most dire of circumstances can be so happy and cheerful, while those who seem to have it all are miserable?
Why is that?
Because happiness is a choice, and it comes from within.
While having more stuff and being successful can make it easier to make the choice of happiness, it can also make being happy extremely difficult when we work so hard to get those things with the belief that it will make us happy, and then we get them and are no happier than before.
This is why I think that learning how to be happy (before learning about success and money making), is one of the most important things a person can learn.
Think about this as you head into a new week. If you have been struggling to be happy, decide right now that you will make a conscious effort to be happy this week. Take notice of how the week goes when you make that choice!
One more thing before I go spend the day with my family, internet free…
When I say that happiness is a choice and we can choose to be happy, I do not mean that we should sugar coat everything and never allow ourselves to feel emotion.
I am simply saying that when we focus on the good, and choose, most of the time, to be happy and grateful, we will be much happier over all.
When we choose to be happy now instead of always being in the pursuit of happiness, our lives will be happier overall.
Yes, there will be moments of unhappiness, and moments where we will feel negative emotions. And that is absolutely OK and is part of the experience of being human.
My point is that happiness does not come from our outer circumstances, it comes from within, and it starts with a choice. It is the choice to think positive thoughts the majority of the time.
Enjoy your week, and may you choose to be happy now!
