Pre-planning to create profitable blog

Restored from the Empower Network archive (2011–2017), lightly edited to meet our current advertising standards. Views are the original author’s.

When it comes to creating a profitable blog, planning for this blog is a very important step.  When I first got started blogging I had no idea what to blog about.  You can see this by taking a look at the various “categories” that I have on my blog.  Ranging from things such as “Marketing Tips” to “Philosophy” to random things in the category titled “Uncategorized,” I was all over the place.  And typically when your goal is to create a profitable blog you want to surround your content around a certain niche, hobby, concept, or whatever you’re passionate about.

This allows you to focus on providing your audience with high quality information specific  to that particular concept.  And a returning audience is a great asset when creating and sustaining a profitable blog.  Your audience will know to come to your blog for that specific topic.  You want to provide them with unique quality content, but you don’t want it to range to far from that main niche.  For example there are many mothers that have ‘mommy blogs’ where they talk about a variety of things related to being a mother.  You may find a blog about a movie or something on their website, however it will most likely relate back to that ‘mommy’ concept.

Profitable Blog-Step 1

So, step number 1 of your plan to create a profitable blog is to blog about something you are passionate about.  Many bloggers get started blogging, only for the money, however this desire and drive quickly wears off.  And if you find yourself blogging about something you hate, just for the money, then you may end up quitting in about a month.  One thing that you must realize and accept when even considering creating a blog that will eventually earn you some income is that the process takes time.  And many bloggers have to go through a year long learning curve, full of trial and error, just to see a few dollars start rolling in.  However you can cut that learning curve in half, by clicking here, and buying the Empower Network blog.

Profitable Blog-Step 2

Step number 2 in creating a profitable blog is ensuring that your niche, which is a reflection of something your passionate about, has room to grow.  You don’t want to base an entire website on something so specific that it’s difficult to expand on.  If you do

this, it can limit the number of visitors that continually visit your blog.  In contrast, you don’t want your niche to be so broad that it ends up being several niches entertwined, instead of just one.  This will leave you lost, confused, and you will find yourself blogging about any and everything like I was doing.  This isn’t necessarily a problem because your blog is essentially your content, however when creating a profitable blog you want it to be niche specific.

Profitable Blog-Step 3

Step number 3 in this planning process is don’t try to do too much too fast.  With any blog, whether it’s with Empower Network, WordPress.com,  or Blogger.com, they all take time to begin gaining traffic.  Personally I would recommend Empower Network, just because it is my first and only blog that I have ever done, and it has allowed me to get several pages ranked on Google in a very short period of time.

I posted this article 3/2/13 and it is already ranked #7 on the first page of Google.  I googled “Exactly how do bloggers make money” (without the quotations) and it popped right up.

Profitable Blog-Step 4

Step 4, you should have an idea of how you are going to monetize your blog.  In basic terms, you should establish a general aim defining how you will make money with your blog.  When it comes to creating a profitable blog there are various things that make it successful, however it is not a ‘profitable blog’ if you don’t earn any money.  Of course content and a great niche should come before this, that’s why this is step 4.  Some ways to monetize your blog include, advertisements and blog selling.

Profitable Blog-Step 5

Step 5 is to choose a great domain name. Empowernetwork.com is ranked #464 top visited site in the world according to Alexa.com, as of 3/4/13.  Blogging on a high authority site is a great way to ensure that you get traffic as fast as possible.  Your domain name is also a reflection of how you brand yourself.  Creating a profitable blog relies on how much traffic you get, and your traffic depends on how many people know about you.  Branding is a great way to get yourself out to the general internet public.  Once people can relate you to a certain product or service, they know exactly who to look for when searching for that particular thing.

Profitable Blog-Step 6

The final step would be to set up your profitable blog on WordPress.  WordPress let’s you add a variety of plugins, it is completely optimizable with Google, and has various other advantages you don’t get with other blogging hosts.  Empower Network actually utilizes WordPress because they realize that it is a phenomenal platform to host on.  You can get your Empower Network WordPress blog here.

In conclusion, this post just exemplifies that you have to be serious if you are considering creating a profitable blog.  These 6 steps are just the steps that go into planning and setting up the blog. There are a variety of other things that should be done, after these steps, in order to ensure that your blog is used to its full potential.  Subscribe to the feed so that you don’t miss other essential topics in regards to blogging.
