What is HGH?
HGH stands for “Human Growth Hormone”. It can also be referred to as Somatotropin. Somatotropin is secreted by Somatotropin cells that reside within the pituitary gland.
And the job of HGH or Somatotropin is exactly what the name suggests, it is a growth stimulating hormone.
It helps with things such as reconstructing and creating new tissue, muscle growth, cartilage growth, stimulating bones, and a matter of other things.
Natural HGH
What has me so interested in this topic is that I recently discovered a way to help my body receive more natural HGH, and I wanted to share it with you. Everyone produces HGH, from their pituitary gland, however the amount tends to slow down as you get older.
The amount of HGH released is much higher as a young child and during puberty. In turn when it comes to working out you want to be able to receive as much HGH as possible. You want you’re body to grow and to display the results of your hard work.
The great thing about working out is that any form of resistance training, such as lifting weights, body weight training, or even sprinting, causes your pituitary gland to release more HGH. And the recent fact I learned is in order to ensure that you’re body soaks up as much HGH from the workout as possible, you shouldn’t eat anything for at least an hour.
My source is a video by these two guys taking a sports nutrition course. Check it out.
Disproving the Myth
When lifting weights and stuff I was always told to drink a protein shake, or consume something to replenish the carbs I lost, no later than 45 minutes after the workout. However this concept about waiting an hour to eat anything conflicts with the prior statement. In turn which one do you do?
Eat right after, or wait an hour?
Well my answer would be it depends on what you want. Personally, I know right after my workout I feel tired, however I also feel like I don’t need to eat anything. And I believe that is because of the HGH being released. In turn, if you’re like me, then I would wait an hour and then eat a big meal to recover.
However some people feel as though they need to eat right after a workout to get protein back into their system. If you feel that way then you may want to continue with your routine of drinking a shake right afterwards.
Personally I just like to listen to my body. If I feel like I need to eat, I’ll do so, but typically I don’t. I recommend you do the same, if you feel like you need to eat then eat something, if you don’t, then let your natural HGH go to work.
