I came across a video in viralviralvideos.com about whirl pools.
This particular video was of a whirl pool in Dviete, Latvia that simply sucked down everything that got to close.

And personally this was my first time really seeing or taking any interest in whirl pools because whirl pools just aren’t something you think about on a daily basis.

However with this video getting 450,000 views in two days, and making its way to the top of viralviralvideos.com, I couldn’t help but to pay attention.  And as I watched this video of this amazing natural occurrence I got to thinking…

Is this supposed to happen?  Where is all the stuff going?
How do whirl pools for in lakes?  And of course many of these questions were bought about because I had never done any previous research whirl pools.

And the fact that I had not done any research also contributed to my imaginative thoughts that lead to these questions.
Surely all of us have seen a movie or television show in which someone gets sucked into a whirl pool and ends up in a different dimension.

And when I saw this video of this particular whirl pool sucking down everything that neared it, I couldn’t help but think of some science fiction movie or something.  Take a look for yourself.

However all of my questions of course can be answered with a bit of research.  I wanted to learn more about whirl pools so that’s exactly what I looked up.  And I believe what I found was pretty interesting.

A whirl pool is actually the product of two opposing current coming together.  This is very similar to how a tornado is created, with a warm front and a cold front colliding, and the tornado being a byproduct.

Essentially a whirl pool is the same thing, just under water.  And this particular whirl pool has a down draft so it’s correct name would be a Vortex.  And larger whirl pools can be considered Maelstroms.

Typically whirl pools can be created in an ocean due to its tides, and some well known locations that produce whirl pools are Naruto Whirlpools in Japan, and Saltstraumen in Norway.  Here’s a nice video of Saltstraumen.

However the video of the whirl pool in Latvia was of a lake, and not an ocean.
So that also left me a bit curious.  How can a whirl pool form in a lake?  And my thought lead me to believe that there probably a river nearby.  The motion of this river can transcend throughout the entire lake and create a whirl pool.

Also wind direction and speed can create miniature waves within this lake and contribute to the creation of whirl pool.  Regardless of what caused it, it’s still a bit weird to see such large objects being sucked under like that, and having no idea where they’re going.

I’m a pretty imaginative guy, so when something is unknown, to me it means a world of possibilities.  🙂

But whatever, I just thought the video was really cool, and wanted to share.  And apparently a lot of other people were interested as well, considering that the video got so many views.

Now I’m not sure if you know anything about traffic, or marketing, or internet marketing, but 450,000 pair of eyes fixed on one thing is something that every marketer wants to have.
