A Message to my Wife – Everything’s Gonna Be Alright
I know that for a lot of you, this is going to a really cheesy and cringe-worthy post.
But, I am going to post it anyway.
And the crux of the message in this is the key to success….your why!
Let me give you a bit of background on my story:
I got online about a year ago give or take.
I had had enough of teaching, despite just completing my Masters degree.
Not only was (and still is) the industry here in Japan (where I am based at the moment) extremely stagnant, but educational based companies were closing all the time.
One of my ex-companies had gone bankrupt after it was revealed that they had been cheating employees and students out of money.
Salaries had not increased at all in the past 12 years.
In fact, more companies were creating shocking pitiful contracts to attract new employees who were willing to work more hours for less pay and thus pushing existing workers out the door.
Add to that the fact that even the best teacher has an income ceiling (I mean you can only be in front of students for so many hours a day).
I had recently become qualified to teach at universities. I had been doing this for a while, but now I was supposed to be legit.
And what did I find? Financially, I would be worse off.
What a joke!
STRESS and FRUSTRATION!
I was so frustrated and if I am honest, I saw no future. I was never going to earn more, and we were barely getting by as it was.
When I came home my daughter was already usually in bed and the only contact we had, was over breakfast.
My wife offered to find a job, and she has done what she can by taking on part-time stuff every now and then for wages so low, it is downright offensive.
But she offered for our family….which meant so much.
I had to do something…….
So, I took the plunge and began my journey as an online entrepreneur.
My wife, was at first, extremely skeptical.
Like a lot of people, she thought it would be impossible to make any money and I would end of pissing a lot of folk off.
I guess her fears were understandable.
You hear these stories all the time….but once I got online I found out the truth.
A lot of the negativity comes from those who have failed…..or who quit.
Sure, there are some unscrupulous individuals with no integrity that give the industry a bad name but look hard enough, and I am sure you could find the same thing in any business.
Despite me not being an immediate success,she did after a while give me her full support.
By support, I mean she did not give me any negativity.
She did not and still does not really know what exactly it is I do but I am thankful that she understands that I am doing this for her and our daughter, Emily (and new one on the way).
Despite not giving me any grief, I knew she was worried. And rightly so.
I was spending a lot of time and money on trying to make this work. But I was determined never to give up.
I felt like it, on more than one occasion.
But I had my ‘why’ and I had it written out and stuck above my computer.
Everytime I felt like quitting, I thought of how my life would be if I continued to teach.
And it was not good.
So I refused to quit.
Breakthrough
Several months ago, I had a breakthrough.
I already had a successful mentor, but I had previously thought my way was better.
What a fool!
I realised that to be a success, you need to find someone who has had a little of it and do what they do, with your own unique twist.
Now I am getting lots of leads, making some money and things are looking up.
And throughout I have kept the most important thing……my integrity.
So I will end this post with the below video.
