Neuroplasticity, Success, and Trying Something New

This will be another quick blog post.

Sometimes when you’re running a company, being a rep, being a husband, and traveling at the same time, you’ve got to take action quickly.

What Neuroplasticity Really Means

Neuroplasticity (see Wikipedia article) replaces old research that was taught in school when I was a child, that said that once you reach a certain age, your brain becomes fixed, can’t generate new cells, and your intelligence and behavior is hard wired.

When I was in school, that’s one of those things that didn’t sound right, along with the hypnotic suggestion to go to college 🙂

Now, we know that your brain can entirely change shape at any age of your life. You can grow new cells, form new connections, change the way attention and focus is hard wired in the brain, even increase your fluid intelligence, which is your ability to utilize and manipulate new information.

(See studies on increasing fluid intelligence here)

To me, that all sounds like common sense 🙂

Training My Brain To Visualize

Like how if you’ve been broke for the last 5 years, it doesn’t mean that you have to be for the next five. If you grew up struggling with your thinking, you can learn to become brilliant by forcing your mind to think in new and different ways.

One time, a few years back, I spent 2 hours a day visualizing images and symbols in 3D, manipulating them, spinning them in my mind.

When I started doing it, I didn’t have a brilliant ability to visualize. At the end of about 45 days or so, I could see images in my imagination so clearly, I could almost reach out and touch them. They were more vivid than the stuff I saw around me in the room.

Learning To Walk All Over Again

One time in your life, you couldn’t walk.

You could barely move.

In fact, you would just wriggle your arms and legs like crazy, moving them in any direction you could go, making any sound you could, and somehow, you still managed to smile 🙂

Maybe you can do that now.

(although, I don’t want to hear whining, you’re not a baby anymore)

A few years later, you were sprinting, not even able to remember that it used to take all the energy in your mind… just to curl your toes.

Making crap loads of money (crap loads) is a lot like learning to walk. In the beginning, you strain your entire being to kick your legs wildly.

This is the kind of thing I teach in The Daily Shortcut: one short episode a day, free. Send Me Episode One →

3 years later, you’re riding a bicycle, and it’s hard to remember what it used to be like, to not get lots of money instantly in your bank account, whenever you choose.

Message Of The Day: Try Something New

Message of the day:

Try something new. Decide to think and take action in new ways.

Learn to track it, and see if it works.

The great thing is, although all adults can be brilliant if they choose to do new things all the time, most of them don’t.

So for you, reading this now, that means there’s a huge advantage today for you.

Because YOU can be one of the brilliant ones.

YOU can decide to think and take action in new ways, kicking your arms and legs again, of your mind, just like when you were a child.

And when you go to the bank, those around you may still be crying for milk in bed, because you were the one with the tenacity to kick and scream relentlessly until you were getting 2 customers a day.

Do something new today, why?

Because you my friend, are a badass.
