Merry Christmas everyone! The most wonderful time of the year is here! A lot of people are still caught in the holiday rush. Buying gifts for our love ones. Busy preparing the turkeys and the hams making sure it doesn’t burn! Doing last minute Christmas decorations. Before you continue with what you are doing, let’s slow down and take time to think about the real meaning of Christmas!
I was surfing the internet just now and I saw certain articles, “The best gifts this Christmas“, “Top 10 gadgets for the holidays“, and “Where is Santa now?“. The latter is about a certain group of people and they just want to know and track which part of the world Santa is in right now. I also saw new apps and tools that children can use to track down Santa. The television is filled with Christmas movies and cartoons, mostly focused on Santa Claus, Frosty the snowman, Christmas tree, etc..
I decided to write this quick entry because I am a bit sad on how Christmas is celebrated by the majority of the world. I’m sure you have heard or read about the Nativity Story. If not, you can do a quick Google search about it. It is the story of the birth of Jesus the Christ which I strongly believe is the very foundation and meaning of Christmas. I think it is one of the loneliest and most challenging night an expecting couple could ever have. Going from house to house looking for a place to rest for the night and all they can get is a dirty, muddy, wet and stinky stable. People were so busy with their own thing and unknowingly missing out on something very glorious. These people were praying and waiting for the coming of the Messiah for generations already. They are aware this day will come but they chose to focus on something else. Jesus was born in a stable and only a few realized it! Only those who took the time to look at the signs (wise men) and those who chose to listen (shepherds) experienced the glorious event!
So if Christmas is about the birth of Jesus, what makes it so special? It is special for me because it is the demonstration of God’s eternal plan. “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16).
The fulfillment of everything that was promised and prophesied started on this day!
What is your reason for celebrating this day? What are you focused on? As for me and my family, we will celebrate this day with thanksgiving for all the things God has done for us to have life – keeping the REAL meaning of Christmas!
