THE POWER OF RESURRECTION – FULFILLMENT OF A PROMISE

Elijah was a great prophet of God during the times of the kings of Israel. He performed many miracles of healing and brought many victories in battle through his faith.  As Elijah grew older, Elisha joined him as his servant, following him wherever he went.  Elisha’s greatest ambition was to be a prophet like Elijah and to bring deliverance to his people through his faith in the power of God.  God, through Elijah, deposited on Elisha the double portion of His anointing.

After Elisha received a tremendous anointing from the Lord God, the Spirit of God was evident in everything that he did and said.  Exactly as Elijah had promised him, Elisha performed twice as many miracles of healing and victories than Elijah had done.

Elisha died and was buried in a grave.  The only area in which he had not performed twice in the number of miracles than Elijah was in the raising of people from the dead. Elijah had raised from the dead the son of his landlady (1 Kings 17:21-24) and Elisha had done the same (2 Kings 4:8-37).

Then Elisha died and they buried him, And the raiding bands from Moab invaded the land in the spring of the year.  So it was, as they were burying a man, that suddenly they spied a band of raiders; and they out the man in the tomb of Elisha; and when the man was let down and touched the bones of Elisha, he revived and stood on his feet. ~ 2 Kings 13:20-21

Through this miracle of the raising from the dead, when the dead body touched Elisha’s bones long after Elisha had died, we see the fulfilment of the promise of God.  God has promised Elisha, through Elijah’s words, that he would have double portion of Elijah’s spirit which meant that he would have twice as many miracles as Elijah.  The promises of God are true. Elisha believed what God had said and God honoured his faith even though the final fulfilment did not occur until after the death of him who believed in God’s promises.  They could bury the man, but not the promise.

Key Concept: What the Power of Resurrection can do?

1.  For my God, neither death nor the grave is the final frontier.  He can go beyond them to fulfill His promises.  If God has spoken a promise over your life, He has the power to fulfil it even when death comes in between.
2.  No tomb is an enemy of God’s move.  Even when the enemy says “It’s over” and the world acknowledges it, remember that the power of resurrection can bring back the promise of God.  It is not over until God says it’s over.
3.  If there is a promise from God, that promise will penetrate the tomb and even the corpse to bring forth the result.  Amen!
4.  We need to possess the faith like Abraham, who knew that his only son would die, but that God would surely raise him up from the ashes.  God is more that able to bring back the promise from the most impossible situations.
5.  When you come out, you are not coming out alone.  People, who were dead and then came in contact with you, are going to be resurrected by the power of the Almighty God.
6.  Throughout the Bible, the resurrections that happened occurred either by a point of contact or by a voice heard in the immediate vicinity.  Anytime we are dealing with situations that are dead, we need to talk to them as if they were hearing us.  God rises up an army, who with authority, will speak into situations that look irresponsive.  God’s faithfulness will permeate into those situations.
