Last night I didn’t sleep at all…well I say that but my partner still says I was snoring between 10:30 and 11:30pm but thereafter I was bright eyed and bushy tailed.

I think there may be a couple of reasons, so many exciting things are happening in my business this year I can’t tell you how awesome it is! And also…

I’ve given up sugar, gluten and dairy…it’s been 6 days now – I feel amazeballs but this was the first night of close to zero sleep…

….I really hope all these clean eating folks don’t survive on 1 hour of sleep a night…

…right now I have a long black here at my desk and want to marry that little sucker..I mean I’m most likely hallucinating but it’s god damned sexy to me at the moment!

So yes folks I’m sleep deprived so please don’t take it personally if I yawn while I’m getting this blog post out to you all today.

I love my sleep, I really love my sleep and usually I’m a great sleeper.

I have my evening rituals of setting up my rain forest music (soooo 1992 Trina G) and I read for 30 minutes…or until my eyes cross into the opposite socket

……and I drift off for at least 7 to 8 hours per night…ahhh bliss….

But last night…what the!!!

It’s not like I was stressed, in actual fact the very opposite.

I had my hair done during the day and my main man Ross Randall.

I worked remotely while getting my scalp massaged.

I worked on some marketing for our offline businesses.

I was chilled, relaxed and I ate like Ashley Conrad before a photo shoot – although my abs aren’t as ripped, they are under there…very deep in there but they are in there….somewhere 😉

I had drank at least 3 litres of water…

And when I rested my head on the pillow, while the frogs were riidupping and the rain was

down my window, I completed a few more pages of my book Newsjacking and I drifted off into a sleep….a freaking ONE HOUR SLEEP!!!

At 11:30pm my eyes opened up like it I was a four year old on Christmas morning….my eyeballs couldn’t be more open!

Blasko (our dog) was loving her dream..I could hear her faint little I’m asleep lazy barks…

So I decided to get up.

I went to the lounge room…and started to read journals and research on sleep and the effects of having little sleep…

So I…is sleep deprived that’s for sure.

Check out what I uncovered about sleep throughout the wee hours…..

There was actually a new published journal last year called the “Great Sleep Depression”

They surveyed teens between the ages of 15 and 18. The survey was taken by almost 300,000 teens and the time span was between 1991 and 2012.

It was noted that teens sleep and average of seven hours and it was specified that they should be sleeping 9 hours a day…so what was going on?

There are speculations that due to the rise of social media and overall increased Internet usage are factors and also the pressure younger kids face with education and the volume of work.

But not everyone crams all of their sleep in at night however.

Babies and toddlers, for example, take naps to get it all in.

Little babies take naps throughout the day to get their quota….that sounds like a good idea right at this moment.

It’s made me very curious as to how much sleep is recommended for us throughout our lives?

Before I run you though the details of it I want to stress the importance of sleep. It goes without saying that a lack of sleep is bad (believe me today I know) it causes all types of harm to our minds and our bodies no matter what age. Everything I read this morning between the wee hours of 11:30 and 6 am told me so. In actual fact sleep deprivation can make us put on weight because we are prone to eating more, eat more, it shrinks the size of our brains (shrinks our brains,) and it can be directly linked to Type 2 Diabetes, your driving gets impaired and you can even create false realities in your mind….oh look over there I can see a pink hippo flying in the sky…..

So now let’s have a look at the recommended quotas – and see how you compare:

  • Newborns (0 to 3 months) — 14 to 17 hours per day
  • Infants (4 to 11 months) — 12 to 15 hours per day
  • Toddlers (1 to 2 years old) — 11 to 14 hours per day
  • Pre-schoolers (3 to 5 years old) — 11 to 14 hours per day
  • School age (6 to 13 years old) — 9 to 11 hours per day
  • Teens (14 to 17 years old) — 8 to 10 hours per day
  • Younger adults (18 to 25 years old) — 7 to 9 hours per day
  • Adults (26 to 64 years old) — 7 to 9 hours per day
  • Older adults (65 and older) — 7 to 8 hours per day

All in all I rate pretty well if you omit last night….I can safely day the ol’ noggin won’t be shrinking any time soon!

What I do know is that sleep is so important to keep us in peak condition and without it…well our health is in jeopardy.

I hope this blog post didn’t keep you up to late tonight, it’s a lot to think about I know but soon enough you’ll be having sweet dreams.

Nighty Nighty, Love Ya!

  1. Amazeballs! Love it Trina! Ha! Very good post and thank you for sharing it.
I would like to add that those rain forest tapes were even around for us older generation in the 70s and 80s. And same great zoning out thru meditation and relaxation.
    Thanks again.
    Dan

  3. Thanks Trina….I have never been too much of a solid sleeper, maybe that is why I am chubby and I know that type 2diabetes aids in sleep disorders….I have it. I also decide to go gluten free and going to work up to sugar free….ugh…Keep me posted on how you are doing please.
Thanks for the insightful post .
