Do you ever walk down the street, go to eat at a restaraunt, go to the movies, and all you see are people talking or texting on their cell phone? It’s basically the normal thing to do these days. Everywhere we go, or whatever we do, we always have to have our cell phone with us. To some, it’s like a person to them. They cry if they break it, they get upset if it quits working. We treat our phones like a human, alot. Lol. Just last year, Christopher had an iphone 3g that he had been so careful with. He ran over it with the lawn mower 2 times, and it survived. But there was a day when he accidentally dropped it on the floor, and the screen cracked on it. That was a sad day for Christopher. Because he had taken such good care of his phone up to that point. See what I mean…he took such good care of it. Haha, just like it has a life or something. Anyways, I want to take a look at how far we have come in this world. Without cell phones, and now with them. Take a look at what I found.
When was the cell phone invented?
Back in 1973, the company we know as MOTOROLA made the first hand held mobile phone. A man by the name of Martin Cooper, who was a Motorola engineer made the first call on this device. The phone weighed 2.5 pounds, and measured 9 inches long. It was 5 inches deeps, and 1.75 inches wide. The prototype offered a “talk time” of 30 minutes, and took 10 hours to re-charge. Wow…how crazy! I can’t imagine carrying that huge thing in my pocket. 2.5 pounds….that’s a big cell phone! To me, when I picture this phone, I think of the “Zach Morris” phone…for those Saved By the Bell lovers!
As you know, the world is ever so quickly changing. And we moved up in the world when the ever so popular phone that almost every American had came out. The Nokia cell phone. This phone for most people was popular because it had the game “snake” on it. Well, that’s one reason I liked that cell phone so much. And I’m sure everyone who owned one, played the game all the time. It was a heavy little phone. Very awkward to keep in your pocket. But it got the job done. It made phone calls.
Then its on to bigger (sarcasm) and better things. When I say bigger, I don’t mean bigger in size. Because as time has went on, the cell phone has went from big and bulgy, to small and slim. There are numerous types of cell phones out on the market today. You have android phones, apple phones, phones for texting, phones for almost anything you can think of.
Fast Changing World of the Cell Phone
People use a cell phone for more than talking these days. They use them to text. Which has become the most popular way of communicating known to man. Instead of calling someone, we all just text the people we want to talk to. Most cell phones have the same capability as a computer or lap top. Every cell phone that is out there has the option of a data plan, which allows you to get on the internet, download things, etc.. (some phones don’t even work without a data plan). I have a HTC Inspire, and it requires a data plan. Since it is a smart phone, it needs the data plan in order to work right and for me to get all the features the phone offers. Christopher has an Iphone 4 which also requires a data plan. There are hundreds of phones available to choose from, compared to the 1 phone back in 1973. We have came a long way!
Newest Cell Phone I have my eye on…”The Apple of my Eye”
Recently I watched a video of a new concept Apple Iphone 6 that is soon to hit the market. If all of the features it show are true, I believe I may convert from an android to an apple. Here is a video of the new phone. It looks awesome.
With this phone, you can see how far technology has come. A phone that has an projection screen…how cool is that! And the crazy thing is, it’s only going to get cooler and bigger and better with the years to come. I can’t wait to see what is next. So, ask yourself this question…. “can you live without your cell phone?” I know the answer to that question already…that is a big NO! Lol! Enjoy technology! We are moving forward!
