With the Powerball Jackpot so high it seems so many people are asking, “What would you do if you won the lottery?” I mean 550 Million Dollars is a whole heck of a lot of money. And there is so many things someone can do with that kind of money.
Houses to buy, cars to buy, trips to take, and so much more. That just the tip of the iceberg when you really stop to think about it.
On Facebook I asked, “If money was no object, and you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?” Because well think about it, if you won the lottery money shouldn’t be an object. So where would you go?

But the thing about the lottery is that chances are you’re not going to win. Sorry to be there bearer of bad news here, and go against the popular lottery motto, “Someone’s going to win, might as well be you!” But really do you know how many people are actually playing the lottery? The odds of winning the jackpot in Powerball are about 1 in 175.2 million according to the Quad City Times of Davenport, IA.
And I think it’s amazing how a lot of people already have elaborate plans of what they would do with the money IF they won. But sadly there are a lot of bad stories that accompany lottery winners. In an article on Forbes.com, Susan Adams reports that a study done in Florida shows that 1% of lottery winners go bankrupt every year. And she also points to the tales of robberies, divorces, and a lot of people wanting “their” share of the winnings. It can be a hassle and tells, “Why Winning Powerball Won’t Make You Happy”
I think it comes down to the old saying, “Give a man a fish and he can eat for a day, teach a man to fish and he can eat for a lifetime.” I believe the same is true when it comes to money. Give a man a fish…win the lottery, and he can eat for a day. I think that it really comes down to the individual’s handle of their finances. If they aren’t very good with money, they probably aren’t going to handle a lot of money very well either.
However, if or when someone learns how to handle their money, teach them to fish, then I believe they will have a better handle on lottery winnings. But why leave things to chance?
Why put your financial future in the hands of someone who just pushes a button and reads numbers on tiny balls? Why not take control of your future and do what is necessary to “learn to fish” and create your own wealth?
