We have a real problem on our hands.
It’s the People Who Think Other People Aren’t Real Epidemic.
For Example. We have the stupid girl who decide to make that awful, awful, tweet to Raven’s player Torrey Smith after their win over the Patriots on Sunday….
….and I quote:
“Hey, Smith, how about you call your bro and tell him about your wi—ohhh. Wait. #TooSoon?”
In case you aren’t aware, Torrey Smith’s younger brother had been killed earlier in a motorcycle accident.
What was she thinking? Clearly there was a goal of getting herself into the #TooSoon hash tag brigade. To do something so hurtful, and mean just to get a little recognition….it’s disgusting.
Well, she got the recognition. Probably a lot more than she bargained for. The backlash on her has apparently been intense enough that within hours of sending the tweet, she tweeted apologies and changed her account to private.
The other insane case of People Who Think People Aren’t Real, that has been bothering me is this situation where a California man apparently made a movie making fun of the Prophet Muhammad.
This is a clear case of “Just Because You Can….Doesn’t Mean You Should”. I don’t care how free our speech can be!!! The man who created this movie has far exceeded the boundaries of common human decency. He had no call, other than his own hatred to create that film.
Likewise, those who are so upset about this film that they have burned theaters and caused 21 people so far to DIE because they are angry and rioting are trampling people’s lives and common human decency. To make it far far far worse, there is now a public hit (yes, as in the filmmaker has a big target with a $ sign attached to it on his back), thrown down by a Pakistani Minister.
To REALLY throw fuel on the fire, a very well known publication not only published the filmmaker’s entire name in the paper, but also the suburb where the man lives!!!
WTF!?!
So either it’s a red herring to throw would be every broke ass person who’s willing to off someone for a chunk of cash off of the man’s trail, or in another act of Not Thinking Someone Is A REAL Person, they’ve further added to the long list of people trampling the hell out of common human decency.
Sigh. When will people realize that we don’t live in the movies?
To the woman, girl, whatever, who sent that tweet about Torrey Smith. That poor man just lost his brother. He is hurting. His family is hurting. Can you imagine how sad and confusing and awful that must be? Put yourself in his shoes. What if that was your little brother? What if someone said that to you or someone in your family? You cannot fathom it can you? Yet that hurt you imagine right now…is a million times worse for those actually struggling through the loss of someone they love.
To the man who made the movie making fun of Muhammad. I do not believe that you deserve to die. You must be very afraid.
But I hope that other’s take away a serious message from this. It has nothing to do with standing up for what you believe in. It’s no better than the Ku Klux Klan. What you did, what they do is hurtful and stupid and frankly has nothing at all to do with freedom of speech and everything to do with fear, and prejudice and hatred against your fellow man.
Now you are likely in hiding and your family is in danger. Was it worth it? Was what you did truly necessary?
To anybody who has ever rioted and caused others to be hurt or die either on purpose or indirectly. To what end will your actions do any good? 21 people and maybe more will be dead because of this insensitive and stupid film. 21 families so far are hurt because they’ve lost people they love over this.
We need to think before we act. We need to realize that every single other person in this world is a REAL PERSON. With real Spouses. Real Children. Real Parents. Real problems. Real Thoughts….and our actions….they are also Real.
With Real consequences.
