If you are a Tony Robbins graduate of TR Mastery University as I am you may know there are only 6 reasons that people DO THINGS.
People’s Behaviours are based on their NEED (NOT GOALS)…

Tony Robbins has identified these basic 6 human needs and believes everyone is motivated by their desire to fulfill these needs (in everything they do)
Knowing How you Meet Your Needs is Important for You to be able to “change” and make lasting and empowering improvements in your life.. including..
Improving Relationships
Improving Financial Status
etc..etc..
ALSO.. knowing what motivates your clients to fulfill their needs may very well help you greatly in business.

Everyone meets these 6 human needs in 1 of 3 ways:
1. Destructive or Dis-empowering Ways
2. Neutral Ways
3. Constructive or Empowering Ways
If then, you can identify how you meet YOUR own 6 human needs you can take some very simple steps to change the dis-empowering or destructive ways to empowering or constructive ways .. .and then..
… Your Life WILL IMMEDIATELY be transformed forever.
Also, If you know what motivates your clients you can serve them better
This was main aim of the Tony Robbins, Date With Destiny (DWD) Event that I attended in the Gold Coast of Australia back in ..and I saw MANY Transformations as we went through the exercises.
The Basic 6 Human Needs are explained Briefly Here. As you read through them try to identify the main ways in which you satisfy the needs and then mark them off as either empowering, dis-empowering or neutral.
Also to be able to continue meeting your needs they must be obtainable and sustainable, because if YOUR WAY it is TOO difficult and cannot be sustained you are going to be unfulfilled and unhappy.
So, for a happy and fulfilled Life the ways that You meet your needs must be OBTAINABLE AND SUSTAINABLE ie what lasts. Doing what is easy is normally temporary– examples below:
6 Human Needs: Driving Force Needs (not desires) (like Food is a Need – a life sustaining need)
A. Personality Needs
1. Certainty:
Certainty / comfort of avoiding pain (survival) instinct. The need to feel ‘Safe and Secure’ or ‘Comfortable’
Some Potential vehicles: Control / Consistency / Negative Identity / Faith / Completion
Some Disempowering / destructive Ways that people meet this need:
– Shopping –
– Crashing into the sofa and watching TV or DVDS continuously –
– Smoking –
– Over Eating –
Some EMPOWERING ways :
– Jogging or going to gym –
– Engaging in favourite Hobby –
– Learning –
2. Variety / Uncertainty
At the same time we want certainty, we also crave variety. Paradoxically, there needs to be enough UNcertainty to provide spice and adventure in our lives. We need uncertainty / variety/ challenges without which we cannot grow.
Some Potential Vehicles: Control / Negative Identity / Alcohol / Drugs / Food / New Job / Stimulating Conversation
Destructive / Disempowering Ways:
– Changing sex partners
– Taking Drugs / smoking marijuana
Constructive / Empowering ways:
– Competitive sport –
– Challenging hobbies such as mountaineering –
3. Significance. (Uniqueness / Special / Important) Deep down, we all want to be important. We want our life to have meaning and significance. I can imagine no worse a death than to think my life didn’t matter.
Some Potential Vehicles: Violence / Negative Identity / Material Possessions / Style /
Destructive / Disempowering Ways:
– Anger –
– smoking –
Neutral way – maybe growing a beard –
Constructive / Empowering Ways:
– Taking a Leadership Role –
– Engaging in Charity work –
4. Connection/Love. Bonding – Onenedd – Saring – Intimacy. It would be hard to argue against the need for love. We want to feel part of a community. We want to be cared for and cared about.
Some Potential Vehicles: Sympathy through Injury or Sickness / Commit a Negative Act (Gets attention –connection) / Spirituality / Relationships – family friends –intimate /
Destructive/ Disempowering Ways:
– being argumentative (getting attention – forced connection) –
– trying to please everyone – to ‘FIT IN’ –
Constructive / Empowering Ways:
– Giving unconditional love –
– Speaking in front of a crowd –
B. Spiritual Needs:
5. Growth. There could be some people who say they don’t want to grow, but I think they’re simply fearful of doing so—or perhaps NOT doing so. To become better, to improve our skills, to stretch and excel may be more evident in some than others, but it’s there.
6. Contribution. The desire to contribute something of value—to help others, to make the world a better place than we found it is in all of us.
