Homemade Gifts
This Christmas I have a lot of people on my gift list. So I have decided to save money and be unique. I know I love spa days and smell good bath stuff, so why not create my own as gifts? My focus will be on bath salts, body scrubs, and bath oils. I can put them in decorative jars, old wine bottles, mason jars, or any other pretty air-tight jar. Then I plan to use sticker paper to make the labels.
Bath Salts Gifts
There are a ton of bath salt recipes online if you look. I have decided to use recipes from Home Made Simple as my gifts. It calls for 1 cup Epsom salt, 1/2 cup Kosher or Sea salt, your choice of 5-10 drops of essential oils and food coloring, a resealable freezer bag & wax paper. You put the salt in the bag and add food coloring 1 drop at a time then mix it in until you get your desired effect. Repeat the process with the essential oils then pour your mixture out onto the wax paper and let dry for 1-2 hours. You can layer different colors and scents for a fancier gift.
Body Scrub Gifts
I love body scrubs, especially in winter because they moisturize and remove dead skin. I found this recipe for this gift on CareFair.com, but you can search and find a ton of different recipes if this one doesn’t interest you. This is a Green Tea Scrub, it takes 1 cup Sea salt, 1 cup sugar, 1/2 cup baking soda, 3 tablespoons powdered green tea. Mix in 1 capsule of vitamin E and 1/2 cup almond oil. Once all ingredients are mixed store scrub in an air tight container.
My last spa gift is homemade bath oils. The easiest recipe I found was on dummies.com and it includes a list of oils and their uses. You pick out your choice of 5-10 drops of scented essential oil, like chamomile, lavender, or peppermint. Add that to 7 ounces of a carrier oil such as sweet almond, coconut, or apricot kernel. Gently shake to mix and its ready to use. I hope these gifts leave you a great smelling holiday season.
