Why you should stop worrying

Are you a worrier
Everybody worries some of the time. You worry about how you did on a test or at an interview. When you get sick, you may worry about how serious it is or how to afford the doctor visit. Sometimes you even worry about irrational things like saying something stupid to a person you’ve just met or making a fool of yourself because you tripped in front of strangers. The bad thing about worry is it has the power to make a situation worse because you keep replaying it in your head. Unless you did summersaults down an escalator, I’m pretty sure no one but you is still focused on the fact that you stumbled while walking. Honestly, people are kinda self-involved. Worry is not productive!
4 Tips to stop Worry
- Get it out- If you try to just stop it, it will manifest. So, get it out then move on. Tell someone or write it down, then LET IT GO. Stop rehashing it.
- Take Action- If you can do something that can affect the outcome, do it. Study for the test, practice for the interview. If you can’t affect the outcome, take action somewhere else. The great thing about this is, you get something done and you distract yourself. A two-fer.
- Check your perspective- If it already happened, look at it from an outsider’s perspective. Is it really as bad as you think? If it hasn’t happened yet; what’s the worst that can happen? Ask yourself in 2 months how important will this be. Perspective is so important to relieving worry.
- What are you worried about– Look at your worry and figure out if you’re actually worried about this thing or if the worry is coming from past events. Maybe your last interview went badly, is that affecting your feelings about this interview?
How worry can set you up for failure
I have found one of the best ways to fail is to worry about failing! Interesting isn’t it?
