Never Stop Learning

In this video I share my philosophy about fitness and how it applies to improving the quality of movement in the human body. Being able to move well is altogether very different from being able to move at all.
Everyone who is in generally good health can move. By move I mean we all bend, twist, lower our bodies, raise our bodies, push pull, and we locate. And we do all of this maintaining balance and may have some degree of resistance, like carrying a box of old books up to the attic.
What is significant about the human body is that we know all about “motor learning“. If you are a parent you have watched your own children’s motor skills improve as they grow up. The take home point is that no one on this green earth is born with these skills. Motor learning happens through repetition. Look at elite athletes for example. They practice simple things over and over and over again until they are instinctive.
The learning is in the repetition. It’s autonomic.
I also believe that in spite of our physical abilities, everyone of us finds a way to function in this world. We manage to walk from point A to point B if that’s what we need to do on a regular basis. Some people need a wheel chair, and some have artificial limbs, but nearly everyone finds a way to function with what they have. It’s all about learning and practicing.
What we do on a regular basis becomes the foundation of our movement “program” in that our bodies become very good at learning all of the activities that we do on a regular basis. The more you play, the better you get at playing. So “motor learning” makes perfect sense, right?
But that doesn’t mean that we don’t have dysfunction, asymmetry, or even some degree of pain in our movements. It just means that we are the sum toll of what we do with frequency. What is amazing is how the human body will adapt to what ever we ask it to do with repetition.
But What About Learning Other Skills?
When it comes to everything else like learning a trade, learning how to read music, learning how to speak a foreign language, or learning how to become a better online marketer, the autonomic nervous system is not being addressed the same way to the same degree. Gaining knowledge requires an intentional pursuit of knowledge.
When we are babies and once we learn to walk our parents don’t enroll us in walking school or running school. We figure that out on our own and the more we move as kids the better our chances of becoming athletes as we grow older. And even if we don’t become athletes, kids that played sports and were more physical develop better movement patterns through life as they become older adults.
We must never stop learning!
Whether we are moving our bodies or challenging our minds, we must always be striving towards being physical and engaging our brains with new information that challenges us. That is why it is important to maintain an open mind and be willing to try new things.
A recent study has showed that gym class contributes to an increased ability to learn. And yet when you look around they are devaluing gym class left and right. I am quite certain that wherever this is happening it is being driven by forces that don’t value the relationship between the cognitive and the physical and that budgets and spending are taking precedent. It’s just a shame.
As we grow older it is really important to realize that you can slow down the aging clock. There are SO many things you can do. I’m going to save that for another blog post or two, but for now let’s focus on this simple message.
Every day you should get some physical exercise, eat healthy and nutritious meals, and read a book to learn something new everyday. My own philosophy is closely tied in with the Empower Networks 8 core values. That’s one of the reasons that attracted me to move my blog to this platform. I wanted to reach a bigger audience and I wanted to be around like-minded people.
The Empower Network has also availed to me the tools, knowledge, and skills I need to become a better marketer. I love the information and I love learning about this fascinating topic. I also really enjoy connecting with people and helping them find their way to a healthier body, a healthier brain, and showing them how to earn a serious living online. It’s a beautiful thing.
At the end of the day I don’t know anyone who doesn’t want to get the greatest return for their investment of time or money. And I have never met anyone that did not want to live a long and fruitful life. But there are a lot of people who are wealthy and miserable and even more people who are healthy and don’t have enough money.
I have the solution for that conundrum. But you are going to have to come back tomorrow to read all about it!
Committed to your success,
