Paul Smithberger

Writing every day does not work, he says, and the reason is not the writing. Most people publish and then stop, having done the hard part and skipped the easy one, so nobody ever encounters what they made. The obstacle is obscurity rather than quality, and he is blunt that good writing on its own will not fix it.

A ship's captain could seal sections of a hull at the push of a button, and a physician borrowed that as a way to live: drop a steel door on yesterday and another on tomorrow, then stay inside the day you are actually in. He found the same idea in two separate books and writes about both.

He also ran a video challenge across ninety days, admits an earlier attempt stalled near forty because life interfered, and started again anyway.

Martial arts appear more than once, including a fighter losing by taunting.
