Kicking “Excusitis” In the Teeth

Excusitis… that troublesome condition that tries to keep you from getting your work done.
Sometimes you just have to kick it in the teeth and do the thing that you are trying to rationalize your way out of doing.
Even though you know you should do it you can hear the train of excuses running through your mind “I’m too tired. I want to go to bed. I’ll watch some t.v. and do it later. Hmmm… I’m hungry.” Or the classic “I’ll just do it tomorrow.”
But, if you duck out on your commitments to yourself once, you’ll do it over and over again.
Honestly, that’s how I was feeling before I started writing this post. I was tired from working out at the Dojo. I know I have to get up early to take my daughter to soccer practice so I just want to go to bed and get some sleep. That and I just wasn’t finding a topic that I wanted to write about.
I could have put this off until tomorrow. Same with the advertising that I will be sending out right after I finish this blog post.
However, I also know that being consistent is the only way to gain momentum or skill in any area of life, including blogging and marketing, so I am deciding to go forward and do the work despite being tired and wanting to skip for the day.
The instructions from the 15k formula was to write a blog post every day. It didn’t say every day that I feel like it. No. It says every day. So, if I don’t write every day, I can’t blame David Wood if I don’t get results because I am not following through on what he is teaching. If I don’t do this, the only person I can blame for not getting results would be me.
It would seem innocent enough to rationalize skipping “just this once” and thinking there would be no consequences. But, it reminded me of something that was taught from the stage at the last event by one of the top earners in Empower. “The way you do one thing, is the way you do everything.”
If I cop out on a blog post here and there, then I’ll cop out on other things. If I keep doing that, then it would become a habit. Next thing you know I would start missing two days, then three.
But, on the other hand, if I just stop making excuses and do it, then it will get done.
So, that’s my advice to you: Kick excusitis in the teeth and just do the work that you know needs to be done.
