How to rank a video on Google in five steps and two days;

Video is definitely the quickest way to rank on the search engines and if you are not using video at the moment, it is certainly the time to start doing so, The Google guys are going to be ranking websites a lot higher going forward if they have Youtube video on them.

You will notice that almost all video footage that is ranked on Google are Youtube videos, this is because Google own Youtube and rank their own videos higher than any competitors. Relevance is the key to ranking on google.

Also if you make a webpage or blog post to embed the video onto, it will rank the video and the webpage at the same time.

Once you have done that, post it onto Google+ and all your other social networking sites for people to view and comment on, the more comments you get, the better, good and bad.

Top tip, Google Love “HOW TO” videos and the more relevant you are the better they rank.

Here are the steps to rank your video on Google.

Step 1 – Make the video;
You can have a screen recording, a pro HD video and even one made on your mobile phone, it doesn’t matter, you can rank a video that you made at the end of a drunken night out using your smart phone, as long as you can transfer the video to your computer ready to upload to Youtube. I sometimes use iMovie to tidy the video up before uploading, but it doesn’t matter too much.

Step 2 – Upload the video to Youtube;
If you do not have a Youtube account, go and open one! Once you have done that you will see a big button that says UPLOAD, hit it, find your video and hit ok! Depending on the length of the video, it will upload in no time, usually a coffee and you are done, after a period of time and behaving on Youtube, they will extend the length of the video you upload.

Step 3 – Youtube Title to include keyword;
You will see an area to insert your Title, It is imperative that your focus keyword is included in the title, for example, if your focus keyword is home based business, the title has to have this keyword included “How To Set Up A Home Based Business” for example.

Step 4 – Youtube video description;
The Youtube description has to include detailed description including the keyword several times in the description and also try to include the Video web page url once you have placed the embed code onto a webpage, Top tip here is to make the first word in the description the URL, because it is a clickable link, for example http://www.YourSite/How-to-set-up-a-home-based-business, followed by a detailed description, which is a pain, but well worth the effort, Gogle look for relevance and content, also you can revisit at any time to update the description.

Step 5 – Youtube Tags to include keyword only;
The tags section should really be called the Keyword section, never ever use different keywords, only one keyword or a variation of that one keyword including that keyword, for example “How to set up a home based business” and Home based business” and “Homebased business”, but never add a different keyword like “Business Opportunity” as well, this totally confuses Youtube and Google, they don’t know where to put you, Make another video for “Business Opportunity” and follow the steps again!

Step 6 – Use the Youtube Annotations;
Use the Youtube annotations to insert your keyword inside the video at least 3 times, it is very simple to do, if you go into edit the video, you will see some tabs at the top, one of them is labelled Annotations, this allows you to insert words into the video, Google love it if you use this option as they can then tell what the video is all about and it ties in with the relevance policy, so in the example we are using you need to add “How to set up a home based business” and “home based business” into the annotations at least 3 times through the duration of the video.

One Last Step – Include the video on a blog post or webpage;
If you have not already done so, write a blog post or a webpage on your site including the keyword, eg yoursite.com/how-to-set-up-a-home-based-business, and on that page, write some content including your keywords and insert the embed code of the video on the page so that it plays on the “Relevant” page.

All this together is perfect for relevance and Google will rank you almost everytime and will even knock off that out of date video that has been there since 2008.

Tip: If you do a search on a keyword before making the video and there are no videos ranking on that particular keyword, it should be even quicker to rank the video.
