Focus on promoting the content of others, to build relationships and give a reason for the author to share your content. This will drive social links to the other article, which in turn will give the author another reason to share your content.
Start off small and build relationships with others that have relatively low visibility, but build many of them. Look for blogs with less activity on them, where the bloggers are in a similar place you are and would be pleased if you shared and linked to their content. You can also create links and share other content you have created as an additional method of building quality links.
The key is that you need to add value to the content that you are sharing. By doing this you are able to reach a wider audience with your own content, and can increase the social media references to your site and could result in others bookmarking your blog, in view what content we might offer in the future. This is valuable, because my future content will have greater exposure.
