Goal setting is very important.  It provides you clear targets to aim for and the ability to measure your progress.

A goal should be written down in a clear concise manner with a time frame identified as to when you want to accomplish it.

I am one of those individuals, who never wrote their goals down.

It’s not that I do not have any.  It’s just that I never felt the need or understood, WHY  I should write them down.

Then one day I was listening to David Wood and he explained the importance of writing your goals down.

What he had to say made perfect sense.  So I said to myself why not follow the 6 Step Formula that Dave himself uses.

Goal Setting – Create Your Outcome & Get Crystal Clear

 1. Set Your Intention & Create Your Outcome

Set a clear intention of what you want, what your desired outcome.

  • How do you want to live?
  • Where do you want to live?
  • How do you want to spend your day?
  • What income do you want to create?
  • Why do you want these things?
  • What will your outcome get you that you don’t have now?
  • What’s the real reason for achieving this outcome?

You want to create an outcome that is perfectly clear.

You want to set a time frame to it so that you know by when you want to accomplish it.

Without a time frame you are basically indicating that you plan to accomplish it at some point in your life time.

2. Get Crystal Clear

Get clear on exactly what you want.

Identify what are you willing to do to accomplish your outcome and what are not you willing to do?

Be specific. Get detailed.  The more specific and detailed you get the clearer you become.

  • Capture what you are willing to do in writing
    • Money (specify a specific amount)
    • Spend 2 to 4 hrs a day
  • Capture what you are not willing to do in writing
    • No 3 ways calls
    • No home parties
    • No hotel meetings
    • No spending more than 4 hours a day on the phone

Your goal should be so clear that if you tell it to a child, they will understand it the first time you describe it.

They will be able to see a picture in their mind and see it as clearly as you do.

Get clear on what you want.

Make sure to write your goal down and when writing you goal, do so in a descriptive manner.

You want to write it …….

  • In the first person
  • In Present tense
  • Be Time based
  • Use as many senses as you can in describing it
  • Get into as much detail as possible
  • Use time based evidence to indicate when you have accomplished your goal

When reading your goal, the description itself should automatically create a visualization of the goal in your mind.

Goal Setting – Create a List of Resources

3. Create a List of Resources

Create a list of resources that you will need to accomplish your goal.

For example, perhaps you want to expand your knowledge on Personal Development.

  • What types of resources would you need to expand your knowledge
    • Books written by individuals who specialize in this area
    • Motivational Videos
    • Inspirational Videos
    • Tapes/Recordings
    • Website
    • Blog
    • Articles

These are just a few of the resources you might need.

Make a list of 25 – 50 resources that you have available to you that can use to accomplish your goal.

4. Create a list of Resources that You do Not Have Yet

Create a list of resources that you do not have yet that will help you in accomplishing your goal.

For example, perhaps your goal is to be able to help others using your knowledge and experience

  • What are some of the resources that you would need in order to help others
    • In the informational age, you are going to want
      • a Blog
      • a Website
      • a Hosting site
    • These would be used as mediums where you can place your content and individuals can come and access it

Write down anything that you can think of that you might need in order to accomplish your goal that you do not presently have.

This is powerful.  Because when you write these things down, your subconscious mind will start looking for them for you, automatically.

Goal Setting – Construct Your Strategy

5. Construct a Meta Strategy

A Meta Strategy is the big picture strategy.

Here you want to identify the core components (big parts) that you will need to build or create your outcome.

You will want to map these out.  You will want to identify the order (if there is one) in which you need these core components.

For example: Lets say your big picture strategy is to become Financially Wealthy building a Business using the Internet

  • What components would you need to in order to accomplish your strategy
    • Products
    • a Blog
    • Traffic
    • a High converting Sale Process
    • a Follow Up system

Write down your meta strategy.  Identify all of the big picture components so that you know exactly what you need to create in order to get the results that you want.

6. Construct a Micro Strategy

Now that you have the big picture, you need to construct a micro strategy.

A micro strategy is the detailed information.  It is the strategy with in each core component of your meta strategy.

So if we look at the example that we used in our Meta Strategy, we would want to start to asking questions like:

  • What products will we sell?
  • What is our blogging strategy?
  • What is our traffic strategy?
  • What is our sales process?
  • What is our follow up system?
  • How are we going to build it?

These are the types of questions that you need to be asking yourself to identify the micro strategy components that make up or are part of your core components.

You want to write down your micro strategies.  Identify all of the detailed components that go into your micro strategy.  Create time frames for building the micro strategy components.  This way you know when you will accomplish them.

Goal Setting – Conclusion

When setting goals use this process.  It is a process that Dave has personally used to create the results he wants.  He has taught it to many others and those who have chosen to use it are also seeing results.

When using this process, it is important that you set timelines and milestones. You want to create milestones for completing parts of the micro strategy followed by components of the meta strategy.

When you have accomplished those milestones, you will realize you are on your way to accomplishing your outcome. Milestones empower and motivate you to continue moving forward, always.

When you have your goal, meta/micro strategies and milestones written down and your outcome is clear; you’re going to start getting results.
