9 Email Marketing Tips I would like to share with you.
The 9 email marketing tips that I am sharing with you today will help you with:
- Getting your message opened
- Getting your message read
- Getting your links clicked on
Would this be something of interest to you? If so, go ahead keep reading and check out the Tips below.
I was introduced to these tips when I attended a live hangout held by Aaron Rashkin. Aaron was teaching the email marketing strategies that he uses in his business and he was providing that knowledge to those of us who attend. What he provided was so valuable that I wanted to pass it onto you, in the hopes that you may find it as benefical as I did.
Email Marketing Tip #1
This tip is about the use of “ly” words in your email. They are very powerful words based on their use and what is implied by their usage. Here are a few examples:
- Really
- Only – minimizes the length of time that it took and compresses all of the time in the past into NOW. It brings a person into the present. It shortens the distance between where you were and were you are NOW. Subconsciously brings the person into the present.
- Seriously – isolates a voice of reason. Isolates everything else from what you are about to tell them. “Seriously this is about the best advice I can give you”. It provides a voice of reason with your audience.
- Amazingly
- Certainly
- Hardly
- Truly
- Clearly – positions you as a authority. “Clearly there is nothing better than what I am about to tell you right now”.
- Honestly – separates everything else you said before so that what you are about to say them holds more value. “Honestly what I am teaching right now is some of the most important stuff that I could possibly teach you”. It raises the value in what you are telling them.
“ly” words are very important. You do not want to over use them. You want to spread them throughout your email, so that they do not stand out. They make a huge difference in how you compel people and in the strength of your message itself.
Email Marketing Tip #2
This email tip is about the use of Story Telling where the topic or story spans a series of emails.
Here you want to keep a conversation going but you also want to allow anyone knew joining the conversation to be able to catch up by providing the previous email or emails going back to the beginning email that started the series. Similar to an email trail that some of you maybe familiar with.
So here is what you would do:
- Send out the next email in the series about the exact same topic.
- The new email will appear in the upper portion of the email
- You want to grab the timestamp of the previous email you sent out and place it below the new one you just added
- Place your previous email that you sent below the timestamp.
- Repeat steps 3 and 4 for each email in the series working backwards towards email 1.
Ex:
New email would appear here:
Timestamp information (consists of items listed below up to Previous email):
———-Forwarded message————–
From:
Date:
Subject:
To:
Previous email would appear here:
By using the above method, you allow new individuals into the ongoing conversation that you already have going with your audience. This allows the new individual to feel like they are part of the group. They feel like they are now included in the conversation that started before they showed up. It creates equality amongst all.
Email Marketing Tip #3
This tip is about Polarizing your audience. When you market to everybody, you are marketing to NOBODY.
So here you want to be developing a base of friends, fans and followers. You want to be developing a rapor with your audience, where they look forward to hearing from you. You want to be sharing what you think, your opinions, what you believe in, what your vision is. You want to provide them with value which can be in the form of information, education, inspiration etc. You wan to give them a reason to open up your emails, read the content and click on your links.
Now not everyone is going to like what you have to say. They may not even like you. That is ok cause you will not please everyone. Just remember there are individuals out there who are looking for what you have to say and they will look forward to the information and value that you are providing.
Email Marketing Tip #4
This tip is about Conditioning. This is where you are preparing someone to buy your products. There are 4 ways you can do this.
4 Ways to Condition someone to buy your products:
- Price – here you are talking about something that has a particular value. You want to provide them with the monetary value of what they will be receiving. You want to tell them what they will be receiving if they purchase this product (content, information, education, connection, inspiration etc.). You want the value of the product to always out way the price. The higher the value is, the lower the price feels. Once you have provided all of the value that they will receive, the price of the product feels less. To offer incentive to purchase your product, you can lower the price point on your product from what you provided initially so they receive even more value for their purchase because they get the same value it just is going to cost them less to purchase it. Thus you have raised the value even more.
- Effort – here you are telling people what they are going to have to do to get results. This lets them know that there is some type of work or effort involved in order for them to produce the results they are looking for. You can provide the steps that you go through so they have an idea as to what you are doing and it allows them to see if it is something they could or would want to do.
- Expectation – this is where you tell them what they can expect when they get started. You provide them with the list of things that they will need to do once they get started. You can do this in an email where you lay out the steps they will need to complete once they get started. You can do it in video form where you walk them through and show them the different steps they will need to complete when they get started. This lets them know before they purchase that there are some expectations of them once they purchase.
- Competitor – comparing something else to what you have
Email Marketing Tip #5
This tip is about providing Social Proof. Here you want to capture and show others what people are saying that and that there are folks just like themselves succeeding.
Different ways to provide Social Proof:
- Social Proof – you want to take screen shots of what others are saying in Facebook or any of the social media sites and include them in your emails.
- Testimonials – you want to include any product testimonials from others, so that your audience can see and read what others are saying
- Images – you want to include images in your emails. People like to view images.
- Videos – you want to include n image of a video and have a link to the video so it can be watched
- Screen shots – document you own journey of successes or successes of others that you know
Email Marketing Tip #6
This tip is about Segmenting and Re-broadcasting your list. This tip can double, triple and quadruple your sales.
You want to separate your list into categories based on an action an individual on your list has taken or not taken and mailing them again.
- The first thing you want to do is identify those individuals that did not open the email.
- You want to create a segment of those individuals who did not open the original email and call it “No Opens” and include the Title of the Email.
- Re-Broadcast the original email to those individuals who did not open it and change the Title on the Email to something else that still goes along with the topic of the email.
You can continue to re-broadcast the same email narrowing it down to those individuals who have not opened as many times as you like. This will allow you to get the most leverage out of your emails as possible.
Email Marketing Tip #7
This tip covers Word and Image linking.
- Word and Image Linking – you want your images and impact words to be clickable links. We live in a click happy society and if you have clickable links in your email and you use compelling words and images, your readers will click on those links to visit your message and blog more times than not.
Email Marketing Tip #8
This tip covers Message Scheduling, Cycles of Attention, White Space, Breathing Room and Consumption/Digestion
- Message Scheduling – this is a great way to make sure your emails get sent at a specific time or times thorough the day or on different days. You can set the schedule to be Daily. Weekly or Monthly. Whatever you prefer. It is a great way to make sure that your information gets sent and you do not have to worry about it.
- Cycles of Attention – has to do with it just not being the right time for the individual we are emailing. What do I mean by this, sometimes the emails we send are ignored. Sometimes they get deleted and sometimes they get read but no action is taken. We do not know what is going on at that moment in time when the email arrives in their in box. So if someone does not open or take any action on your email, you do not want to worry about it. What you want to do is continue to send out your emails. You want to continue to follow up with that individual on your list. You want to stay consist and continue to do what you are doing regardless of what their action is. When the timing is right, they will take an action and you want to be there when it is. As long as they remain subscribed to your list, they still want to hear from you.
- White Space – when you are writing an email, you want to make sure that you have white space between the lines. This makes for easier reading. You want to keep your email narrow so that it is easy to read on a mobile device. You do want not have them scroll to the far right to continue to read your content. If you do, you will loose them. Better to go narrow and long with white space in between.
- Create Breathing Room – add …. when you want them to take a small pause. This allows them to take a small break where you want them to.
- Consumption and Digestion – you want to allow them to be able to consume and digest the content that you just wrote about before proceeding to the next paragraph or grouping of information.
Email Marketing Tip #9
This tip is about Authenticity. This is a very critical tip.
You want to be yourself. You want to write how you speak. Nothing comes across more powerfully than when you communicate in written word the same way you communicate with people in person.

Hey Sue these are really great email marketing tips. And have found that being myself instead of the ole ‘copy and paste’ that most are told to do when they get started with their online business, is a better way to go. Adding images of yourself as well in the signature is also a great way to build that rapport, which we all know is about getting your subscribers to respond. Thanks for sharing these valuable tips!
