Recently, I was experiencing a discouraging moment in my life. Instead of just learning the lesson from it, I dwelt upon it and that moment turned into several days of discouragement. Because I was focusing on the negative, my life became negative and I needed to find a way to re-focus my thoughts.
I went to my personal development library and was inspired to grab my copy of “The Power Of Positive Thinking” by Norman Vincent Peale and began to read the first chapter entitled, “Believe In Yourself.” It was the exact message I needed to pull myself out of my doldrums.
This chapter was filled with motivational stories that taught me how to turn my negative emotions of fear, doubt and disbelief into faith that motivated me to action. Here are a few quotes I pulled from the chapter that helped me out.
“Be bold, and mighty forces will come to your aid.”
“They conquer who believe they can . . . do the thing that you fear and the death of fear is certain.” – Emerson
“Never take counsel of your fears.” – Stonewall Jackson
THE SECRET IS TO FILL YOUR MIND WITH THOUGHTS OF FAITH, CONFIDENCE AND SECURITY.
Here are 10 simple things you can do to believe in yourself.
(Suggestions for the 1st Chapter in “The Power of Positive Thinking”)
1. Formulate and stamp indelibly on your mind a mental picture of yourself succeeding. Hold that picture in your mind and never let it fade. Never think of yourself as failing; never doubt the reality of your mental image.
2. Whenever a negative thought concerning your personal powers comes to mind, deliberately voice a positive thought (such as a quote like the ones above) to cancel it out.
3. Do not build up obstacles in your imagination. Minimize them. Difficulties must be studied and efficiently dealt with to be eliminated.
4. Do not be awestruck by other people and try to copy them. Nobody can be you as efficiently as YOU can. Remember also that most people, despite their confident appearance and demeanor, are often as scared as you are and as doubtful of themselves.
5. Repeat 10 times daily, “If God be for us, who can be against us?”
6. Get a competent counselor to help you understand why you do what you do.
7. Ten times a day practice the following affirmation, repeating it out loud if possible, “I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.”
8. Make a true estimate of your won ability, then raise it by 10%. Do not be egotistical, but develop a wholesome self-respect. Believe in your own God-released powers.
9. Put yourself in God’s hands. To do simply state, “I am in God’s hands.” Then receive you are NOW receiving all the power you need. “Feel” it flowing into you in the form of adequate power to meet life’s demands.
10. Remind yourself that God is with you and nothing can defeat you. Believe that you are now receiving power from him.
I have learned through recent experiences that there is power in faith to overcome your fears and become the person you desire and dream that you can be. It takes no more mental effort to have faith rather than fear. But their is a tremendous difference in the results you get in life depending upon where your focus is.
Now go HAVE FAITH and work towards the life you truly desire.
