Opportunity Seeker or Strategic Entrepreneur?

There are two basic ways of thinking when it comes to building a business or making money online–opportunity seekers and strategic entrepreneurs.  Which one are you?

OPPORTUNITY SEEKERS

Opportunity seekers think opportunistically, always on the lookout for the next big thing, the next cool idea or opportunity where they can make a quick buck.  When an opportunity arises and they jump on it.  They are always looking to make lots of money from the hot item of the day.  Usually, their only criteria is, “Can I make money from this?”

Most of these type of business owners struggle day-to-day to take care of their business because they are always taking action what what appears to be the most appealing thing that day, rather than having a long-term vision of what they want to accomplish with their business.

Opportunity seekers buy lots of products, but rarely use any of them, and the ones that they do use get abandoned as soon as the next “easy” way to make money comes along.  The question that is always at the forefront of their mind is, “What’s the easiest way for me to make money right now?”  Ironically, they are the easiest people to sell to because if you can convince them that they can make money with it, they WILL buy!

Opportunity seekers never stick with one thing long enough ever to make any real money.  Rather than focusing on one thing, they are always looking for the next thing and wonder why they never get ahead.

Few opportunity seekers ever make the switch to thinking like a strategic entrepreneur, but nothing will change in their business until they do.

STRATEGIC ENTREPRENEURS

True entrepreneurs think completely opposite of an opportunity seeker.  They start with one opportunity and have a strategic vision of what they want their business to become and they always have a plan on how they are going to get there.

Because they have a vision of what their future business looks like, they can analyze their own strengths and weaknesses, the strength and weaknesses of their competitors, and can see the holes in the marketplace. With this analysis,they can then devise their own plans for achieving their strategic vision.

Rather than chasing every new opportunity that comes their way, strategic entrepreneurs evaluate the pros and cons of each opportunity to determine if it fits into the plans that they have already established.  Then they will pick the strategies that will most likely help them achieve their vision.

The strategic entrepreneur knows that the opportunity lies within the business they have chosen and not in the hot product of the week that everyone else may be promoting. They are the most difficult to sell because they have to determine if it fits into their strategic vision or not.  If the thing that is being offered is superior to what they are already doing, and it helps them achieve their vision in a better and quicker way, then they will buy.

WHICH ONE ARE YOU?

Take some time to evaluate how you are doing business right now.  If you find yourself following the path of the opportunity seekers, make a decision to start becoming a strategic entrepreneur instead.

Choose ONE business.  Choose ONE marketing strategy.  Focus . . . until you are getting the results that compliment your long-term vision and strategy.  Be open to opportunity, but only if it fits within your current business strategy and produces better results than you are currently achieving.
