Michonne Walking Dead – The Most Badass Zombie Killer Around?

Restored from the Empower Network archive (2011–2017), lightly edited to meet our current advertising standards. Views are the original author’s.

Michonne Walking Dead is arguably the coolest killer of walkers in the TV series the Walking Dead. Where most of the survivors in Walking Dead use pistols like the leader Rick Grime, bats, clubs, axes, or in Daryl’s case a crossbow, Michonne has a unique weapon of choice. What is it? Two katanas that she wields with a deadly, lethal force that puts the “dead” back in the undead.

Not a whole lot is known about Michonne Walking Dead and Season 3 of AMC’s Walking Dead hit TV show is really the first full season where Michonne is shown. She made a brief cameo in season two’s epic finale “By the Dying Fire” where she saves a fleeing and distressed Andrea. Andrea who had spent all night dealing with the raging undead horde that sieged Hershel’s farm, is all out of bullets, all out of stamina, and is trapped by a walker who she no longer has the power to fight.

That is when Michonne Walking Dead comes in and saves Andrea’s life. A quick glint of steel, and that walker’s head is beheaded, and Andrea saved. What an ominous image to be saved by though! A dark cowled figure (Michonne) in the woods with two sharp swords glinting by the light of the moon, with two Walkers whose jaws have been cut off and arms torn from their sockets shackled to her. I mean, if I was in Andrea’s situation, I would almost think I had gotten myself into an even worse problem than just the walkers.

Is Michonne Walking Dead Legit?

Nevertheless, Michonne Walking Dead is one of the good guys here. Her and Andrea eventually make it to a drug store in Season 2 of the Walking Dead, where Michonne quickly dispatches a small horde of walking dead within the pharmacy. From there, Michonne heals Andrea up with aspirin and some other medicine she can find to help Andrea fight her oncoming case of influenza. Throughout this whole process, Andrea pleads with Michonne just to leave her, which Michonne refuses to do.

Very much like the actual graphic novel the Walking Dead, AMC’s Walking Dead’s Michonne is an introverted, quiet but fierce and ruthless warrior. She is extremely suspicious of people on first encounters, as she shows very explicitly with the Governor of Woodbury. Along with being suspicious, she gives out very little information of her own past. Even Andrea, who has been traveling now with Michonne for some time at this point, knows very little about her katana wielding warrior friend.

At Woodbury, Michonne’s introverted paranoia surfaces to a new level when the Governor of Woodbury takes her katanas from her (and Andrea’s weapons to boot). The Governor of Woodbury claims that Michonne Walking Dead and Andrea will be safe in Woodbury, but Michonne Walking Dead is not one to believe the Governor at face value. As Season 3 continues, Michonne investigates more and more the Governor’s position in Woodbury and just what exactly this little army he is brewing is up to. Eventually, the Governor asks for Michonne to join him, enlist in his ranks if you will, which she flat out refuses.

For some mysterious reason, Michonne Walking Dead tells Andrea they need to get to the coast. That once they get to the coast, they will be safe. It seems like a highly unlikely conclusion to come to, but then the heroes of the Walking Dead TV series have very little hope to begin with. Much like in the movie The Road, the prize at the end of the tunnel is not the savior so much as the thought that there might be a prize at the end of the tunnel.

The actress that plays Michonne is none other than Danai Gurira, an African American actress who did not actually appear as Michonne at the end of Season 2 of AMC’s Walking Dead. She is one of a few characters (such as Judith Grimes) who has been played by two different actresses in the show. Danai Gurira said in a televised interview that she practiced and trained for acting Michonne’s role by watching a ton (I am assuming a massive amount based off her katana wielding skills) samurai movies and practicing with actual sword fighting techniques. Her practice has definitely paid off. Out of all the characters in the Walking Dead, I would say Michonne’s survivability is one of the highest. Unlike the other survivors in the Walking Dead show, Michonne Walking Dead does not need to use a gun. She does not need a supply of arrows either to keep her crossbow loaded. She has an unlimited supply of ammo in her dual wielding katana walker beheading style.

Back Up. Michonne Walking Dead Might Not Be the Best with a Gun…

Of course, putting a gun in Michonne’s hand is probably not a great idea either. As according to the Walking Dead TV show (which differs from the Walking Dead graphic novel), Michonne is a horrible shot with a gun. Her accuracy could use a huge improvement, and she probably is not going to save anyone by firing off a firearm correctly. Luckily, she rarely has to, her dual wielding swords are usually more than enough violence to take care of any unlucky Walker.

However, in the 3rd season of Walking Dead, Michonne has a lot bigger problems than just the Walkers. Michonne Walking Dead has to deal with Andrea who is sick, lost and insecure, while also investigating the ominous character known as the Governor of Woodbury. Michonne is perhaps right to mistrust the Governor, especially when the likes of the returned Merle Dixon has come to love the man as a “good man”. Anyone that Merle believes to be a good man, most likely is only good at being extremely dangerous.

Without giving too many spoilers away in AMC’s Walking Dead Season 3, Michonne Walking Dead is an obvious badass. Anyone that can survive a zombie apocalypse, while having two Walkers chained to her that she dismembered to “domesticate” them, and doing it all with a samurai flourish… is a born badass. As Walking Dead continues to develop, we will wait and watch as Michonne’s past is revealed in more detail (and as she slices up more Walkers with her katana, proving what a badass Michonne Walking Dead is).

After waching all of this walking dead…. I decided I need to retire asap so I can stay home and watch MORE tv vs going to my engineering job… no joke…. I retired at 33 so I can veg out at home watching more walking dead and playing the walking dead xbox game. See how I retired at 33 and now get to watch more tv like Michonne Walking Dead stuff.
