7 Easy And Fun Ways To Eat More Fruits And Veges

Restored from the Empower Network archive (2011–2017), lightly edited to meet our current advertising standards. Views are the original author’s.

The National Cancer Institute and the Food Guide Pyramid recommend five to nine servings of fruits and vegetables per day to ward off cancer and other diseases. Unfortunately, only about a quarter of adults eat Five-A-Day, even though it is so easy when you make it convenient….as convenient as grabbing chips and junk food or going through a drive through.

It took me 10 minutes to wash the fruits and veges, dry them off and put them into these easy oblong Ziplock containers with tops.

I realized that it’s so much easier to eat fruits and veges this way because they are available to eat now! My kiddos and I went through all of these fruits and veges in 4 days!

I pair the veges with hummus or just eat plain. We like the fruit plain or as a topping to vanilla organic yogurt.

Here are some tips and facts for Easy And Fun Ways To Eat Your Fruits And Veges:

– Fruits and vegetables are great sources of vitamins, minerals, phytochemicals, water and fiber.

– Frozen fruits and vegetables are nearly as nutritious as fresh. Use frozen if it is more convenient

– Drinking your veges cuts down the digestive process and gets right to the point of your body absorbing the nutrients! I use the Nutribullet and it’s my most favorite kitchen appliance.

– Spinach juice has twice the chlorophyl, eight times the calcium, six times the magnesium, 10 times the potassium, 15 times the vitamin C and 43 times the vitamin A of wheatgrass juice!

– Fruits and veggies are rich in vitamins and minerals that help you feel healthy and energized.

– Leafy, green vegetables and broccoli are high in carotenoids and folate which help prevent ageing, and onions, apples and grapes contain cholesterol-reducing flavonoids.

7 Easy And Fun Ways To Eat More Fruits And Veges

  1. Healthy side dishes: rather than fries or chips with a meal, select corn on the cobb, fresh or steamed vege’s.
  2. Juice it: Juice your fruits and vege’s for a meal or a snack in between meals. Brooke Burke and Dr. Oz both highly recommend fruit/vege protein shakes See how I makes a fruit protein shake in less than 2 minutes.
  3. Add vege’s to pasta: saute your vege’s and top your pasta with olive oil, garlic and those yummy vege’s.
  4. All dried up: eat dried fruit – 1/4 cup of dried fruit equals 1/2 cup of fresh fruit. You could mix these with mixed nuts for a high protein high fiber snack.
  5. Pizza toppers: rather than choosing meats for your pizza topping, choose vege’s like onion, zucchini, spinach and mushrooms to name a few.
  6. Eggilicious: add chopped vege’s to your scrambled eggs (I like spinach, peppers, onions, mushrooms) – colorful, fun, delish!
  7. Add fresh fruit to your pancakes. See my yummy blueberry pancake recipe here.
Take these simple tips to start eating more fruits and vege’s in your and your families daily eating regimen.
