Lieutenant Daniel Taylor: Have you found Jesus yet, Gump?
Forrest Gump: I didn’t know I was supposed to be looking for him, sir.
My son turned 3 on January 13th.
I give my kids official birthday parties with friends, themes, all the fun big kid things a party deserves, when they turn 3.
I scheduled it for the weekend of his birthday and had to reschedule due to scheduling conflicts.
We scheduled it go down this past weekend on the 26th.
We were going to have a barnyard birthday party, with baby animals brought in for the kiddos to touch, hold, brush, play with….squeeze too hard and bug the heck out of for 1 hour.
Mind you, I live in Arizona, and so it’s almost ALWAYS sunny. As a matter of fact, it rains 34 days per year in Phoenix, Arizona where the city gets more than 0.1mm of precipitation.
On Saturday January 26th, there was a “torrential” down pour of non stop rain for almost 24 hours. I felt like I was living in Oregon again.
I love the rain while living in Arizona, just not yesterday.
I had to cancel my sons birthday….the entire damn birthday party.
Would most moms have a back up plan where they could entertain 13 kiddos in their house for 2 hours??
Not me……by the way, I was TOTALLY sick with a sinus infection and I had lost my voice due to this nasty cold.
When I went to sleep the night before the party, I was NOT going to let a little rain stop me. I honestly did not think it was going to POUR!!!
So, after stalking the farm animal dude with 5 voicemails the night before, I decided the morning of the party, I just didn’t have it in me to have a “plan b” that was going to be fun, and satisfy the masses and my son.
I was sitting at the table and started to sob……quietly. My husband walks by and hugs me. Says, “It’s ok sweetie….he’s only 3. He won’t remember this, and the other people will understand.”
I cried for 2 minutes (maybe 5) and then I was done.
I had cancelled the party, but my heart had not cancelled the party. My heart was broken for not being able to throw my son his first big birthday party.
Luckily he is only 3 and he literally did not care much when I broke the news to him.
So, to patch things up….and really make myself feel better (I think), I had one of his best friends over to play with him and my daughter.
Before his friend came over, I took my son to Target to pick out a cake (we cancelled the balloon and cake order first thing in the morning at the cake shop).
So, with a fun little cake, some fun games, his best two friends (his sister and preschool buddy) — he had a fun day and I was happy he had fun.
My cold proceeded to get worse as I just kept pushing myself throughout the day and my stress level had peaked in the morning due all the rain and party cancellation drama. I was SPENT.
Thank GOD for my amazing husband. He took care of everything that evening. I just napped on the couch and watched Forest Gump and cried like I always do on the good parts and laughed on the funny parts.
Throughout the day and into the evening, our birthday party guests would bring by a gift for my son, since they weren’t able to attend the party. I thought that was a class-act move and super classy. My son loved it!!
Still, he never really put the whole thing together.
Today, Sunday January 27th, there is no rain. The clouds are parting in the sky and the blue sky is peeking out and trying to reveal itself. My cold is feeling better and my voice is at an audible level for having a conversation with my husband, loving on my kiddos and raising my voice when needed to get everyone’s attention ….my inner happy energy is trying to reveal itself.
Today would have been a GREAT day for a barnyard birthday party, if it was yesterday.
Sometimes, things just aren’t meant to be. I don’t know why. It just is. I believe it’s God’s way of stopping a chain of events.
It’s kinda like Forest Gump said……
Jenny, I don’t know if Momma was right or if, if it’s Lieutenant Dan. I don’t know if we each have a destiny, or if we’re all just floating around accidental-like on a breeze, but I, I think maybe it’s both. Maybe both is happening at the same time.
So, maybe things just happen, or maybe there is a destiny…..for things like….
first big birthday parties, for career paths and jobs we’ve loved but were laid off, babies that are wanted so badly but never happened the way we intend, babies that happened unplanned and become blessings, loves that never took hold and you felt devastated but ‘the one’ was waiting around the corner or maybe 10 years down the road, opportunities that were missed because you just weren’t ready for it to happen, businesses that were tried and never became the definition of success that society or ourselves qualify as ‘success’, things that were gained and lost and regained again, maybe never regained again in the same fashion, dreams that were chased and never seen to the full fruition in your mind’s and heart’s dream — but instead something else was revealed.
So, maybe your destiny is now, by reading this.
Maybe you are pushing your circumstances to happen and it’s so hard to push through it – because it’s not meant to be.
Maybe your the type, like Forrest where life comes to you rather than you chasing the dream.
A magnetic energy where literally things happen to you that most only dream of.
I like watching some movies over and over as life goes on and I get wiser and more open to the Universe…..my perspective on the movie changes as I change.
I’m a stay at home and I make money from blogging….for real. I never thought that would be possible. It was never a dream. My dream was to be at home with my family, for my children 24/7 and make an income that is able to provide that.
I had other dreams too, but I was too this….or too that…the timing wasn’t right, or was it, and it just wasn’t my destiny?
Maybe you’re ‘meant to be’ is right in front of you…..you just need a vehicle to get you there.
Check out how so many people, including myself, are taught by Empower Network how to blog and market the system and the blog online to attract other people who are looking for a vehicle.
Check it out here……your ‘meant to be.……maybe….you never know until you have an open ear and give it a go’.
