You Have the Power

I’m not a big fan of watching a lot of television, but when I am watching tv, it’s usually kid shows with my daughter, nieces, and nephews. Avatar the Last Airbender airs on Nicktoons, and it has become one of my favorite shows to watch.  It keeps my daughter interested long enough for me to get some blogging done, and they are often running marathons or showing back to back episodes so it’s on a numerous times of the day. It’s so convenient because it’s usually on whenever I’m ready to get something done without having to record it.

This is the case today. Avatar is airing all day long, and  I really like the show. Kora is my favorite, but Ang is growing on me. It’s something about the elements that keeps drawing me in. I haven’t quite figured it out yet. But anyway,right now we are watching  the episode where Ang visits a fortune teller. The fortune teller sees battle in the Avatar’s future but not love. Bummer huh? Why is love often the first thing we have to sacrifice in life in order to be successful?

We shouldn’t have to sacrifice love for success or destiny. So many people choose their careers over family. But it doesn’t have to be that way. People need to realize that you can have both. This is the fortune tellers message to the Avatar. Although she doesn’t see love in the Avatar’s future, she tells him to follow his heart. At the end she gives him a wise piece of advise worth noting. “Just as you reshaped those clouds you have the power to shape your own destiny,” she tells Ang.

Ang doesn’t have this power simply because he’s the Avatar. Even though he is the Avatar, he’s young and inexperienced. Ang’s destiny is to bring balance to the universe by mastering all four elements water, air, fire, and earth. It’s going to take a lot of hard work and focus for him to accomplish this so one would think he has no time for love. Because it’s important to Ang, he chooses to make time. In the next episode, he fights for his love interest’s necklace, sewing his affection for her into his destiny. As a result, he earns a kiss, and is more successful along his journey.

What can we learn from the Avatar? Life without love is not balance.  When its all said and done, if we don’t have a mate to share with in life or if our relationship is on the rocks because we didn’t invest in it as much as we should have along the journey to success, then we have not reached success at all. Love is essential. When we choose to shape our own destiny, we can experience love and balance.  What’s important to you? Success in one area or all areas? Take action to shape your own destiny, and remember that balance and love are key.
