Teens are turning to trendy and cooler new apps which could affect the future of Facebook

It seems Facebook is not cool anymore.
Teenagers are actually growing tired and bored with the social media giant.
And as Facebook approaches its tenth anniversary the firm published its annual 10-K report last month revealing that its younger users are increasingly turning away from the multi-billion dollar business. Read more here.
And as teenagers turn to the hottest and more trendy apps to hangout and communicate with their friends, could this be the beginning of the end for Facebook?
The Future of Facebook could be shaped by the trendy new apps and social media sites like Instagram and Snapchat

Teens are turning to Instagram and Snapchat to communicate with their friends.
It seems they want to speak to each other in instant pictures.
And more and more are finding Facebook boring.
Here is a great example:
…the founder and of new social networking site Branch, Josh Miller, asked his fifteen-year-old sister for her opinion on Facebook.
Her verdict was damning: ‘She tries to visit Facebook as infrequently as possible,’ Miller wrote, because it’s addictive, and because it’s not as fun as Instagram. ‘Facebook may have an irreversibly bad brand,’ Miller concluded. Read more here.
This could grow to be a huge problem for Facebook.
If the next generation grows into adulthood and doesn’t use the social media site in their daily lives this could be a big problem for the future of Facebook.
To make matters more concerning….
The Future of Facebook will be without director of product Blake Ross
Blake Ross announced he would no longer be the director of product at Facebook.
His departure comes at a time when Facebook really needs to work on it’s image.
What is going on over there?
The company that defined cool on the internet seems to be getting less and less cool.
So how do they stop the bleeding?
It will be interesting to watch.
Now I don’t think the Future of Facebook is in immediate danger
Facebook continues to be the number 2 most trafficked site in the world, behind Google.
And I don’t think there is any immediate danger to the company.
But this certainly is a trend they have to address.
They have to find a way to reverse this trend and attract younger users.
For the long term sustainability of the company, I look for some changes coming that will help change the Future of Facebook.
