In a recent report on the Direct Marketing News website Companies are said to be aiming towards increasing their digital marketing budgets by 9% on average in 2013, a survey of 250 marketers claim that they devote an average of 25% of their marketing budgets to digital pursuits. Companies are spending more and more updating their company websites so that they create a better online presence, also the way they are structuring their websites is changing so that they can include a blog page, social media streams, call to action buttons and lead capture tools.

Most companies out there are only using a web or blog page to market themselves online unless they recruit a marketer that is familiar with the digital marketing industry, this obviously is an added overhead and a lot of businesses do not believe it is worth the cost. This leaves a huge gap in the market for people like me who have been taught to market brands and products by the pros, we have the opportunity to provide a consultancy service to companies that want to outsource this marketing technique as they have a new budget to do so.

In my opinion I believe every company no matter how big or how small they are should build a good online presence using digital marketing, if you look at the huge multinationals such as Coca-Cola and Procter & Gamble they currently devote as much as 40% of their budgets to digital. Most of the techniques you can use to achieve this are free but can be very powerful if you know how to use them in the correct way. Take social media for example if a potential customer lands on your website and is interested in your product the first thing they will do is go and check out your Blog, Facebook, Twitter and Linkedin pages, if they do a search and you do not appear you lose brand recognition straight away. Now imagine you had profiles set up on each of these platforms that get millions of hits per day, and these profiles were packed full of information on your products and services. Now imagine you could direct people who see these profiles to other profiles that will engage with them in a different ways Stumbleupon, Pinterest, Chimein, Digg etc are other good sites for sharing content.
