Video Marketing Tips Part 2

Lights, Camera, Video!

For those of you that had the chance to look at part 1 of this blog “Video marketing tips part 1” I hope you enjoyed the content, if you didn’t get a chance to see the blog you can view it .

I discussed in the previous blog post where you can get inspiration to create great video content, how you can distribute your videos and explained how video is key in keeping up with technology. I am still quite new to video marketing but as I create more and more videos the more tips I pick up on how to create successful content, there is a wealth of knowledge out there and I wanted to give you access to it all In one place.

Using others to create video

The key to any good video content is keeping your audience engaged but different people are attracted to different things so you need to constantly change the type of content you are producing, a good way to do this is by inviting others to get in on the action.

So how can you use other people in your videos?

– Get an expert in your field to be a special guest speaker

– Get you customers to give you a testimonial on video

– Record an interview or webinar conversation with a colleague or customer

– If you have good editing software you could include a snippet of a famous speaker

The reality is that not everybody has the same tastes and if there is more than 1 person in the video then you are more likely to build a relationship with the viewer if you have multiple personalities in your content, it is also more entertaining to have more than one person in your video content as you can create interesting conversations and some light banter.

Invest in a good editing suite

People will approach video marketing at different skill levels I personally had a bit of experience from university but like most of you I am no Quentin Tarantino, the overall goal of different marketers will also be different so you need to plan your campaigns accordingly.

There are 2 options when finalising your video “just run with it” or take it in to post production and edit the content you have, most of you will be happy with the footage you have and that is fine as an unpolished looking video can work in your favour as it is relaxed and engages with your audience on a social level rather than a professional level.

The only problem is with not editing your video content is that you are limited on what you can produce as you have to keep the camera in a fixed position and film only one sequence, if you are interested in creating different types of content (See previous section) then you need to be able to edit.

There a Free and Paid versions on offer so it depends on what it is you want to achieve:

– Camtasia (has different packages but is around £220 for the basic)

– Windows movie maker (Free)

– Avidemux (Free)

– VSDC Free Video Editor

Screen Capture – You don’t always need an actor!

Screen capture is a good technique to use but I would use it solely to create your videos as there is no actor to build a relationship just a voice over, basically if I wanted to show you how to use one of the above editing suites rather than writing a long blog I could edit a piece of video on my laptop and use screen capture to record the process.

The good thing about using screen casts is that it can help the people who camera shy to get their videos rocking and rolling and also there are some brilliant free screen capture programmes out there that create clear and professional captures.

Make sure your content is heard!

If you are going to invest in anything to enhance your video making capabilities make sure you spend some money on a microphone, as I said before the quality of the video hasn’t got to be cinema standard but your message needs to be heard. If a viewer has to battle to hear what you are saying they are going to go elsewhere for information, some editing software’s have audio enhancement options so you can reduce background noise and raise speech volume. If you do not have the budget to invest in extra equipment make sure that you stand close enough to the speaker when using the built-in audio on your camera, another trick is to record the audio on a different device then combine it with the visual capture using your editing software but again this is advanced stuff.

Create a podcast feed!

ITunes has 160 million users in 23 countries, so adding your video podcast to their directory should be at the top of your list. Don’t put all your eggs in one basket a just publish you content on YouTube as you will narrow your market reach.

Podbean.com is a good site to use for free podcast hosting and publishing.

The biggest tip I will give you is don’t over teach yourself! There is no better education than jumping in feet first and “doing”. You will make mistakes and you will learn from them, so START TODAY!
