1. Decide what to blog about.
The first step in learning how to blog for money is picking your niche! People will tell you to choose something you are interested in, and that is important, but if the whole reason for your blog is to make you money then you want to get the most out of it by picking a strong “money getting” niche!
The secret to an “Evergreen” money niche (as in something that makes money regardless of trends, economy, etc.) is that it should fall into one of three categories: Health, Wealth, or Love. These are things people are ALWAYS willing to spend money on. This blog is in the “wealth” category, but the affiliate marketing/blogging niche!
2. Building Your Subscriber List
You probably already know the true secret to how to blog for money or do anything online for money these days is to build a subscriber list! This means you want to be building a list of followers who are interested in your blog. You will need to have an optin box or link to a capture page somewhere on the front of your blog. Give your list something in return for subscribing. Don’t just suggest that they sign up for your newsletter, because they won’t! On this page I get people to opt-in to watch a video that will show people HOW to make more money than ever online with a simple system. I know the video gives my list great value in what it teaches. After the opt-in offer you want to send them valuable emails. The easiest way is to send your list an email when you have a new blog post they would like!
Note: Don’t make every email to your list a marketing email! They won’t appreciate it!
3. A Clear Message Can Be Hypnotic
Instead of marketing a new product or service to your list every week stick to one clear message. As your list grows to trust you and knows you deliver solid info they will become more and more likely to follow your advice, IF that advice doesn’t change! That doesn’t mean you can’t recommend a new tool every now and then. But try to stick to marketing ONE solution to their main problem.
You can get the most out of this by making that solution a continuity program (i.e. something they pay for monthly). NEVER recommend ANYTHING that you haven’t tried yourself. Pick something you’ve tried and like, that pays you a high percentage commission per sale (go for 100% if you can find it!) and that bills monthly so you can build up a steady reliable income from your blog!
4. Establishing Your Expertise
Most people don’t understand how to blog for money because they don’t deliver a clear message and don’t establish themselves as an expert in their field! To be an expert you simply have to know a little bit more than your leads and subscribers know about your niche! You can do this by reading a little bit everyday or even watching free trainings within your field and then blogging about them. If you learn one new thing everyday consistently you will quickly become an expert in your field.
Great tools for establishing your expertise: Write an ebook or Kindle edition book on Amazon (put together a bunch of your articles), create a video series or bootcamp on your topic, give a talk somewhere about your topic. The point is to have credibility boosters and creating your own content is the best way to do this.
A great credibility booster AND traffic driver is having your blog rank on Google.
5. How to Rank on Google FAST!
Always keyword target every blog post (if you hadn’t noticed this post targets the keyword: how to blog for money). Do some SEO keyword research to choose relevant keywords. Make your blog as socially connected as possible so your blog posts get posted to Facebook, Twitter, etc. Host your blog on a high-traffic domain that Google already likes (for example, I’ve hosted this blog on Empower Network which is in the top 10,000 sites online!!) Create some backlinks to your blog.
Just don’t forget, you’ll never learn how to blog for money if you don’t start!! A lot of people waste time in trying to decide what to blog about, how to start their blog, etc. Just pick a topic, start a blog, and learn then write, learn then write every single day! Before you know it you’ll have a high traffic money making blog!!
